And that’s a wrap

March 12, 2008

Business for the day at the Georgia Dome is done. Practices for the eight teams that play on Thursday have concluded, and there are no more press conferences to partake in.

Ole Miss’ Andy Kennedy closed the day by saying if the Rebels don’t get into the NCAA tournament, they have no one to blame but themselves, thanks to a mid-season swoon. He even went as far to say two weeks ago, his team couldn’t make any type of valid argument they belong in the big dance. But with a three-game winning streak, the outlook has changed.

As for Mississippi State, Rick Stansbury and Company didn’t participate in Wednesday’s festivities. Not that the Bulldogs didn’t show up; it’s just that the teams with byes aren’t invited to share their thoughts.

Anyways, care to make a few predictions:
• LSU vs. South Carolina
• Auburn vs. Vanderbilt
• Florida vs. Alabama
• Ole Miss vs. Georgia

Bama brings the clothes

March 12, 2008

OK. At 16-15, Alabama’s not exactly headed to the NCAA tournament. Especially not with a 5-11 league mark.

But just in case the Tide is to get on a roll, Mark Gottfried told his players to bring enough clothes to get through Sunday.

“We packed suitcases to be here through Sunday,” the Bama coach said. “I packed four suites and they packed a lot of underwear and socks.”

Let’s be honest, the only way Alabama is going to the big dance is to win this dance in Atlanta. Sorry, Tiders, I just don’t see that happening.

Foster’s gone cold

March 12, 2008

So I’m watching Vanderbilt practice. Well, actually, I’m talking with some other scribes during Vanderbilt’s practice.

Anyway, out of the corner of my eye, I see Shan Foster shooting 3s. Remember Foster? He’s the one that went super human on MSU a week ago today with nine 3-pointers in the game’s final 10 minutes, most from 25 feet and out.

Well, his arms must still be tired, because he couldn’t buy a basket during the shoot around. I thought about putting on a MSU jersey and going out on the floor to see if that would inspire him, but then thought otherwise. I didn’t want to make him look bad.

OK. Off to see Alabama practice.

It’s time for some SEC basketball.

I’m here. Downtown. Survived the traffic, even if barely. Anyway, I hope you are all doing well. Oh, I did note on a big sign coming that we’re 19 days from opening day.

As for today’s plans, press conferences start at noon, and I’ll have some updates on what the coaches are saying, or not saying. If you have a question, a legitimate one at that, you would like for me to ask, lemme know and I’ll do what I can. Serious questions pertaining to basketball, please.

In today’s newspaper, I have a story on the SEC awards that were handed out yesterday. As most cases, some surprised me, like co-coach of the year and co-freshmen of the year.

Did any of you feel like someone was left off the list? If so, who?
