MSU closer Aaron Weatherford was selected in the third round by the Colorado Rockies earlier today with the 103rd overall pick.
I talked with him for a few minutes tonight, and he said he’s excited and ready to get to work. He’ll meet with one of the Rockies scouts next week to determine where he’ll be assigned.
After he said that, I asked if that meant he was done with college baseball and he said, yes.
Obviously, the money will be just too good to pass up.

Good luck Aaron. Thanks for being a bulldog.

draws, I think Aaron has a very bright future in front of him.

Regardless of what he makes at signing, he has some major talent that will pay dividends at the next level. Prolly a steal at #103 being under the radar this year.

If there are any more baseball geeks like me out there. Here’s a link to audio streaming of the super regionals.

I think he has a very bright future and we arent the only one. Keith Law of ESPN said he was probably the most MLB ready closer in the draft and could be one of those that makes it to the majors in the fall of the same year he was drafted.

Definitely a steal at 103. I had hoped the Braves would grab him, but I guess they think they got burned with Joey Devine.

Guys, I’m in Memphis for the next couple of days covering the St. Jude golf tournament. If someone would post updates on the draft regarding MSU players, I would appreciate it.

Rashan Dixon was just taken in round 10 (304th pick) by the A’s.
June 6, 2008 at 11:13 am |
I wonder if that means he goes.
June 6, 2008 at 11:15 am |
Hopefully he decides that he could do better than that in the future, so that he will come to MSU and be a 2 sport star…

I feel really good about our chances now. If anyone will flat out never pay out of slot, it will be the Oakland Thrift Store Bargain A’s.

“I have a pretty black and white plan,” Dixon said. “If I don’t go in the top three rounds or get my bottom line dollar amount, then I am coming to Starkville to play football and baseball. I have told that to the pro scouts and I have told that to the Mississippi State coaches.”
That is from a Rivals.com interview I read… hopefully his ‘bottom dollar’ is pretty high

Like I said, with it being the A’s, it won’t have to be too high to be higher than what they want to offer.

Thanks everydawg.

Brandon Turner just drafted in Round 12, 358 by the Marlins. I expect he will go unless they offer him peanuts.

Tyler Moore just went 16th Round #481

No Bowen or Hogue and they are in round 21. Looks like we will get those two back at least, hopefully Tyler Moore.
