Interesting reads . . . and prediction time
Thanks to those of you who sent emails this morning, and quite early I might add, containing some interesting stories.
The first story involves the MSU AD search that digs deep in Florida, while the second ranks the SEC’s basketball arenas.
Oh, I almost forgot, our weekly SEC Notebook.
Also, the Bulldogs hit the road on Saturday, when they travel to Auburn? Must win? Probably not. But it’s definitely one State should get on the road and one that could go a long way in MSU controlling the West.
What’s your score?

It’s a shame the Hump is #7 on this list. Over the past 12 years, Miss State has the third most successful basketball program in the SEC (behind Kentucky, Florida) and probably could make an argument for second place with Kentucky.
Alabama and Arkansas would be next. They have not been as consistant as Miss State.
Stans deserves better for his program.

Auburn will RUN with their small line up. They will run out of energy and State will win another road game. State 72 AUcan’tfillagym 60

thanks for the props, boonevegas.
MSU 74
AU 68
I am worried that their small line-up will force our bigs out to the perimiter, thus creating more back-door cuts for wide open lay-ups.
The players do not need to be looking ahead. With next wednesday off, surely they are 100% focused on AU.

jaybirds, your bigs are athletic and can d-up on just about anyone.
February 8, 2008 at 7:58 am
Auburn presents problems. 5-guard line-up can shoot from outside and their defense is quick!
Auburn had 16 steals against Kentucky and avg. 8.7 steals per game… second in SEC. Kentucky only attempted 39 shots against Auburn. The 16 steals helped total 24 turnovers for Kentucky. Dawg guards must focus and be dliberate.
Auburn is not very deep. Only played 6 players against Kentucky.

sly it’s just this guys opinion. Noah from Florida said it’s the loudest gym he’s played in. And I definatly disagree with Alabama being ahead of us. The state fans were almost as loud as the bama fans in T-town this year.

I agree bigdraws… could probably move Arkansas down the list too since the info is outdated from Nolan Richardson days. Bothers me that Tenn is above us on the list too. Tenn fans are just figuring out they have a men’s basketball team!
February 8, 2008 at 8:37 am
I’ve heard Florida wasn’t all that.

Slydawg, UT does have a sweeeet facility for basketball and 20,000 are going to be loud. Ark still has the big crowd every game but BAMA? That place is awful in my opinion.
As far Auburn I think they will be throwing up 3’s all day and it will depend on their shooting % as to how close. It will work to their advantage not going inside against Jarvis so if they are hot then State has to match them or get embarassed…maybe not
State 74

Whats funny it that UT’s is ranked as high as it is, I guess women’s basketball was considered in the conversation.
And I hope we can do a little better than FAU’s AD

I consider this a must win. This is a winnable game that we don’t need to lose. There are only 8 games left and we still have to travel to Ole Miss, Vandy and Florida.
MSU 74
Auburn 67
February 8, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Dawgs 82
Auby 71
Auby’s guard line-up can’t guard Swat and Rhodes, they get 10 a piece down low. If we don’t sweep Auburn it will be embarassing
February 8, 2008 at 12:04 pm
I disagree Gregg, this IS a must win. If we lose this, we can all but kiss our tourney chances goodbye.
February 8, 2008 at 12:05 pm
BTW, I think we will win. I’ll say 80-69
February 8, 2008 at 12:05 pm
MUST WIN!
February 8, 2008 at 12:43 pm
I think at this point they are all must wins. 10 losses doesn’t get us in I don’t think.

I would be happy with Brad Teague as our new AD. He did amazing things at Delta State and has a gift for fundraising. He is a former baseball player and all around good guy-except for that getting his doctorate at Ole Miss. Nobody’s perfect.
February 8, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Vandy by far has the weirdest arena in cbball, I went up there on night when we played them
February 8, 2008 at 3:59 pm
I like it, ima, because it’s different.
February 8, 2008 at 4:16 pm
We will spank Auburn.

Tom, you seem to be quite busy these days. Don’t let them overwork ya.

Ole Miss 75
Arkansas 80
February 8, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Yep, been busy lately, but I’ve been reading everyday. Thanks for all you do.
February 8, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Tom, I think Arkansas will spank Ole Miss. They beat both us and UF by 20 at Bud Walton. Don’t see why Old Piss will do any better!

Warbirdz,
I had one of my better days of picking scores. I wasn’t off by much on either pick.
my picks (actual)
MSU 80 (83)
Aub 65 (64)
Ole Miss 75 (69)
Arkansas 80 (75)
I figured Arkansas couldn’t put up back to back nights of torrid 3 point shooting. And Ole Miss was hungry for a win.
Hope we pull out a big win this Saturday. Wish I could get tickets and go.
