Blogging from the 17th at Southwind.
Sorry so short, but this is hard to do from a Blackberry. However, I’ve just been informed by MSU media relations director Mike Nemeth there will be a press conference tomorrow at 1p.m. at the Bryan Building to name Ron Polk’s successor.
Several sources close to the situation say that the new coach is likely John Cohen, a former player that’s spent the last four years at the helm of Kentucky. In addition, I was just sent this story from the Louisville paper outlining a press conference later today that will introduce a new Wildcats coach.
Thanks for your patience. Man, it’s hot in Memphis

I expect it is John Cohen, but I’m not betting anything on it. I just have a weird feeling about the whole deal.

I know. I still have a weird feeling. But like I said, I expect it to be Cohen.

Wow Kentucky sure didnt waste any time for a replacement, Mitch Barnhardt must have had a pretty good idea this was going to happen

My boy Boo should be on or around the 17th GG

All right, sports fans. I finally got the story to link. Bham, when I was on 17, Weekley was on 11.

By the way, don’t interpret my “weird feeling to be any kind of slight to John Cohen. I intend to fully support whoever we hire as baseball coach. It’s just stranger things have happened. And I wouldn’t put it past Greg and Barnhardt to get a big kick out of everybody scrambling to hold a press conference saying he is staying or something like that.

I don’t think they would do that.
June 6, 2008 at 3:23 pm |
Now that I have mulled that thought over, thinking of how annoyed everyone would be, I think it would be something I would do if I ever became an AD. The thought is even funnier the more I think about it.

No it’s not either. LOL.

If any of you want to be quoted about this for tomorrows paper (sorry, must use real name), let me know by sending an email and I’ll call you.

Ok, good, that is done. Now we can get down to the business of winning.

That’s great news about the possibility of this new coach coming on board. Now State can get on with their baseball programs and business.

Great hire. I’m really excited about the direction of the program and I’m glad Byrne took his own path.
The Courier Journal in KY has announced that Cohen has resigned to accept the same position at MSU. Sorry I don’t have the link. Also, UK has already promoted an assistant.

theconquistador2, I have that linked in this blog.

I saw that after I posted. I jumped the gun and posted before reading. haha
June 6, 2008 at 5:33 pm |
Hey, it happens.
June 6, 2008 at 5:36 pm |
Sounds good. From what I’ve seen on the UK sights they are kind of hoh hum about it. Looks like they’ve got a good coach in place too.

GG – you need to talk to Polk. He ain’t happy.
June 6, 2008 at 5:46 pm |
I know the rules, but go check out Polk’s comments elsewhere on the interwebs. I say, so long, go be a cry baby in Arizona.
June 6, 2008 at 5:59 pm |
Question now is does Raffo, McNickle stay? Or does Raffo go to Auburn since his alma mater pushed him to the side?
June 6, 2008 at 6:14 pm |
Boy. I’ve lost a lot of respect for Polk during this whole coaching search especially after those comments. This is sad and angering to me. I’d be perfectly fine with taking is whiney ass name off the stadium.
Polk,
Go away and take your national championships with you…oh wait.
