When you think about the past season that was Mississippi State athletics, what would you say are the defining moments for football, basketball and baseball.
One or two from each sport will do.

football = AJ’s pick six vs Bama

baseball = Losing to out of three to open the season to North Florida.

Holy Crap!!! Great minds think alike!!

Football: Pick 6 and Croom saying “Winston Churchill say”
Basketball: Ole Miss beat down and Varnado’s triple double
Baseball: Opening weekend and the retirement ceremony for Polk.
May 20, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Football: Pick 6 and the Win at Kentucky.
Basketball: Hanging in there at Vandy while Shan Foster was lighting it up, and the beatdown against Ole Miss. 3 wins over bama wasn’t bad either.
Baseball: Polk’s retirement, and Bowen’s near no-no against Ole Miss.
Softball, Women’s Basketball, Track, Golf…Who cares.

Football: The final touchdown run against Auburn.
Basketball: Against Kentucky. I knew that we had finally figured out what we were good at and what we struggled in.
Baseball: Losing a game to Air Force. I was concerned with the North Florida results, but I just said, initially, hey, its like Dallas Baptist last year. Later I realized that I was wrong.

oh yeah. The Liberty Bowl win. That was pretty good.

Dogsrule, I agree with Auburn. I thought I would be on the only one to say that game. I think that showed this team they can play with, and beat, anyone in the league. That was a huge, huge confidence builder.

Football: Winning at UK built a little more respect for the program and it’s chances for a bowl. Pass deflection in the endzone against Auburn to seal the win made me think that we might have a little luck on our side.
Basketball: Ole Miss thrashing at the Hump when we were playing on all cylinders. Vandy and Memphis games were defining moments that are not easily forgotten…”Close but no cigar”
Baseball: The pitching staff’s ERA after the UT and Vandy series.

I would say Auburn game in football, espicailly the way the defense adusted after they went to the spread offense. Basketball, the way we blew the Georgia game by not running in the SEC tourney as GA played the second game of a double dip. And baseball the retirement of Polk. And jaybird at least the softball and golf teams made their respective tournaments.

that’s right Draws, “great mind”

2thdoc, how many times you think you’ve heard, “I’ve got a toothache?” I bet a lot.
May 20, 2008 at 4:11 pm
football-me not getting thrown outta any games
basketball-me not getting thrown outta any games
baseball-Polk finally hanging up the spikes and me not getting thrown outta any games.

I have five, and they’re all from football:
(1) Titus Brown’s sack of John Parker Wilson on the final play of the win over Alabama;
(2) Derek Pegues’ interception return for a touchdown in the win at Auburn;
(3) Derek Pegues’ punt return for a touchdown against Mississippi;
(4) Sylvester Croom running with the flag after the Egg Bowl; and
(5) Seeing a vast sea of maroon walking the streets around the Liberty Bowl and filling the stadium.

Farley, I would have to concur. LOL!
Trapper, are you knew to the blog? I don’t recognize your username.

Football-Pegues touchdown against Auburn
Basketball-Jamont’s no look pass to C-Rhodes
Baseball-The series loss to Bama

Defining moments: wow! that a good one at stressville! Suggestion, bring back Jackie Parker and Joe Fortunato. Great football players. They were a team within themselves. Had the pleasure of watching both of them perform. They really gave the Rebs a good game.

Gregg, I’d say “toothache” gets brought up about 50 times a week. That might be close to the earned runs allowed per week for State.

Well played, 2thdoc.

Coolest thing happened at work today - NCAA coaches came to our Air Force Base (Scott)
Charlie Weiss
Randy Shannon - Miami
Mark Richt - UGA
Tommy Tuberville
Yale’s coach
Got a picture with all of them
Funniest thing - Bama fan in full gear went up to Tuberville’s line and got an autograph. The look on Tubby’s face was priceless
Wish Croom had been on that tour, would have rang my cowbell in the Officer’s Club
May 20, 2008 at 8:14 pm
That’s cool, dc31. Now you need to post the pic.
May 20, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Will Do
May 21, 2008 at 8:36 am
Football: AJ’s pick six, Jamar Chaney obliterating Shay Hodge
Basketball: Hansbrough’s Three free throws at SC, the tornado at the Dome
Baseball: Bowen’s should have been no hitter (ruined by bad defense), 5 errors in Old Number 1’s last game
May 21, 2008 at 12:48 pm
From way out in west Texas:
Football — AJ’s td return was thr tunr-around, but for my (little)money, the way the ‘Dogs beat that other SEC place in Mississippi if the “defining” moment — especially after having lost to them so often in similar ways.
Basketball — b**ch slapping that other SEC place in Mississippi
Baseball — I have no idea, but the Polk resignation is significant!
Farley — In case it offers any consolation (if needed), a ref once kicked me (a faculty member) out of a baskeball game here. He told me, “I am sending you to the parking lot.” My reply: “I’m going, but you will still suck!”
May 21, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Football: Croom actually relaxing and showing some emotion by running with the MSU flag across the field after Mississippi State beat Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl
