Here we go. Good stop by MSU defense on opening drive. Now backed up to its own 4.

Missed the kickoff BL how did they look when they came out? I’m thinking we should post at least 40 today and sharpen some things for a very beatable Auburn team.
Thanks, BL….by the way how did the dogs come out of the locker room? Did they do they same thing as last year through the helmet? Also i heard when we scored the TD that big Air Horn? Is that new or did they have it last year? I don’t remember it?
Honestly, I wasn’t paying much attention to the pregame stuff. I was watching Wake Forest beat Ole Miss with a last-second field goal. I think they came out a little blow-up tunnel, though.
Air horn? I wasn’t here last year, so couldn’t tell you. Was loud, though.
SLU usually plays a 3-man front and started the game that way, but I think the MSU run game is why they’re plaing four now. SLU has made some good stops and hard hits. Can’t say MSU is playing way better than them.
That is exactly the reason the defense seems to run out of gas at the end of games. Stupid mistakes and turnovers is murder. Somebody needs to just stand up and say that they need to take over once they are given breakes.
Seem to be getting our hands on a lot of passes BL. Is the SELA QB a short guy or are we just doing a good job of getting penatration and getting our hands up.
Should we not be up by 21 considering we are a SEC team???????? Is that realistic or am I asking for too much?????????? We did manage to pick up the 1st just now!
I think we should be up 21 also tex, but not because we are an SEC team but because we had a lot of chance to score TD’s. Once the game starts it comes down to man on man, team on team in my opinion. Conference goes out the window.
Yet, another clock management mistake raises it’s ugly head. But at least we got 6 out of it.
Wilbanks is a squad player, junior who walked on, been on special teams. First career catch, so kudos to him. Supposedly had a good week of practice. Nice use of the tight ends this half. Stats coming.
DEFINITELY AGREE A TE IS A GOOD POSITION TO USE TO SOFTEN THE D. Auburn’s O lookes pretty rough, but the D looked good especially Marks (94) he will be a force on the front.
I will say that the good Rev. Nutt has made a real turnaround from the days of O, yaw yaw yaw.
I gotta say thanks to whoever it is in my neighborhood that I’m bootlegging my WIFI from. I wouldn’t be able to be here and listen to Jack and Jim without them. LOL
Snead is a good qb. He kept plays alive and found the openings. The rebs showed some speed. First time I have seen them. I got to watch USM and UM today on TV and have to listen to internet for MSU, but at least it is jack.
wow two games in a row MSU has had over 300 yards total offense!!! Who would have ever thought of that. I’m really happy with our perfomance right now. I couple mistakes here and there. Those field goals needs to be touchdowns next week against Auburn but I think we will be alright. I know it is just LA tech and SEL but over 300 yards total offense the first two games thats not to bad.
I hope everybody can relax a little now!! We are going to be alright….we just had a bad first game. It happens sometimes. I’m glad to see CC backed his word and got the team ready for this weekend. I just hope he can get us ready for next weekend. Also he better keep running that score up!! I would love for us to put up 60!!!!
Exactly what I was thinking dawgfan. I like the old ball coach philosophy, if you want me to stop scoring, stop me. However, next week is Tubby and Auburn so there should be no reason for CC to have to do anything extra. If they can’t get themselves up to play we’re screwed anyway. Ready to play is definately the coach’s job.
Good to hear the back ups are getting quality playing time and still moving the rock. That’s what makes the future bright is getting big leads and playing the reserves. But I want the same game plan being executed no garbage time crap. Try to punch it in.
We almost have 400 yards total offense!!! I cant believe I’m so excited about having 400 yards offense!!! but hey I guess thats what happens when you have a dismal offense for the last oh I don’t know FOREVER!!!!!!!
It’s good to know that the Dawgs have figured out how to win again. I hope they get a little bit of a swagger, but not forget how to work. Now, if I can figure out how to kill all the mushrooms in my lawn all will be right with the world again.
chris….just pick all of and boil them!! I here that makes you feel pretty damn good!! JK!! Chris I’m orginally from Iuka. MY family lives there still and I will be moving back next summer!!!
That will be a good game, upset in the making. I think our Defense will match up well with their offense. Our offense needs to AU doesn’t look like a #9 team.
Sure is good not to have to stress over the game for 4 qtrs. The team gets it done early and then you can really enjoy the company around you. Would like to see the back ups put points on the board though.
Last I heard in camp was that his practice habits were not what CC wanted to see. I would sure be nice to have 3 QB’s to go to and not be in the situation we have been in, in the past.
Good win boys, guess I gotta take the lady bowling now. So, I’m out. Wrap this one in Maroon and White. I’m out.
Relf is head & shoulders above Lee. He’s 6′3″ and some 225 pounds. Lee appears to be quite small on the field of play, standing among the other players. Not for sure why Croom isn’t playing Relf, but his prescence on the field is quite impressive.

Very much fun to watch… Carroll ran the offense effectively and produced good numbers. Actually, if truth be known, Ducre is the better running back. If only by a fine margin… Dixon is pounding, scratching and stretching for all he can get on each and every run he makes. THERE is NO slack on his part. I love a passing offense. But when you watch these two backs run, coupled with an Elliott run late in the game, these guys are running north to south and letting no one get in their way. The Auburn game will be a good one. Our players have the talent, the ability, the right stuff…
September 6, 2008 at 6:09 pm |
dixon still jumping around?
September 6, 2008 at 6:18 pm |
SLU strikes first. Good stop there by Fitzhugh on third down, though. Dixon had one carry for 2 yards that first drive.
September 6, 2008 at 6:27 pm |
Nice 50-yard catch and run by Marcus Green to set up Anthony Dixon’s 14-yard TD run. 7-3 State.
September 6, 2008 at 6:35 pm |
Missed the kickoff BL how did they look when they came out? I’m thinking we should post at least 40 today and sharpen some things for a very beatable Auburn team.
Putting on the ground aint gone get it, though.
September 6, 2008 at 6:37 pm |
BL, what was up with that fumble? Was it Jameyl’s fault it did he get it stripped?
September 6, 2008 at 6:40 pm |
He was stripped, but he shouldn’t have lost it. Two fumbles in two weeks.
Chris, MSU had to punt first possession after stopping SLU.
September 6, 2008 at 6:43 pm |
I like what I just heard, Co-Eric caught the ball even after a big hit. That’s what a receiver needs to do, even thought it was for a loss.
September 6, 2008 at 6:43 pm |
Thanks, BL….by the way how did the dogs come out of the locker room? Did they do they same thing as last year through the helmet? Also i heard when we scored the TD that big Air Horn? Is that new or did they have it last year? I don’t remember it?
September 6, 2008 at 6:43 pm |
Co-Eric Riley down after a 15-yard catch. Two good licks in a row he’s taken. Looks OK now.
September 6, 2008 at 6:44 pm |
how is the attendence for today’s game?
September 6, 2008 at 6:45 pm |
Honestly, I wasn’t paying much attention to the pregame stuff. I was watching Wake Forest beat Ole Miss with a last-second field goal. I think they came out a little blow-up tunnel, though.
Air horn? I wasn’t here last year, so couldn’t tell you. Was loud, though.
September 6, 2008 at 6:46 pm |
1st quarter grade (C).
September 6, 2008 at 6:46 pm |
Not a sellout, but not bad considering the opponent and what happened last week. Will get a number soon.
September 6, 2008 at 6:48 pm |
BL how does SELA “D” look conppare to LA Tech
September 6, 2008 at 6:50 pm |
Going for it on 4th-and-1 … Dixon gets it. Good call.
September 6, 2008 at 6:51 pm |
wow 7 first downs already……I like that
September 6, 2008 at 6:51 pm |
SLU usually plays a 3-man front and started the game that way, but I think the MSU run game is why they’re plaing four now. SLU has made some good stops and hard hits. Can’t say MSU is playing way better than them.

September 6, 2008 at 6:54 pm |
Don’t know what happened to that.
September 6, 2008 at 6:55 pm |
10-3 on Carlson’s 33-yard field goal. That was a 17-play, 64-yard drive that took 7:38 off the clock. And all they got was 3.
September 6, 2008 at 6:55 pm |
I like the fact that the we are using a lot of different formations but would much rather have TD’s going up rather than FG’s.
September 6, 2008 at 6:55 pm |
I am glad to be up, but we have got to put up touchdowns against this team!
September 6, 2008 at 6:56 pm |
Special teams still do not have together!
September 6, 2008 at 7:01 pm |
Gotta love the way that Jim Ellis subtly corrects Jack. Kind of like Harry Cary and Stever Stone back in the day.
September 6, 2008 at 7:02 pm |
Jack called Tim Bailey, Tim Brown
September 6, 2008 at 7:03 pm |
not getting alot on punt returns today
September 6, 2008 at 7:04 pm |
Carroll fumble. Another great-looking play gone bad.
September 6, 2008 at 7:06 pm |
That is exactly the reason the defense seems to run out of gas at the end of games. Stupid mistakes and turnovers is murder. Somebody needs to just stand up and say that they need to take over once they are given breakes.
September 6, 2008 at 7:08 pm |
Gotta have 6 right now
September 6, 2008 at 7:11 pm |
13-3 on Carlson’s 41-yarder.
September 6, 2008 at 7:15 pm |
State’s D has deflected a lot of passes at or behind the line.
September 6, 2008 at 7:16 pm |
Seem to be getting our hands on a lot of passes BL. Is the SELA QB a short guy or are we just doing a good job of getting penatration and getting our hands up.
September 6, 2008 at 7:20 pm |
Gotta score in situations like this!
September 6, 2008 at 7:20 pm |
He’s 6-foot, but been getting into the backfield a good bit. They put in a 6-3 guy last series, Beatty.
September 6, 2008 at 7:23 pm |
Should we not be up by 21 considering we are a SEC team???????? Is that realistic or am I asking for too much?????????? We did manage to pick up the 1st just now!
September 6, 2008 at 7:24 pm |
what play was the reverse hb pass that jack talks about?
September 6, 2008 at 7:26 pm |
Horrible clock management. Better be sure if you run it.
September 6, 2008 at 7:26 pm |
GO FOR IT!!!!
September 6, 2008 at 7:27 pm |
Double-handoff, and Carroll threw a dead duck with a wide-open Bell near the end zone.
September 6, 2008 at 7:27 pm |
JACK IT HOT!!!
September 6, 2008 at 7:27 pm |
You tell em Jack!
September 6, 2008 at 7:27 pm |
JACK IS HOT ABOUT THE CLOCK MGT.
September 6, 2008 at 7:28 pm |
I think we should be up 21 also tex, but not because we are an SEC team but because we had a lot of chance to score TD’s. Once the game starts it comes down to man on man, team on team in my opinion. Conference goes out the window.
Yet, another clock management mistake raises it’s ugly head. But at least we got 6 out of it.
September 6, 2008 at 7:28 pm |
Jack is pissed at the way we managed the clock right there!!!!
September 6, 2008 at 7:29 pm |
Thank God!
September 6, 2008 at 7:29 pm |
Beautiful play, nice back-handed pitch by Carroll. 20-3 with 5 seconds left in half.
September 6, 2008 at 7:30 pm |
Good point CofC!
September 6, 2008 at 7:30 pm |
Wilbanks!?
September 6, 2008 at 7:30 pm |
I hope we are learning–making our mistakes NOW. We cannot play like this and be successful against the rest of our schedule.
September 6, 2008 at 7:30 pm |
Jack is still on the clock mgt. At least the half time Bianco will go a lot better with another TD.
September 6, 2008 at 7:31 pm |
yes BL who is this Wilbanks?
September 6, 2008 at 7:32 pm |
Gotta admit Rebs looked good today despite loss! Scary to think of the possibilities over there!
September 6, 2008 at 7:33 pm |
Wilbanks is a squad player, junior who walked on, been on special teams. First career catch, so kudos to him. Supposedly had a good week of practice. Nice use of the tight ends this half. Stats coming.
September 6, 2008 at 7:34 pm |
Wake let them hang around an awful lot tex.
September 6, 2008 at 7:35 pm |
Good half. if we can end the mistakes we will be great. Glad to see Dixon and Ducre mix and match. hope to see elliot and bonner back there.
Carroll looks good, statistically though.
September 6, 2008 at 7:35 pm |
My old man loves the use to the TE. He believes they are severly underused.
September 6, 2008 at 7:37 pm |
I think we left at least 8 points out there in the first half.
September 6, 2008 at 7:40 pm |
DEFINITELY AGREE A TE IS A GOOD POSITION TO USE TO SOFTEN THE D. Auburn’s O lookes pretty rough, but the D looked good especially Marks (94) he will be a force on the front.
September 6, 2008 at 7:40 pm |
I hear a band rocking out to Thriller. Is that the famous maroon and white.
September 6, 2008 at 7:41 pm |
True CoC but they were in position to win. Kicked Memphis butt instead of the usual sqeeking by. We’ll see as the year develops I guess.
2nd quarter grade for MSU (B-). Agree it is good to see D&D running the ball!
September 6, 2008 at 7:43 pm |
Yes, and the band was doing the Thriller dance. Pretty cool.
September 6, 2008 at 7:45 pm |
I will say that the good Rev. Nutt has made a real turnaround from the days of O, yaw yaw yaw.
I gotta say thanks to whoever it is in my neighborhood that I’m bootlegging my WIFI from. I wouldn’t be able to be here and listen to Jack and Jim without them. LOL

Kansas up 13-0 at half.
September 6, 2008 at 7:58 pm |
This Muscadine Ripple is really good.
September 6, 2008 at 8:01 pm |
Be careful with that alcohol on campus BL you could end up seeing the dean of students. Take it from a person that knows first hand.
That’s what I’m talking about. Take the kickoff downfield for a TD. Need to score on every posession the rest of the way.
September 6, 2008 at 8:01 pm |
That felt good! Lets do it some more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 6, 2008 at 8:01 pm |
Nice pass, nice catch by McRae, who has looked rather studly these first two games.
September 6, 2008 at 8:02 pm |
No no, Chris, ice cream.
Or do they put a “special” ingredient in it?
September 6, 2008 at 8:02 pm |
wow two games in a row MSU has had over 300 yards total offense!!! Who would have ever thought of that. I’m really happy with our perfomance right now. I couple mistakes here and there. That ice cream is surprising. used to make it when in school there
September 6, 2008 at 8:05 pm |
Sounds like something Fred Sanford would drink. Champipple
September 6, 2008 at 8:05 pm |
What did they say about a ham string??????? I just caught the tail end as I walked back in the room!!!!
September 6, 2008 at 8:06 pm |
With the loss of Cheney I’m glad to hear that Douglas is stepping his game up since CC said that he was going to have to be the guy.
September 6, 2008 at 8:07 pm |
Ice cream would be the catalyst for a real good Bianco for me, along with any other dairy product.
September 6, 2008 at 8:10 pm |
BL, is it a case of cream rising or have the team gotten that much better.
September 6, 2008 at 8:12 pm |
YaaaaaaaaaaaaHHHHHHHHH Babeeeeeeeeee! This is more like it! Just what we needed to do! Git – r – dun!!!!!
September 6, 2008 at 8:13 pm |
I hope everybody can relax a little now!! We are going to be alright….we just had a bad first game. It happens sometimes. I’m glad to see CC backed his word and got the team ready for this weekend. I just hope he can get us ready for next weekend. Also he better keep running that score up!! I would love for us to put up 60!!!!
September 6, 2008 at 8:16 pm |
Tyson Lee under center.
September 6, 2008 at 8:17 pm |
Bring out Relf!!!!
September 6, 2008 at 8:17 pm |
Exactly what I was thinking dawgfan. I like the old ball coach philosophy, if you want me to stop scoring, stop me. However, next week is Tubby and Auburn so there should be no reason for CC to have to do anything extra. If they can’t get themselves up to play we’re screwed anyway. September 6, 2008 at 8:17 pm |
did anybody see that UNLV is up by 7 on Utah
September 6, 2008 at 8:19 pm |
I think SLU is clearly overmatched, but MSU has looked pretty sharp, especially since the second quarter.
September 6, 2008 at 8:19 pm |
Good move on taking Carroll out! Gaining 1st downs with Lee! How cool is that!
September 6, 2008 at 8:19 pm |
I’m not seeing anything, I’m sitting on my front porch.
September 6, 2008 at 8:20 pm |

September 6, 2008 at 8:23 pm |
Good to hear the back ups are getting quality playing time and still moving the rock. That’s what makes the future bright is getting big leads and playing the reserves. But I want the same game plan being executed no garbage time crap. Try to punch it in.

That will be a good game, upset in the making. I think our Defense will match up well with their offense. Our offense needs to AU doesn’t look like a #9 team.
September 6, 2008 at 8:36 pm |

September 6, 2008 at 8:48 pm |
Sure is good not to have to stress over the game for 4 qtrs. The team gets it done early and then you can really enjoy the company around you. Would like to see the back ups put points on the board though.

corso is blocking the camera view at the florida game. the camera man asks him to move and he brushes him off. funny
September 6, 2008 at 8:55 pm |
Relf sounds like a protype QB. Would be nice if he could get his head right, or whatever it is that keeps him off the field. May not be for us though.
September 6, 2008 at 8:57 pm |
Does he have trouble with the system or just not performing?
September 6, 2008 at 9:02 pm |
Last I heard in camp was that his practice habits were not what CC wanted to see. I would sure be nice to have 3 QB’s to go to and not be in the situation we have been in, in the past.
Good win boys, guess I gotta take the lady bowling now. So, I’m out. Wrap this one in Maroon and White. I’m out.
September 6, 2008 at 9:03 pm |
Enjoyed it
September 6, 2008 at 9:07 pm |
Wish I could’ve seen it.
Go Dawgs
Hope we see it again.

September 6, 2008 at 10:42 pm |
Relf is head & shoulders above Lee. He’s 6′3″ and some 225 pounds. Lee appears to be quite small on the field of play, standing among the other players. Not for sure why Croom isn’t playing Relf, but his prescence on the field is quite impressive.
September 6, 2008 at 11:11 pm |
Yall have a good team and if the D tightens up a bit things should pan out for a good year for the Rebels. Does Ole Miss have any students that would like to punt for us in Starkville? Requirements are to have more than a 28 yard average.
September 6, 2008 at 11:13 pm |
We can not have kick-offs going to the 30 yrd line, 45 yrd line. Giving that kind of field position will put us in a hole early. This HAS to change, improve!

Meant to post that for the Rebel blog.
Should be a pumped up crowd for Auburn game. Given the let down from last week, seemed to be a good crowd tonight given the letdown last week. No smelly cups that I noticed.
September 7, 2008 at 2:06 am |
I need to post a positive aspect of the Dawgs. The game was a blast. The defense got wound up and literally shut the Lions’ offense down.
