Although Auburn plays just six players, two of which logged 40 minutes against Kentucky on Wednesday in a 66-63 loss, MSU coach Rick Stansbury says it’s the Tigers that have the advantage.
Why?
“They run with five guards,” he said. “We’re going to run with two bigs. They’ve been playing that way all season. They are used to that routine.”
Still, Rick, their players are going to get tired. Just look at their games, where many have been lost in the closing minutes. Hum. . . Can you say, tired legs. I say, run ‘em ragged. I’d take my chances, that’s for sure.
Also, he continues to be impressed by true freshman Elgin Bailey, who is playing more and more with each passing game. Against the Tide on Wednesday, he totaled 4 points and 2 rebounds in eight minutes. And more importantly, he was 2 of 2 at the foul line. Not bad for a 37 percent shooter.
“The thing I’ve seen from Elgin from day one has been concistency,” Stansbury said. “He brings mental toughness and physcical toughness everyday. Early in the year, lack of experience kept him from getting any type of action. It wasn’t his work ethic or lack of toughness. Now that he’s gotten some playing time, he’s getting some confidence.”
