Prior to today’s practice, it was team picture day at Scott Field. The players were joking around and feeling good about the win. Bowl talk was also the theme.
“I’ve been on the internet, seeing how the other teams are doing and comparing records,” running back Anthony Dixon said. “Knowing we are a win away from being bowl eligible, that’s extra motivation.” (on Friday, I’ll have a story on Dixon and why he thinks he’s been fumbling a lot).
Also, when Dixon walked up to Sylvester Croom to have his pic taken, Croom intentionally dropped the football. Laughter ensued.
Then it was on to practice. Spirited. Lively. And short. Not even two hours. However, Croom felt the team was feeling a little too good and he was worried about the focus. So, he ran them pretty good at the end to get their attention.
He also said he’ll run them to death on Wednesday.
Wearing red cross jerseys were offensive linemen Johnny Carpenter (ankley) and Michael Gates (cellulitis). What is cellulitis, you ask? According to our good friend, and trainor, Paul Mock, it’s an inflammation of the connective tissue underlying the skin, caused by a bacterial infection. Sounds nasty, if you ask me.
As for the rest of the week, MSU will practice on Wednesday, have an abbreviated session on Thursday and then have a fun run Friday morning before releasing the team for the weekend.

That’s awesome…a well deserved rest to enjoy a light week. I was a little surprised about Croom mentioning that he is not getting into the Alabama plan until next week with the players. I know this week off is important for the coaches on recruiting trips but is it more important to stick with game week routine than more scouting of next opponent? Just curious.

Good one by Croom - dropping ball - shows nothing personel - spirits are high.

OPEN WEEK - After watching today’s newcast, I got a feeling Croom and staff is going to work in some extra plays this week, and some new looks on defense maybe.
Everyone see the new T-shirts - MSU….UK game?

I’m sure our trainors/team doc are aware of the staph occurences in several football teams around the southeast…. probably unrelated, but, just thought I’d mention it.

Where did you see the shirt at skydawg? Wanna check it out!

Is Mike Henig practicing? Just wondering on how his recovery is coming along…
October 30, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Glad the spirits are high, good way to go into some R & R with a win at UK. They’ll be ready for Bama. Go Dawgs!

farley662, I saw the t-shirt to day from my bulldog update e-mail.

nashdawg, yes, Henig is practicing. He’s still recovering and Croom said after practice it’s amazing he’s able to take snaps.

Guys, I know this is completely off subject, but I consider you guys friends. I found out today that the wife is pregnant! This will be our first child! I’ve already scoped out the campusbookmart.com and the Lodge’s websites for baby jersey’s and cheerleader outfits! I’m stoked!

Farley, Congrats…make sure it’s yours then celebrate. Just kidding…congratulations!

Funny stuff! Thanks man!

Farley662, congrats. We’ll call you a stud now. Children are a great blessing and your life will change dramatically - all for the good! Keep us informed. Oh, and be very patient with your wife. Very. Those hormones shift like fire in a wind, my friend.

farley, congrats on the upcoming addition to the family.
Also, the MSU - UK t-shirts are pretty silly. Someone had a link on Gene’s Page yesterday.

Do we really need a T-shirt printed whenever we win a game?
October 31, 2007 at 8:48 am
Farley662,
Listen to Gregg about the hormone shifts!!!! My wife is about 6 1/2 months pregnant with our first child and I can vouch for the hormones and the late night food runs. Here is a phrase that you may want to learn…
“Is there anything I can do for you?”
Also, I would recomend the movie Knocked Up. Very funny and realistic.

I agree about the T-shirts. That’s something the Vanderbilt of 10 years ago would do. If we want to have a winning mentality, quit celebrating a win with a shirt! Remember the 24-hour rule.
Also, I was glad to see Croom isn’t letting the team get too relaxed. If I were Dixon, I’d quit spending time on internet comparing teams and work on fixing the fumble problem instead. It’s good to be pumped up about the team, but we gotta stay focused!

If AD was holding a football while surfing the ‘net, maybe he will be OK.
I wonder if coaches still force their fumble-prone players to carry a football during the week? I used to hear of that from time to time.

Congrats Farley662! Can you guys imagine the competition at QB next year when Riddell comes back. WOW! I love the job Carroll is doing! Wes has been great for us. Go Dawgs!

There was a Bama fan at my work place today-with his hat on, and he asked “Yall only need one more when to go bowlin’ right?” And I just smiled at him :). I think he got where I was goin’ with that
October 31, 2007 at 12:47 pm
Thanks for the well wishes guys! I really appreciate it!
We should all meet up before the Ole Miss game. Would love to be able to put some faces with the names! Go Dawgs!

FARLEY662 - Congrats on the good news.
I will be come a grandfather January 2008 - first grandchild - I got to see the sonogram (now available in 3D - totally unbelieveable picture) —- a little girl.
Soooo exicted!! My hope is to be able to let her crawl on the football field—grass stains on knees of her pants (white) - put pants up as a keep sake.

JAYBIRD -
I remember in my highschool days - if we fumbled coach made you carry the ball a whole week - if someone knocked it out of your hands and they got the ball or another student —- gave it to him they got extra points in his class (coach was history teacher also).
man you better not come to pratice with out the ball.

I tell you it first, Dixon is going to have a ESPN highlight game. Coach Croom coached greats like Barry Sanders at Detroit, and I believe Croom is riding Dixon extra hard this week. Dixon is going to explode on Alabama, I gurantee it.

I think if AD would listen to CC he would make him a better player - got to pay attention to details in order for other things to work.
