Vandy-MSU: Predictions

By Brad Locke

OK, I’ve been hearing a lot of bold statements that MSU will beat Vanderbilt on Saturday. Not sure where the sudden optimism comes from, but that’s cool. So make it official with a prediction.

I understand that at some point, Vandy will falter. It’s been living off others’ mistakes, and that won’t last forever. But I don’t see the ‘Dores losing just yet.

Prediction: Vandy 20, MSU 17. Your turn.

ok, so i know using auburn’s offense for an argument is shaky ground, but vandy had a hard time stopping them when they lined up and ran the ball at them… then AU decided that that worked and switched to a pass game… i know its a prayer, but maybe the HC/OC have seen this, and we DO have a 240ish lb tailback…
thing is, Vandy likes to run the ball too. and i remember a certain GTech team that did also… ugh…

The “D” gets stingy this week and the “X” does enough with the turnovers and short fields to get a “W”. Dogs – 10 Vandy 5.

How sad is it that state is relegated to hoping to be a trap game for Vanderbilt? Vanderbilt. Yes, I just typed “Vanderbilt” and “trap game” in the same sentence. And “Vanderbilt” is NOT the “trap.” It’s both sad and depressing.

    No Athletic Department – 27
    No Coach – 13

And to the dude arguing that Auburn moved the ball on Vandy, you need to go back and look at the 2nd half after Vandy made adjustments (I realize being a state fan, you likely have no idea what halftime adjustments look like. It’s where the head coach changes some things so as to try to win the game. Crazy, isn’t it?!?!?). Auburn had 11 total yards in the 4th quarter. Eleven. That’s one more than 10.

I’m really torn. I want to be optimistic, but I don’t want to get my hopes up either.

I have to go with Mississippi State to cover the spread and possibly upset the Commodores but I am not sure about the win for the Bulldogs. I am sure they will play well.

I believe that the very good Miss State defense will show up for the game and demonstrate their outstanding capabilities once again. Hopeful the offense will chip in. I believe they will.

With all the positives in State’s favor this week I can’t doubt the Dawgs:

    1) Vandy played their biggest game ever last week (mentally & physically)
    2) State had an off week to watch Vandy play
    3) Put up 24 against LSU (in Death Valley)
    4) Home game
    5) D is going to the scheme from last year that was very opportunistic
    6) O plans to pound the ball with AD
    7) Vandy has the worst D in the league
    8) The game is not on TV (we’re undeafeated when untelevised, LOL)
    9) Auburn’s OC got the boot that’s got to be on Wxxdy’s mind
    10) If Herbstreit said its a trap game well then thats all we need, right?

I’m gonna say we’ll win by six. I’ll say 20-14 in the favor of the Dawgs. I just think Vandy is riding high and will possibly overlook us. Hell honestly Vandy isn’t that impressive. They don’t beat themselves but they’re offensive and defensive stats are even with ours if not a little worse. We’ll win and they’ll return to Earth

yeah wierd score, thought it would be fun….but im not going to pick state to win until they win a division 1 game…i know there has to be a first but i’ll have to wait and see…we will get no pressure on the QB…we will probably make mistakes just like usual and do something stupid…

but i hope i am wrong, hope we pull it off…GO DAWGS…

  18. mississippibulldawg Says:

Can’t go against the DAWGS, no matter what, don’t care what the current situation leads to.

Rooting for McCorvey to get amnesia and forget his normal game plan.

    Vandy = “less than State”

    GO TO HELL OLE MISS

  19. imabulldog Says:

    - Glad to see some of my positivity wearing off on some of yall.

My prediction last week was that we play LSU close, and that even out of a loss we turn our season around. So, I’m sticking to that as well, and think we turn it around this week! ‘as predicted’

  20. darkcooger Says:

The best part about being a Bulldog fan during football season is, I think, that no matter how bad the season is going, there’s always still some kind of optimism. I haven’t been able to explain to the people I work with here in Huntsville about that. They’re all the sort to start calling for coaches’ heads after any given loss. Sure, we’ve done a lot of bitching this season but we’ve put up with an awful lot leading up to this (and our complaints are almost certainly more deserved than the sort that come up from Tuscaloosa sometimes), and even now we’re an optimistic and excited bunch.

I pick State to win because I believe the players have to have the same attitude. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t have come to State in the first place.

Also, I second what mississippibulldawg in his conclusion.

  26. tebmsu97 Says:

Shmuley, I agree that Auburn didn’t move the ball that well against Vandy in the second half, but I don’t think it was Vandy making adjustments. Look at the play breakdown, for some reason Auburn went awat from the run. I forget which back, he is the bigger one (not Lester I believe), had 80 yrds on 20 carries in the first half. Early on in the 4th he only had 1 carry. If you are pounding it down someones throat, why go away from that?

Our offense showed some spark against LSU and I think Vandy is ripe for the picking. OM should have beaten them and Aub had every chance in the world. It seems that Lee can provide us with enough offense, if the D can tighten back up some. I like the defensive switch as well as the idea of keeping AD in the game, if he can get on a roll look out. Call me Mr. Maroon Glasses, but I think the Dawgs get a much needed win this weekend.

    State 20
    Vandy 14

  27. msudawginbama Says:

shmuley, i had the (mis)fortune of watching the aubie-vandy game with a pile of auburn fans. auburn didnt have any second half offense, but that’s b/c they were trying to force the pass to work. vandy didnt “adjust” into it, auburn commited offensive suicide. much like wxxdy has done with state’s offense. just trying to make a point that vandy looked vulnerable to the run. its the only vandy game i’ve watched start to finish, and they’re good, but that may be a chink in the armor…

Hey Olemiss1581, I noticed you didn’t show your ugly face here until your team had the week off. Guess that loss to USC as I predicted is still a sore topic.

What does your MASCOT look like again? Oh yeah you don’t have one, KFC called and asked for their Colonel Sanders uniform back. Guess you will have to just display your Rebel Flags…oops no flag sticks allowed, someone my get poked in the eye by one of your drunk stumbling in-coherent fans.

1581 is a guy on the rebel bandwagon right now. Probably be a bama fan by year end.

  38. nashdawg Says:

Miss. State – 17 (due to someone else calling the plays besides McCorvey, otherwise, State scores 3)

Vandy – 16 (held down to the play of Pegues roaming the defensive back field)

  39. deaddawg1 Says:

I believe Brad is just being realistic with his prediction, unlike some of us.
If we get the breaks, we WIN, if Vandy gets them, we LOSE. Expect no help from the sideline. Vandy – 17 MSU – 14

  40. Brad Locke Says:

My prediction is predicated on the same philosophy that I used when I covered high schools. I vowed never to pick against South Panola until someone actually beat them and snapped the streak. So, until MSU actually beats a legit D-I team …

  41. Jimmy Barbee Says:

Predictions: Regardless, who we think logically and probably will most likely win a game involving our team, it is our responsibility as fans and supporters to support our team and stand by them giving them that applaud. I have been an Ole Miss supporter for something like 58 years. Seen some might good football years in the 1950’s and 60′, then things started to slip a bit. But I never gave up on them and never will. I was born a Rebel and will die a Rebel. I am a Miss State supporter when the Rebels are not involved. Miss State Baseball and Basketball programs rate the best nationally. They are winners. Your football team is going thru a little confusion now, but stick with them. My prediction is that they will beat Vandy by a score some where about 17 to 14. Good luck, JB

  42. cnd46 Says:

JB, I like the profile picture. I will go MSU-21 Vandy-14

south alabama shrimp boil for the game! if they lose, still got good food!

  44. Brad Locke Says:

That’s the spirit, msudawginbama. But it would taste better after a win.

  45. db33 Says:

Sudden optimism? Brad, here’s why. Don’t believe the hype on Vandy. Why? Because they are exactly like us last year, except WORSE. We had the 5th ranked defense in the conf. last year, this year they just climbed out of the cellar last week, up to 11th. Offensively, they are DEAD F LAST. Which is saying something considering that’s normally OUR spot.

Vandy wins by getting the key pick, the key fumble, and you cannot plan to win that way week in week out. At some point those plays won’t come and you have to just man up and win. They might be able to do it today, but I don’t see it.

Our players have had 2 weeks to get ready. They are starving for a win. Vandy had Corso, Herbie, & Gameday on campus, they beat Auburn for the first time in forever, just like OM’s win over FL, they’ve been in the clouds all week.

It won’t be easy, but it’ll be convincing. Tyson Lee has another impressive outing. Dixon goes over 100.

    Dogs 28-13.

  46. db33 Says:

However, if we find a way to lose, especially if it’s in heartbreaking fashion, that’s it. Season over. I think they will fold the tent. 1-11 will be highly possible. The entire season rests on today’s outcome. IMHO.

  47. joekstewart Says:

Coming off the bye week, you got to favor that.

    MSU- 17
    Vandy- 9

Corso and Herbie picked State, got to go with the paid expects
