It’s official. It’s over. There’s no turning back
Just wrapped up my Heisman voting. And once I hit submit, that was it. No changing of the mind.
1. Darren McFadden
2. Tim Tebow
3. Patrick White
If you guys were voting rather than me, who would have been your picks?
November 25, 2007 at 8:57 am
1. Tebow
2. McFadden
3. Chase Daniels
Tebow’s numbers are just freakish. No one has ever put up numbers like that. I can’t imagine a way he doesn’t deserve this (unless you think McFadden should win for multiple years of production)
November 25, 2007 at 9:00 am
I just think McFadden is the best player in the country.
November 25, 2007 at 9:28 am
RunDMC might be the best player in the country, but he wasn’t the best player in the country this year! Shame on you for not voting Tebow! Shame Gregg Ellis!
November 25, 2007 at 9:39 am
Hey, farley, I voted for him. Just not No. 1.
November 25, 2007 at 9:46 am
But, how can you justify not voting him No. 1? His numbers are unbelievable compared to McFadden. You take away Tebow from the Gators, they lose at least 4 more games! He was the best player from start to finish and is not getting the respect because he is a Sophomore. This year seems like the Woodson-Manning year to me!
November 25, 2007 at 9:58 am
Take away McFadden, and they don’t win four games. Opposing defenses feared McFadden, enough that defenses were designed to stop him. Look at MSU. They put so much emphasis on McFadden, they forgot about Casey Dick. I could have just as easily voted for Tebow first. But, at the end, it was McFadden.
November 25, 2007 at 10:21 am
I would vote Tebow, McFadden, White. Tebow has so many ways to beat you and is really just starting. Next year barring injuries Tebow will own the SEC and is the reason Florida will be preseason #1. Wouldn’t want to be in the SEC East with Florida and Georgia next year.
November 25, 2007 at 10:32 am
Gregg, I agree with your vote. For me the heisman is about being the best all around player and that is Mcfadden in my book also. Tebow had a LOT of 1 - 3 yrd touchdown runs and that contributed to his numbers drastically.
November 25, 2007 at 11:40 am
I think Tebow vs. McFadden is a push. Therefore, if either one wins it I will be happy.
Tebow will win it next year, though.
November 25, 2007 at 12:42 pm
I don’t even think it should be a close call between T and D, with Tebow taking first. DMC had a bunch of good games, but he wasn’t consistent in every game. Tebow showed up and delivered more than what was expected in every single game this season. Tebow should be first without a doubt.
November 25, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Gregg, the Heisman goes to the most outstanding player in college football, not the most talented. Sure McFadden is a great player, but he was just to inconsistent this season and his team lost 4 games! Tebow has been great in every game this season and he is shattering records. I don’t see how you can’t give it to Tebow. I think you let McFadden’s game against LSU get to your head instead of looking at both of their bodies of work over the entire season.
November 25, 2007 at 1:15 pm
1. Tebow
2. Tebow
3. Tebow
How can you not choose Tebow? Did you watch the game last night? Mcfadden is good, real good. But HE IS NO TEBOW!
November 25, 2007 at 1:19 pm
1.Mc Fad
2.Mc Fad
3.Mc Fad
November 25, 2007 at 1:24 pm
1. Tim Tebow
2. McFadden (multiple talented for sure)
With Tebow being a sophomore - will that be a facotr, true or not.
November 25, 2007 at 1:28 pm
It shouldn’t be a factor at all. Good players are good players, no matter what year they are in.
November 25, 2007 at 1:28 pm
Tebow
White
McFadden
Tebow had 22 rushing TD’s this year, more than any previous Heisman trophy winners, closest was 19. Then throw in passing TD’s, passing and rushing yds and he is the best all around.
White is second because team couldn’t win without him.
McFadden is good but not as effectively multi-dimensional.
November 25, 2007 at 1:37 pm
Now you all see why there is more than one voter. We all have different opinions. I don’t disagree that Tebow is a great player. He is. But if I were starting a team, I’d look for McFadden first. And no, my decision wasn’t just based on what he did against LSU. I’m not that shallow, now.
November 25, 2007 at 1:38 pm
no question…no doubt. mcfadden.
November 25, 2007 at 1:56 pm
If you were starting a team you’d go with McFadden first? Really?
I bet if you asked any head coach in America who THEY’d rather have the answer would be Tebow. But, McFadden will likely get it, precisely because Tebow is the obvious choice, and folks do not like picking the obvious choice because they think it makes them look wise or cool or something like that.
Running backs like McFadden are easier to come by than quarterbacks like Tebow. Give me Tebow first, then, if McFadden is still available, give me McFadden.
Saying you’d choose McFadden over Tebow to build your program is like saying you’d choose Hershel Walker over Brett Farve.
November 25, 2007 at 2:43 pm
I’d pick the QB from Hawaii, just so someone from a smaller school would get some major recognition. His team, afterall, is still underfeated.
But it’ll probably go to whoever ESPN mentions the most. Again.
Maybe Tebow should get it this year, b/c I don’t see how a QB can keep taking a pounding like he does and not eventually get injured.
November 25, 2007 at 3:03 pm
1. Colt Brennon- Hawaii- Mr. Touchdown
2. Tim Tebow- Flordia- Soph, Win it Next Year if he does not get hurt
3. Darren McFadden- Arkansas- Not enough wins, but is the best athelete I ever seen
4. Pat White- West Virginia- Score from anywhere
Tebow will win it by popularity, you can’t agrue that it is great.
November 25, 2007 at 3:35 pm
1. Chase Daniel
2. Glen Dorsey
3. Tim Tebow
4. Darren McFadden
5. Jake Long
To me, you need to be consistent game in and game out to take the Heisman. Chase Daniel was that type of player. Every game over 200 yards passing and led Missouri to a possible NC game which no one expected. Dorsey number 2 because eventhough he doesn’t get the press, the guy has been playing injured and still has created problems for offensive lines. Tebow number 3 just because of his freakish stats. McFadden number 4 because of his inconsistency this season. Sure, he carried them to some huge wins, but he also had some let downs. Finally I put Jake Long number 5 because he’s the best offensive lineman in the country and eventhough he isn’t that widely talked about, the guy is unbelievable.
November 25, 2007 at 4:24 pm
All this crap woulda been settled if they woulda given it to McFad last year, he deserved it more than Troy-whats his name-oh yeah the guy with a standout performance in the Nat’l Championship, performed like a Hesiman huhh? Tebow could win it the next 3 years in a row, give to McFadden please. Guys got so much heart, and this is someone pleading-who hates arky
November 25, 2007 at 4:47 pm
roastbeef1, that’s hillarious, chase daniel and glenn dorsey are the first two, i needed a good laugh
November 25, 2007 at 4:50 pm
I like Dixon from Oregon too. I know he will miss the last few games, but look how that team has fallen apart without him. It is obvious that he means as much to his team as anybody in the country. I believe you could take McFadden away from Ark and Dixon away from Oregon and Ark would destroy Oregon. Dixon just means more to his team that McFadden does. However, I would not be upset if McFadden, Tebow, or Brennan get the nod. A great arguement can be made for any of them.
November 25, 2007 at 5:23 pm
Gregg,
How soon will we find out about our bowl?
November 25, 2007 at 5:27 pm
Did anyone catch the O show? What the heck was that lame rap?
November 25, 2007 at 6:41 pm
imabulldog, probably not until Sunday
November 25, 2007 at 7:45 pm
alright, thanks, im sure you’ll know that before i do
November 25, 2007 at 7:54 pm
If you had to guess Gregg, where do you say we are heading? I’m sure you might have heard something or have a hunch!
November 25, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Nashville for the Music City Bowl.
November 25, 2007 at 8:22 pm
So, if I go ahead and buy tickets, you gonna help me scalp em if we go to Memphis?
November 25, 2007 at 8:35 pm
I sure hope you’re right, Gregg. I’d much rather go to Nashville and visit a real town than go to Shreveport. What exactly is that place known for besides casinos? And crappy ones at that!
November 25, 2007 at 8:37 pm
BTW, I hope the basketball team can hurry up and make it’s improvements and develop more team chemistry. We’re getting beat by Miami (OH)!
November 25, 2007 at 9:20 pm

Some of you may have already seen this collection of videos but in case you haven’t.

November 25, 2007 at 9:59 pm
BTW- Our basketbball team SUX! what is there problem, we have too much talent to play the we way we have.
November 25, 2007 at 10:04 pm
I don’t how many of you are watching the basketball game but Stansbury got outcoached as usual. He can recruit but is not a game coach. He needs to sit Gordon and Rhodes both on the bench. Gordon because he is playing out of control again as he did as a freshman plus he is too selfish with the ball and Rhodes because he only wants to play offense.
We’re only 3 and 3 and not even close to SEC games yet. AK of the Rebs has half as much talent and winning. I have said it for the last 5 years, Stansbury needs a good assistant “game” coach. He is a great recruiter and his top two assistants are great recruiters but talent can only take you so far. You have to coach. The Miami Ohio team was so better coached and disciplined it was embarassing.
November 25, 2007 at 11:08 pm
Two of our players were probably too worried about the NBA scouts that were in the stands. I’ll let you guess which two.
November 26, 2007 at 1:08 am
I know one thing, you could run a pick and roll all day on our guys-with a Jr high squad. If I see Ben get burnt to the hole again, or some lazy white dude sky hook on Rhodes, Im gonna be sick. Way too much talent to play like that!
I’ll be pulling for them, but they have not shown me anything positive yet
November 26, 2007 at 5:17 am
Hey Gregg, I know this off the subject, but did you happen to catch the MSU vs Miami of OH basketball game on Sunday night. I have to be honest when I say that their performance was terrible. To lose to a mid major club that lets face it, will barely make it to the tournament if at all is very disappointing. I’ve been keeping up with what has been said about State on espn.com and they have the Dawgs projected to make a run in the tournament. Right now, unless some major changes are made, I think the Dawgs will finish near the bottom of the SEC west. I understand the team is young and somewhat inexperienced but come on, everyone should be expecting a whole lot more out of this team or is it just me? What do you think?
November 26, 2007 at 7:19 am
Yes, the basketball game was terrible. It seemed like every single shot State took was contested and they were getting open looks all night. They are also terribly undisciplined. I lost track of how many turnovers and fouls they committed. Our offensive strategy seems to be “get the ball to Gordon and Rhodes and everyone else just sit there and watch”. As for our defense, Varnado is the only one who seems to give a consistent effort. This team still has a LONG way to go if they even want to THINK of making the NCAA tourney.
November 26, 2007 at 7:45 am
Now, farley, don’t hold me responsible if MSU doesn’t go to the Music City. And yes, dogcollar, I watched the game. It’s funny, usually this time of year that’s all anyone on here wants to talk about. But with the success of the football, basketball has taken a backseat. I was a little surprised how poorly they played in the first half. But when they got the lead back in the second, I thought that was it. But it looked to me as if they just folded in the final three minutes.
November 26, 2007 at 9:50 am
If I had a vote
1) Darren Mcfadden
2) Darren Mcfadden
3) Darren Mcfadden
really the vote should not even be close ,
November 26, 2007 at 9:54 am
Oh, but msutim, it will. Just look at the varying opinions on this blog.
November 26, 2007 at 10:00 am
The last three minutes of the game were terrible. Of course, I turned it off when Barry Stewart made that lazy pass that was intercepted and tkaen down for an easy lay-up, plus one since Hansbrough committed a stupid foul. I turned it off right then, and watched the final minutes of the Egg Bowl replay.
Miami of Ohio is a solid team, but MSU should have taken care of business.
November 26, 2007 at 4:40 pm
1)Tebow
No need to go any further
November 28, 2007 at 11:48 am
warbirdz, you are right. State is going to need more than Rhodes and Gordon to get through the SEC. Also, what about the so called off the charts freshman recruits they are supposed to have. I didn’t see any of them play not one minute, except for Bennock or whoever he is. He didn’t show me anything either.
