Are changes coming in football?
The college football rules committee has proposed a few new rule changes for 2008.
I’m OK with every change except the face mask. I like the options of the 5- and 15-yard assessments. Doing away with the 5-yarder is bothersome, if you ask me.

I’d agree with you on that one Gregg. Sometimes it really is an accident.

Now players will just hang on because it’s 15 no matter what.

He does. It’s very entertaining reading.

Gregg, the link was dead for me, so I didn’t get to read the changes. Is an “incidental facemask” no longer a penalty, or is it that the “incidental fasemask” is now also a 15 yarder?

Hit refresh and try again Tom. But yeah, it’s just facemask. No distinction.

Thats not how I read it. From the different articles I’ve read on the matter, it seems that accidental facemasks are simply no longer a penalty. If you grab and let go (aka, the facemask does not assist in making the tackle) then its no longer a penalty. If the head turns, though, its 15 yards.

In that case, it’s not that bad of a rule change then.

That’s what I was wondering. Thanks quark20. That’s a good change.

I hate the horse collar rule. Takes away from the NFL game I think. I agree with enhancing the chop block rule. Auburn guy could have ruined Glenn Dorsey’s career.

My main complaint with the face mask rule, is that it is just as dangerous when an offensive runner grabs the DB’s makes during a stiffarm, yet that is hardly ever called.

I’m agree with Gregg on the 5-yard penality….
Hoars collar rule live with or without it….like to see a guy being tackled….grabbing a player by colloar or pads (or jersey?) is like holding to me….like to player being tackled.
