Could South Panola’s Darius “Tig” Barksdale be a Bulldog? Possibly.
The standout running back, who many are projecting to be a safety, just told the Daily Journal he likes everything about Mississippi State, but that he’s “still a verbal commitment” to Ole Miss.
“I just like them both,” he said.
He also noted there is no timetable on making a definitive decision. And remember, Biggersville’s Montario Patterson is the only running back committed to MSU.
Barksdale is scheduled to take his ACT in February.
It’s going to be an interesting couple of weeks until signing day on Feb. 6.

wow, I thought he was solid with OM. That would be a great steal.

I’ll tutor him. I can read pretty well, not so good in writing though. Maybe the Nutt case changed his mind.

I’m not sure about this. He is a great player but he is just so stupid, as proved in the 5A championship game. I guess if anyone can straighten him out, though, it’s Croom.

I’m not going to base my scouting report on one decision me made out of 75 games. He’s the best player in Mississippi.
If you all are worried about bright kids, lemme just say the rosters at MSU and Ole Miss aren’t filled with Rhodes scholars.

It’s not just that one play Gregg, I have a friend who is a senior at South Panola and she said that of all the football players she has met, he is by far the dumbest. She said that the incident in the 5A championship wasn’t the first time he has done something stupid on the field. He is a great talent but he just seems like the kind of player who will make mental mistakes that cost you games.

Warbirdz, have you seen Anthony Dixon play?

So because one guy is a dumb player, that means we should get more?

In other news, we are 39th in the coaches poll, garnering 4 votes.

Not at all what I’m saying. But just because a player isn’t the smartest in the world doesn’t mean you should back off in recruiting said player. I’ve seen countless players “get it” when they get to college.
He may have made some bad decisions in games, but he made many more positive ones. He’s the type of player you can build around.

Gregg, so does that mean that he has or will be visiting MSU and Coach Croom?
January 21, 2008 at 1:38 pm |
Gregg, you sure are sturring things up with this blog.
You have every rebel biting their fingernails.

Shades of Robert Elliot! I love it! Hope Croom can make it two for two.

Winners want to play for winners, which is what Coach Croom is. Ole Miss has to start winning to get the high profile studs. Barksdale will be a great player at the next level. I think he will excell more playing under Croom.
Just my opinion!!

southavendawg, that’s the big question right there. Obviously, I can’t say if MSU contacted him or not. I do know he wasn’t on campus this past weekend.
January 21, 2008 at 2:11 pm |
Now don’t get me wrong, i would like to have him, I’m just a little weary. But I think if anyone can straighten him out it’s Croom.

I have heard stories of Barksdale having disciplinary issues off the field. Does anyone know anything about this? Seeing as how we are just now shaking off the “thug” image, do we want to take a chance on someone like this???
These could be just a rumor but was just wondering if anyone else had heard that.
January 21, 2008 at 5:43 pm |
Someone linked this on dawgsbite and implied you are trying to stir up the rumor mill Gregg. Was it one of you guys?

One thing about it, If he does come to State and he “can’t get right” then Croom won’t mind cutting him loose a la Nick Turner. I think Croom could change his entire life around.
