Polk didn’t seek out ejections . . . really
OK. Ron Polk gets tossed three times against Kentucky.
Coincidence? Or was he trying to put assistant Tommy Raffo, who he endorsed as his replacement, in position to run the team against UK coach John Cohen, who many think might get the job?
Polk laughed at that notion and said it’s ridiculous.
“If that was the case, I would have just stepped down last week and let Tommy take over for the rest of the season,” he said. “I can’t believe people actually think that. Do they?”
To that I said, yes. He laughed again.
“I felt I was put in a position to defend my team,” he said. “I didn’t run out on the field thinking, ‘I need to get tossed so Tommy can take over.’ That was never a thought. Absolutely not.”
He did say he didn’t think he should have been ejected on Sunday and that the ump was quick to send him packing.

The jury is still out. I thought he made a valid argument to dispute the accusation. But darn, you just can’t overlook the coincidence.
It’s all about the timing.

I agree, Gregg. It’s way to coincidental. Not only that, this weekend is his first ejection in two years. Again, coincidence? Methinks not. Polk’s ego is out of control. Quite simply, he believes he’s bigger than the program and the school. He knows Cohen is the fan favorite to replace him, but he wants Raffo, and he’s doing whatever he thinks is necessary for that to happen. I say let him carry on. The more he acts like a spoiled child not getting his way, the more he hurts Raffo and turns the fan base against him. I know I’ve lost a lot of respect for him over the last couple of weeks.
With all that said, he did have a legitimate gripe yesterday. I don’t think he intended to get tossed at that point, but I do think he’d have gotten himself tossed at some point, so it probably didn’t bother him that much.

I thought the police incident was last year at Southern. Maybe I’m wrong.

No, that was 2 years ago, draws. He & Jim both said he didn’t get tossed last season & hadn’t been tossed this season until this weekend, when he gets ejected from all 3.
