Things that make you go hum . . .

by

It’s already been one of those days, so might as well share with you my adventures of the morning.

My car tag expires on Thursday. So, I go this morning to avoid the first-of-the-month crowd. After standing in line for 20 minutes, I’m told the computers won’t let me pay in advance and that I’ve got to come back on Thursday. Really? I just find that hard to believe. Yet, if I’m late, they charge me a fee. Go figure.
I get the bird out this morning to let it play outside the cage, but before I can do that, I have to put the dog (Shaggy) up in my bedroom, because he doesn’t exactly get along well with others, especially birds. After a few minutes, the phone rings. So, I go into my room to answer it. At the same time, my dogs sees his window of opportunity and sneaks out. Moments later, the bird screeches. Really loud. Then I realize the dog is out. Fortunately, there is no death. Just a disappointed dog licking his chops.
Then it’s time for me to go to work. But as I try to get the bird (Romey), he decides to play chase. He runs under the dining room table, making it very difficult for me to trap him. No, impossible. But 10 minutes later, he’s had enough and decides to give in. Birds!
After all that chaos ended, I went to get my cell and car keys before heading out the door, and they are nowhere to be found. I search and search. And I might have said an ugly word or two. And of course, my dog is looking at me like I’m an idiot. He doesn’t know who I am yelling at. And for that matter, I don’t either. But after a Ron Polk-like rage, I find them. Where? In a drawer that I would have never put them in. Hum. Whom to blame? Wifey, perhaps.
And finally, I get in the car and turn on my XM. Well, I attempt to turn it on. But, it won’t work. I have no idea why. I hit the on button so much that my finger is now raw. I guess that will be my afternoon project.

Tonight, of course, the Dawgs Road Tour visits Tupelo. I’ll be there. Hopefully, with no more misfortunes.

Hope you all are having a good day. Cheers!

As the old Chinese proverb goes: “Sh** happens.”
Or, as I like to put it, “Some days you are the bird; somedays you are the statue.”

My day hasn’t been that bad, but I did get my blood pressure medicine refilled Friday. And of course lost it this weekend. Looks like it’s time to make a phone call.

Gregg, i don’t know how to catch a bird. But i can give you plenty of tips on how to shut one up. My parents have one at their house and i’ve discovered that a shoe to the cage from across the room can shut em up real quick. i guess you could try that method to catch it………then i don’t think you would ever have to worry about catching it again.

It all happened in a matter of a two hours, which was entertaining. I’m still perturbed about the car tag thing, though.

Bully, I’m sure that will work. The bird is fine. He was yelling because the Dog was after him.

Ummm,…let’s see. I left out on Thursday early AM to make the round trip drive to Nashville and back. My sons were out of school on Friday, so I picked them up a day early. Saturday morning, I am up at 5AM. I take my oldest son and my yougest son to my sister’s in Splunge to stay for the day while my middle son & I makes the drive to Eagleville HS, 4 miles south of 840 (Nashville) for a band event. He has two sessions. They both last a total of 8 minutes combined. We wait to find out his scores (#1 snare & #1 xylophone)! Then drive back to MS. Total driving time about 10 hours. It’s rather poignant. Saturday morning early we are having breakfast at home in Hamilton, MS. Then at 1:30pm, Jon & I are sitting in a Subway in the middle of nowhere, Chapel Hill, TN having lunch. Then at 7pm or so, we are back in Aberdeen at the hospital visiting with Dad.% Then, Sunday, it’s back to Nashville to carry my sons back to the plaintiff (aka, ugh…mother)
But, my weekend isn’t over yet. I stay overnight in a hotel so I can attend a school field trip with my middle son’s 6th grade class to the TN Aquarium in Chattanooga. All day there, then I make my final-6th drive back to Ms. I arrive home and crash in the bed about 8PM. The phone rings at midnight. It’s my mother calling about Dad. I get up and drive to the hospital. Dad has to be moved to the N MS Med Cntr in Tupelo at 2AM. I make it back home to bed about 3AM. Finally, some 120 hours after this weekend began, my driving and going is over! Whew! I am gradually catching up.

Don’t you just hate it when you go into the DMV to get your tag renewed and they tell you that you are TOO early!! :)

Sorry Gregg just had to do it!

just a thought… but have you paid your XM bill? [he says sheepishly]
