Croom talks about Alabama

November 6, 2007

Here’s a few excerpts from Sylvester Croom at today’s press conference in the Bryan Building . . .

“This is a big game this week. I think the significance is that it’s Alabama, that’s enough. It’s also a chance for us to move into bowl eligibility, a place we haven’t been in a long time. It’s a great challenge for us, there’s no question about that. I think Alabama is playing very good football right now. They are performing at a very high level. Watching their game against LSU, it was probably a game they should have won had that fumble not occurred late in the contest. The one thing that has really impressed me about Alabama is the number of close games they’ve been able to win this year.”

“It’s definitely going to be a 60-minute ballgame. We are going to have to be at our best throughout it. I think this is the first time since we’ve been here that we are actually playing for something this late in the season. It’s a chance for a bowl game and to really have an outstanding season if we can close it out strong.”

On Alabama’s offensive weapons at wide receiver. . .
”They are excellent. They’re probably the best corps of receivers we have played against this year. All of them can beat you on a single play, and that’s the thing that concerns you most about their passing game. They can score many different ways, they can take the short passes and run it in from there, but they are also fast enough and disciplined enough in their routes to get by you. We have really got to do a great job of keeping the ball in front of us. Our secondary has to do a great job of that. If they complete a pass, we have to tackle them to make sure they have to snap the football again.”

And thanks to my good friend Josh Cooper of the Decatur Daily News in Alabama, here is what some of the Crimson Tide players have to say about MSU . . .

Rashad Johnson. . .
“Maybe guys didn’t look at Mississippi State as a team that actually could beat us last year. They looked at it as a challenge to beat us. They have a great team. They’ve beaten good teams this year. They beat Auburn and a couple of other good teams this year. We need to go out and play well. We can’t take this game lightly. It’s not just a win we can mark on our schedule anymore.”

Darren Mustin on getting over the LSU loss . . .
“retty tough. But you’ve got to put it behind you. You can’t get a hangover from this and let it carry into this week. We’ve got to get our stuff together and win. We’ve got to win these next three games. It starts with Mississippi State.”

OK. Pick that score

November 6, 2007

On Saturday, it’s Alabama and Mississippi State at Scott Field. What’s your score and name a key player that will make an impact.
