Is Holtz magic?

October 5, 2007

OK. Let’s take a break from MSU sports for a second.

Whether you like Lou Holtz or not, you’ll like this TRICK of his with the newspaper in his pep talk on the Florida-LSU game. Amazing.

Answers to the blogbag

October 5, 2007

the conquistador (my opinion on play calling against USC): For the most part, I had no problem with the game plan. They were having success on the ground, but 10-straight rushes was a little too much. And it’s not like the passing game is a strength. But, I do realize they are going to have to mix it up more to have better success. As for the WCO, Sylvester Croom isn’t changing schemes.

butchbailey (is harrington still around and what about Pegues taking snaps): By now, I’m sure you know quarterback Zack Harrington is back on the team. And no, Pegues isn’t going to take snaps. None, whatsoever.

imabulldog (any plans to honor Keffer McGee): I asked that questions to the powers to be at MSU and it’s something they’ve been pondering. The problem is how to properly recognize the 10th anniversary of someone’s death.

bully4prez (who all are taking snaps at QB): Wesley Carroll, Michael Henig, Zack Harrington and Chris Relf. Sylvester Croom told me on Thursday that Henig will definitely play and that he hopes not to waste a redshirt on Relf.

bdog13 (do players feel there’s improvement): Yes. They talk about it all the time. Still, they know they have to start winning, and they’re confident the program is in the right direction.

2thdoc(predict win totals): I’d be surprised if there’s less than five. With a few breaks, six or seven is obtainable. At the same time, I can also see just one more win.

dadwithpride (how hard is it to change offenses in the middle of the season): Very. It won’t happen. Too much time has been invested. Of course, it would help greatly if the quarterbacks quit getting hurt.

farley662 (who called the play on Anthony Dixon’s fourth-and-1): Woody McCorvey called the play, but Dixon went outside rather than inside. The coaches are not very happy with him these days. Thus, Christian Ducre is starting against UAB.

imabulldog (is Relf bad): No. Just raw. He’s a true freshman that came from a basic offensive scheme in high school. It’s just going to take some time for him to grow into the offense.

thingreenline (is there a list of people who have applied for the AD job): There is no official list, but I’m trying to come up with one of my own. Several people have told me they didn’t want their names listed just yet.

Farley662 (is MSU recruiting Tylson Lee): They are looking at him, but I think the knock on him is that he’s not an SEC player. I’m told he’s not accurate with the long ball at all, which is certainly a hindrance.

2thdoc (the Putt Putt site): It’s a dangerous site. I’ve never heard of a perfect score, but I know of a 19 accomplished by someone here at the Journal. I won’t reveal his name. My top score is 23.

Again, guys, great questions. I’m really liking this part of the blog.

Did you notice the new header?

October 5, 2007

It’s compliments of “themaroonandwhite”. He’s a loyal reader and poster of this blog and asked if he could spruce up the site.

Well, he went above and beyond the call. Awesome job!!! Thanks again. Superb job!!!

Now, accept my apology for not answering the blogbag on Thursday. The day got really busy, and then when I got back from Starkville, I had to watch the Yankees. Of course, that ruined my day. And making matters worse is that MSU’s media relations directior, Mike Nemeth, is a huge Cleveland Indians fan. And of course, I talked trash the other day at practice. I haven’t heard from him since the game ended, which makes me really, really nervous.

As for the blogbag, I’ll have answers around noon. Thanks for your patience. And before I forget, we reached another milestone on this blog – 20,000 hits.

Oh, and in case you missed my story on Brandon Thornton, here it is: Back at Starkville, in green and gold.
