Tech Tidbits

By Brad Locke

First off, OL Derek Sherrod did not practice again today. Not sure he’ll even play Saturday. Maybe they won’t need him.

Anyway, I mentioned the other day that Louisiana Tech historically gives SEC teams a tough time. The Bulldogs are 3-24-1 against SEC foes since joining Division I in 1989. In their first matchup against an SEC school, they tied South Carolina (that was actually a pretty heated rivalry for a few years). Tech’s first SEC win: 38-23 over MSU in 1996, the last time the teams met. It also beat Alabama in 1997 and ‘99.

In weather news, Hurricane Gustav will not affect Saturday’s game. If it hits Louisiana, it will be early next week, and Ruston is in the north part of the state anyway. Saturday’s forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms.

I spoke today with Malcolm Butler, Tech’s assistant athletics director, and asked about tickets. He said plenty still remain but thinks a sellout of 30,600-seat Joe Aillet Stadium is still possible.

“We’ve always historically gotten a good walk-up crowd. Our folks are so used to being able to walk up 30 minutes before the game and get a ticket. We’re excited about the potential for the crowd,” Butler said.

    KJV:
Psalm 118: 24. This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:6. Jesus saith unto him(Thomas), I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

A great day to all; GOD love you and so do we!

    Thats right JB,

what we have is the greatest give of all, Christ-the holy one Living in us. For it is no longer God with us, such as with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but the veil has been torn from top to bottom and we have access by our faith. God in us. And we bring nothing to the table, except for the righteousness of Christ-i which we have peace with God.

    One more day-Go Daaaaaawwwwggggsssss!!!!

ima, don’t know if Hurricane Gustav will have any effect on your ball game this week-end at La Tech, or not. That storm, if on track should hit NO area Tues. People in NO are starting to evacuate as we speak. The best of luck enjoy the game.

  6. imabulldog Says:

I hope it doesnt, it might, but I think they are saying Sunday/Monday on the storm affecting Ruston. Ive got some really dumb friends going to the beach this weekend. Im not really sure why they want to go-especially with the storm and all.

Should be a great weekend of ball. Going over to some friends house, starting with UF and Hawaii, to LSU vs AppSt, to State and LaT, through Bama vs Clemson!!! Gonna watch them all and pig out on grilled food :)

    Jimmy Barbee,

Your last Scripture quote is John 14:6, not John 3:6.

Shmuley, JB got it mixed up because he’s getting a little nervous about Memphis.

Congrads Brad, big shoes to fill and a hard crowd to please.

LA Tech will be impressive no doubt. Last year I believe it was they hanged with Hawaii and Ole Miss.

But I pray that State sticks with their guns (mainly more and more of Dixon) for the first game. SE LA is when you can afford to try something new

  11. Brad Locke Says:

Yeah, joe, Tech lost 45-44 to Hawaii in OT and gave Fresno State and Boise State a good scare, too. Ole Miss beat Tech 24-0, the Rebels’ largest winning margin under Ed Orgeron.

  12. Jimmy Barbee Says:

Thanks Shmuley, for the correction. I knew it was John 14:6, just made a typo. Again thanks. 2Doc not nervous about Memphis, seen upsets by Memphis over OM before. And It could happen again.

A great weekend to all you State Fans. You have a double foe this week-end. La Tech and possible some of Gustav.

Hurricane Gustav is most definitely affecting yours truly. Tulane is evacuating students this weekend, and classes start back on Thursday. Kinda sucks having to re-pack alot of your stuff a week after moving in.
