Byrne says . . .

By Brad Locke

Just spent some time with Greg in his office, and as you can imagined, he’s very excited. He should be, because at 36, he just hit the jackpot in being named athletic director at an SEC school.

“We are absolutely thrilled at the opportunity Doc has given my family,” he said, while eating a Hardee’s thick burger, with his wife Regina laughing at him. “I’m also very grateful to Larry Templeton for giving me an opportunity two years ago to come to Mississippi State.
“I’m looking forward to working with the student-athletes, the university staff and coaches, and very importantly, our loyal fan base. We’re going to do everything we can to make people want to be a part of Mississippi State.”

I’ll have more tonight. Around 4 p.m., he’s going to meet with a few of us scribes and TV folk.

He’s alright with me! He’s eating a thick burger!

  2. bigdraws Says:

Sounds just like a Hardee’s commercial. Did he have mayonaise on the corner of his mouth while talking?

  3. jaybirdms Says:

What about the cheese paper? Did he eat that?

  4. farley662 Says:

This is hard hitting journalism at it’s best. What’s he having for dinner Gregg?

  5. Braves Dawg Says:

I think it speaks volumes of his talent to have the confidence to promote from within.

hey if he does not know what to do, he can call his pops at Texas a & m, i think everyone would agree that they have a pretty solid athletic department……

Glad to see Doc is giving LT a position… I think he does not get credit for some great things that have happened at MSU during his tenure.

I think this is a travesty, I worked at MSU with this guy and he is a weasel. To not give someone like Joe Dean Jr. a chance really hurts me as a MSU graduate and former coach. How do you hire a guy with no MSU relation or roots. All i have to say is it is a true travesty.

  9. Gregg Ellis Says:

Welcome to the blog, evilbeaver. That was a stong first post. Travesty? Wow!

  10. 2thdoc Says:

Can a beaver talk bad about a weasel?

  11. jaybirdms Says:

Only if he is a muppet.

  12. bigdraws Says:

I think it’s dawgbones in disguise.

  13. bigdraws Says:

Gregg, grab you a muppet, and see what’s going on at the van. It’s all about baseball over there today.

  14. dawgbones Says:

    Wrong again bigdraws

  15. bigdraws Says:

db, you’re welcome to come visit too. I think you’d probably enjoy it.

  16. boonevillereb Says:

bd, I cruised it, just not in the mood today, I’m working on a road trip next week. I do need to get out and improve my mood, not that anyone has noticed (LOL). I’m tired of the short daylight hours and the flu.

By the way Gregg, several members of the so called Delta Cartel have called and they are shocked and unhappy with the AD choice. I played your cards and told them to give him a shot. They feel like the money down in south MS won out again. Anway, they are going to go down and have their semi-annual get together with the AD, football, and basketball coaches. It will be good to hear their feedback after their meetings and hear what the coaches and staff say. A couple of staffers say they will not have a problem with him if they get a much deserved raise (Ha). They are in a wait and see mode.

The weather here ain’t much better. Poor gophers. Never thought we’d have a post with beaver, weasel, and gopher that wasn’t about something nasty.

  20. Braves Dawg Says:

Tell us how you really feel beav………

  21. rebelnate Says:

I hope beaver don’t get on the do-do list already

I emailed Greg last evening congratulating him on getting the nod for the AD position. It is a big time job! He thanked me for joining the Bulldog Club…it’s badly needed. He also agrees that traditions is what makes college sports so special. I was concerned because he is not one of our own,….but it will be this year that he receives his Master’s, here at State. He says that he bleeds Maroon and loves this place. Any one who spends some quality time on our campus can’t help but fall in love with the Bulldog spirit. I say, he’s in!

  23. imabulldog Says:

All i know is that Im ready for UT to absolutely kill Memphis tomorrow. All these band-wagon, no tradition, no concern at all for athletics fans. I go to Memphis, and I hate them! Nobody has ever cared about UM athletics til now.
Sorry but I had to vent. Ive been telling them all day UT is gonna beat them by 15, and how much CUSA sucks!

  24. jaybirdms Says:

So i assume you did not get an “I HATE ORANGE” T-shirt.

  25. bigdraws Says:

I wonder how much tix are going for up there.

  26. imabulldog Says:

I heard $600 in the lower levels. I wish I’d boughten my student ticket, and I coulda sold it. I’ve been there 2 years and have never even been to any sports up here. Nothing like our dawgs and our SEC boys

  27. bigdraws Says:

    Brandon Turners starting at 2nd.

  28. 2thdoc Says:

The end of AD Greg Byrne’s greeting letter:

We appreciate what you do for Mississippi State Athletics and want to encourage you to get others involved. There are three things you can do to help Mississippi State reach its desired goals –
    1. Buy Season Tickets
    2. Financially Support the Bulldog Club
    3. Get Others To Do The Same

Thanks for taking the time to read this Update. It is our goal to communicate with you on a more consistent basis.
    Go Dawgs!

I just think that we all should at least do our part and join the BC if not already. Buy the tickets and bring more people to the games. It’s not that much to ask of us. Come on Nate, Booneville, and Rebelgiant.
