SEC awards announced

By Brad Locke

Well, sorta.

Team awards, which are voted on by the coaches, were released today. On Wednesday, the individual awards, such as the coach and players of the year, will be announced.

Mississippi State didn’t have a player on the All-SEC first team, but offensive lineman Michael Brown, defensive end Titus Brown, linebacker Jamar Chaney and defensive back Derek Pegues all made second-team.

And remember, coaches can’t vote for their own players.

On Thursday, the All-SEC freshman team will be announced.

I would have to say I am disappointed that we didnt have anyone on the first team but I am guessing these guys arent that worried about that right now. Its easy to look past that when you are preparing for a bowl game. I also think we will be getting more recognition tomorrow and thursday with the other awards being handed out. Just going to go out on a limb here and say Carroll gets freshman of the year and Croom Coach of the Year. But that is just wishful thinking on my part.

  2. warbirdz44 Says:

Knowshawn Moreno from Georgia probably gets freshman of the year. Croom will get COY though.

  3. Gregg Ellis Says:

I see Carroll making the All-Freshman team, but not freshman of the year. I mean, his numbers don’t blow you away.

I think Sly will be COY, but I know Mark Richt will be getting some votes, too.

    My Picks
    CC- Coach of the Year
    Off. Player-Jacob Hester LSU
    Def. Player-Glen Dorsey, Titus Brown
    Freshman- Moreno/Carroll

    Propable Picks
    CC-Fulmer (Gross)
Off. Player-Tebow (just threw up in my mouth a little)
    Def. Dorsey
    Freshman-Moreno

I agree with bdog13, how do you finish in the middle of the best conference in the country and not have one first teamer-No love

  5. imabulldog Says:

I put the probable picks down so I can prepare myself for the worst, people I hate always win the awards-not my favorites, though I like Dorsey

  6. nashdawg Says:

Titus Brown is an All-SEC first team player! The problem is…he put a hurt on all the guys he lined up against and they’re just not forthright in their voting.

  7. warbirdz44 Says:

imabulldog, why did you throw up in your mouth with tebow? he is easily the best offensive player in the sec. nothing wrong with him getting it. (i will admit that i am likely going to the university of florida next season)

and don’t worry, croom will get it over fulmer.

  8. Gregg Ellis Says:

now, imabulldog, you got all over me for not voting Tebow first on my Heisman ballot and you didn’t even mention him as SEC player of the year. LOL!

  9. imabulldog Says:

Wasnt me Gregg, I wanted McFad, McFad, McFad-i promise, it wasnt me. I actually listed him as my whole top 3, go back and check so i can get off the hook :) .

As for warbirdz44, Tebow is a great player and an unbelievable talent. I just get a little annoyed everytime he scores and starts flinging his arms in the air-as if to get people to stand up. He is phenomenal, but I feel that Urban Meyer runs a 6th grade sissy Offense. I mean I could run for 70 a game, if they just snap it to me every play. And I know he makes great throws, but thats what a QB is supposed to do. He is great, and a great Christian guy, I just get tired of him, and I guess most of my opinion goes back to my anger that McFad did not get it last yr, not to mention the fact that they could give it to McFad, because Tebow could win it for the rest of his college years

  10. imabulldog Says:

He is definitely the most deserving, I just really like McFad and the heart he plays with. I feel that McFad has to work harder, because Tebow has tons of talent all around him as compared to Arky

  11. Gregg Ellis Says:

Sixth grade sissy offense. imabulldog, you win comment of the day for that one. Good stuff.

  12. imabulldog Says:

I mean you snap it and run, or hand it off, short throws, and throw deep once or twice and it works occasionally.
If you can’t line up under center 70% of the time, no respect-6th gradish and sissy.

  13. imabulldog Says:

And i believe that Colt will have a bright future in the NFL, because where do you play a Tebow-unbelievable talent, but where do you play him. I think he’ll end up on special teams, making tackles and faking a punt or two

  14. warbirdz44 Says:

imabulldog, if it’s a sissy offense, be my guest to run the football 20 times a game against a defense full of sec athletes. :)

you’re a bigger man than me if you do!

  15. farley662 Says:

I got on ya Gregg! Still believe Tebow is the guy and DMac will win because he was snubbed last year. His stats don’t compare to the kid from UCF. He will win for the sympathy vote. Not deserving this year!

  16. imabulldog Says:

warbirdz, what i am saying is how tough is it to run as QB occasionally, while faking handoffs to the likes of Harvin, Moore, and James. And how easy is it to throw to this many good recievers-Harvin, Caldwell, Hernandez, Murphy, Ingram, and Cooper.
All im saying is McFad has carried his team with only one helper-Jones thats it.
Lets drop it, this all opinions anyway- but i have to know are you a Dawg or a Gator? Just wondering, not questioning your fanhood

  17. imabulldog Says:

And it is a sissy, 6th grade offense :)

  18. farley662 Says:

If we had him, I’d run the heck outta that sissy 6th grade offense!

  19. imabulldog Says:

I agree, the guy is great

  20. warbirdz44 Says:

I’m a Bulldog fan but I will likely be attending Florida. I’m still gonna cheer for the Dawgs (It’s gonna be tough when they play UF, I’ll have some decisions to make.) And I might not even attend UF. So far, the only place I’ve heard back from is Tulane. (Got accepted.) And since we don’t play them in FB anymore, I won’t have anything to worry about!

  21. imabulldog Says:

Glad you are a Dawg man, btw- congrats on Tulane-thats a tough school to get in to, and good luck on the UF thing, hope you get in

  22. maroondog Says:

Guys, I know Tebow runs alot, but show him some love. I watched him a few times this year and he can make every throw. Do not let QB’s like Vick cloud your judgement. Just because Tebow can run well, does not mean he can’t throw. He will be a QB in the NFL and we will be a firstrounder (if he does not get demolished running into SEC defenses first) I know people grip about his offense, but if he was on our team, we would love to run that “6th grade sissy offense”
