Polk announces pitching rotation
With Justin Pigott out again due to a shoulder injury, MSU baseball coach Ron Polk will turn to Tyler Whitney on Friday in the series opener against Georgia.
On Saturday, Lee Swindle will get the call, while Ricky Bowen will close out the three-game set on Sunday. Polk also added reliever Aaron Weatherford (shoulder) and second baseman Brandon Turner (hamstring) will not play.
It’s Super Bulldog Weekend, too, which means MSU will wrap up football practice with the annual spring game at noon on Saturday.
March 27, 2008 at 9:21 am
State will bounce back this weekend against Georgia.
March 27, 2008 at 9:25 am
I got excited for a sec there GG, thought it said Polk announces retirement!
I for one appreciate everything he’s done for our school- he’s been incredible, and ever since he left for UGA I hoped he would stay there. I’m not a Polk fan, his name is on the building, and he can smoke all the cigars he wants- but I think our program especially in the last 4 years our program needs a new direction.
I loved Polk growing up, but now it seems the only thing we get to see out of him is the colorful arguments with umpires, and tactics and baseball strategy that are no longer effective.
He is becoming a joe pa figure that will have to die before we can get rid of him. Great coach, thanks for tradition, the champs, the world series, but its time my friend.
Now grill me or join me guys
March 27, 2008 at 9:30 am
I hate to admit it, but I couldn’t have said it better myself ima.
March 27, 2008 at 9:30 am
speaking of grilling, I may have to cook a steak tonight.
March 27, 2008 at 9:31 am
What time you cooking bird?
March 27, 2008 at 9:38 am
Probably about the time draws is on his 5th or 6th beer.
March 27, 2008 at 9:41 am
grilled two big fat ribeyes last night. With potatoes, pintos, and mustard greens.
March 27, 2008 at 9:43 am
Open some windows!!!!!
March 27, 2008 at 9:44 am
No windows in Draws office!
March 27, 2008 at 9:53 am
Strange, off-the-wall question . . .
Have any of you every poured a concrete patio. And if so, who did you go to for help.
March 27, 2008 at 9:53 am
Mustard greens? What the hell is wrong with you?
March 27, 2008 at 9:53 am
No windows? That things a virtual Nazi deathroom.
March 27, 2008 at 9:54 am
Oh yeah, I do that each weekend. Me, draws, Braves, bird, and nate will do it for a case of Miller Lite.
March 27, 2008 at 9:54 am
I helped pour one once GG. Probably the hardest work I ever did. Was sore for a week. Made me appreciate the illegal immigrants.
March 27, 2008 at 9:55 am
Point being, if you have the money, get a pro to do it. You can drink beer and watch.
March 27, 2008 at 9:56 am
I know a place!
March 27, 2008 at 9:57 am
braves is the supervisor. If we work fast enough, we get to drink what he’s got left.
March 27, 2008 at 9:57 am
Pix can take pictures!
March 27, 2008 at 9:57 am
Yeah, I’m going to have to pay. I did a sidewalk a couple of years ago, and swore I would never do that again. And this project is much, much bigger.
March 27, 2008 at 9:58 am
Farley greens are my favorite veggie. I’m a soul food fanatic.
March 27, 2008 at 9:58 am
You guys do it for free, and I’ll supply all the beer and steaks, potatoes and bread you can handle. Team work.
March 27, 2008 at 9:59 am
Draws and I would break you on beer alone.
March 27, 2008 at 9:59 am
There is a locally owned company in Tupelo that can take care of all those needs GG.
March 27, 2008 at 10:02 am
I’ve called one, Braves, and was told all they did was pour the stuff. I need someone to mark it with the 2 x4s and all that stuff, too.
March 27, 2008 at 10:04 am
Lowe’s commercial says you can you it Gregg and they can help. I’m calling BS on that commercial. There are some crazy permit stuff in the city…even if it is not attached to your house roof line. Water lines into the house, grade and drainage issues, expansion joints, sealing and finish for kids slipping, 1(800)YOUDIG lines that can be cut. I would just get a cooler of beer like pix said.
March 27, 2008 at 10:04 am
Yeah, those $5 beers at the mudcats game took a tole on my pocketbook.
March 27, 2008 at 10:07 am
yeah. The city loves to nickel and dime you for fees.
March 27, 2008 at 10:07 am
They can give you the name of “finishers” who do that type of work. They have a construction division, but normally do not pour patios. They are pretty pricey on that type of work anyway. You just need them to recommend you a “finisher” for the type of work you want done.
March 27, 2008 at 10:08 am
I must have close to a 12 pack Saturday. Drank 2 or 3 on the way down. And all that had was that crappy Bud Light at the game.
March 27, 2008 at 10:08 am
You could just go with the redneck patio and move a couple of lawn chairs around on a 4 sheets of plywood. You could even move it around for shade when summer gets here.
March 27, 2008 at 10:09 am
I actually might know someone. My cousin does that kind of work. He lives in B’Ham, but visits his folks in Columbus all the time. He might do it.
March 27, 2008 at 10:11 am
I’m fairly certain the company in question can come up with someone.
March 27, 2008 at 10:11 am
I’ve laid the concrete pavers several times. They look good and a lot less trouble.
March 27, 2008 at 10:14 am
I’m so glad yall are taking the heat off of me with this conversation
March 27, 2008 at 10:14 am
Yea, Pavers is not that hard to do Gregg…unless this is one that is elevated very far off from the slope of the yard.
March 27, 2008 at 10:16 am
2th, your wanted in the Van.
March 27, 2008 at 10:18 am
I’m actually going to use it as a basketball court for my son more than a patio. And wifey says it has to be dyed, too.
March 27, 2008 at 10:18 am
Ima, I agree with you. As much as I like Polk and would hate to see his time end, its probably time for a change.
Now, back to Landscaper’s Challenge with Gregg Ellis.
March 27, 2008 at 10:21 am
Creative Concrete is the only one I would talk to Gregg. For staining and finishing, pouring, scoring, Stan is the man. Great guy and has built his company from ground up completely on satisfied customers.
March 27, 2008 at 10:23 am
They have a contractor supply store that sells concrete stain and the manger of which can give you detailed instructions as how to apply it or give you the name of someone who can. The dye can also by applied when the concrete is batched, but that can be a lot more expensive than stain.
March 27, 2008 at 10:23 am
Creative Concrete is very good!
March 27, 2008 at 10:24 am
He does alot of the work for most of the swimming pool places, restaurants, residential, commercial. He can take care of everything or just the staining.
March 27, 2008 at 10:27 am
Stan’s a good guy. I used to work with him.
March 27, 2008 at 10:28 am
They have brochures for him at the company I was telling you about GG. The work in it is impressive.
March 27, 2008 at 10:30 am
But can he paint a gigantic GG logo at mid-court, similar to Georgia Tech’s logo?
March 27, 2008 at 10:31 am
I’m sure he could do that with ease.
March 27, 2008 at 10:33 am
that would be sweet jaybird!
March 27, 2008 at 10:37 am
Man, you guys are a lot of help. Cool. Thanks.
So, if BB will pour, Stan will do the pre-op and post-op for me?
March 27, 2008 at 10:38 am
Yep, pretty much.
March 27, 2008 at 10:40 am
Concrete is pretty expensive, too, right. I’m figuring on a $4,000 project.
March 27, 2008 at 10:41 am
Did Hopson play last night or is that game another night? If he did how did he do? Or am I just imagining that there was a game to be played?
March 27, 2008 at 10:43 am
About $80 per yard, depending on the mix, plus Stan’s cost on top of that.
March 27, 2008 at 10:43 am
He played last night. Didn’t start, and I only watched for a few minutes. He had a dunk and he knocked a rebound out of bounds.

2thdoc Says:
March 26, 2008 at 10:49 pm
The announcers asked if it was likely for him to sign with State since he changed his listing as undecided. The other announcer guy said “from what I’ve been hearing around here this week, I would be surprised if he ended up at MSU”.
March 27, 2008 at 10:47 am
Game story from Rivals:
http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=790430
Hopson had 10 points.
March 27, 2008 at 11:21 am
I pulled this off of Rivals.com
Scotty Hopson, Undecided: 10 points on 4-5 shooting, 0-1 from three, 2-4 from the line, 2 rebounds, 1 steal in 12:43 minutes of play
March 27, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Hey Gregg I have a guy that can do it for a lot cheaper that some of the other folks will.
March 27, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Hopson didn’t do too much last night! I was impressed with Elliot Williams of St. George of Memphis. I had the pleasure of playing against Williams when he was a phenominal sophomore. If you define him scoring 30 pts in the first half phenominal.
March 27, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Does anyone in here know if Tupelo High School baseball has a game tonight in Tupelo? If so, what time?
March 27, 2008 at 2:00 pm
It’s not listed in the paper if they do.
March 27, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Tupelo host South Panola tonight at 7 p.m.
March 27, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Thanks rebelnutt!
March 27, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Just trying to help you but you got to go and start the name calling
March 27, 2008 at 3:53 pm
Smack a hell outta him nate!
March 27, 2008 at 3:54 pm
I was just tryin to help the dude out
March 27, 2008 at 3:54 pm
I hope a foul ball hits him in the temple
March 27, 2008 at 4:04 pm
I see you full-time bloggers stick together……I appreciate the info on Tupelo High, and as for as the foul ball I’ll be sure and keep my head on a swivel during the game! Glad to see Mayor Farley had to throw in his 2 cents…..some people just like to be seen and heard
March 27, 2008 at 4:08 pm
When farley speaks people listen.
March 27, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Gregg,
Word out of Starkville is that Polk has said he is retiring the end of this season. Heard anything?
March 27, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Farley is not the mayor, he’s only the vice-mayor/janitor. The powers-that-be at the Daily Journal won’t give him a raise.
March 27, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Supposedly he resigned today effective at season’s end???
March 27, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Where did you seeing that, dawgbones?
March 27, 2008 at 4:18 pm
just saw it on Gene’s Page.
March 27, 2008 at 4:31 pm
bones, just refresh the button, man. It’s already up.
March 27, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Well, you were being an assclown.
