It’s in the books: Georgia 64, MSU 60

The Georgia Bulldogs found themselves in an unlikely situation . . .

In the finals of the SEC tournament on Sunday against Arkansas.

UGA punched its ticket after stunning Mississippi State 64-60 in the semifinals on Saturday.

See ya in the NCAA tournament.

Most colossal choke job I have ever witnessed. I will never say I am embarrassed to be a State fan but this is as close as it’s gotten.

    Later guys.

Stans should give back a months worth of pay for not beating a team that had to play twice. I could see if they just flat out beat us, but when our team looks so pathetic, it’s insane. I’m pretty much under the impression that we will win the West some years, but we will never be a threat in March…bottom line

  4. tupelopixdotcom Says:

They didn’t stun us, they played basketball. I don’t know what we were playing.

  5. dawgbones Says:

A lot of folks on here have complained about us not getting respect particularly on ESPN. The reason is we have an extremely weak game coach. Why not come out pressing a tired team? Why not stay in the zone since during the 4 Ga possessions we did it, we got stops? Why not call a timeout to set a last play. Stansbury ended the game with at least 3 time outs in hand. Use those down the last 2 minutes to settle your team down and set a play on offense. Horrible coaching as usual particularly when it comes to tournament time. Stansbury will never win the big games in a tournament because coaching counts then more than ever.

  6. warbirdz44 Says:

I’ve been saying this all season and have been criticized for it. He is a terrible tournament coach and unless we just have freak nasty NBA talent one season, he will never get us to the sweet 16.

  7. dc31 Says:

Did wonders for the RPI, they had a losing record

  8. dadawg Says:

I would like to vent some on this board, but when you have followed the DAWGS as long as I have, you just kinda get used to it. I just don’t know what to say. Should we have pressed on defense and should we have pushed the ball up court on offense? Our players looked scared or nervous the entire game. What’ s up with that? I don’t know what but this doesn’t bode well for the NCAA’s.

  9. warbirdz44 Says:

I have taken craps that looked better than us tonight.

I’m just glad I was on the phone with my daughter at the end of the game. Made it much easier to swallow when I couldn’t lash into a tirade about what a no good SOB BS is.

  11. maxdawg Says:

I Just got back from G Tech High. Started to watch it in the restaurant of the hotel we were in. Just thought I would try to get in the game.

  12. dc31 Says:

Before making travel arrangements for next weekend just want to know from Ben, Barry, and Jamont what kind of mood they will be in. Every year the NCAAs boil down to guard play and this year will be no different

  13. maxdawg Says:

Begged and pleaded to get in to lose to Georgia Tech.

  14. maxdawg Says:

Hung out with Kentucky guys all week-end and thought it was a bad call on the end for them and didn’t understand the one on us either? What happened?

  15. db33 Says:

Unbelievable. One of the worst coaching jobs ever. You’re playing against a team that is playing again 6 hours after playing an emotional OT game! You’re playing against a team that isn’t deep. And, what do we do? Why, we walk it up the court. We play with NO URGENCY WHATSOEVER.

We should’ve opened the game in a full court press. We should’ve played man defense the entire game, suffocating man defense. Instead we let them basically walk it up and burn 25 seconds every trip down, allowing them to REST.

Then, we get them in foul trouble, and don’t take advantage. We don’t go to the post. How does Bliss get FOUR first half fouls, and not foul out??? Jackson had 3 at the half, played the entire 2nd half just about, and doesn’t foul out.

    I think we’re looking at a 9 or 10 seed, maybe an 11.

  16. maxdawg Says:

Did you hear what they called the technical for?

  17. dc31 Says:

Definitely planted a seed in the committee’s mind

  18. maxdawg Says:

we may be looking at the game from home if all of these upsets keep happening.

  19. dc31 Says:

Rhodes said something similar to what the UGA player did to pick up his fourth (Bliss)

  20. maxdawg Says:

Rhodes need to shoot the ball and not his damn mouth.

  21. maxdawg Says:

    Not a Stansbury fan?

  22. db33 Says:

Not tonight max. Pitiful gameplan. Maybe he thought it would be cruel to take advantage of a team that had already played a game, I don’t know. But, to not push the ball, to not get into their legs, to basically slow the game down and allow them to rest, was just downright inexcusable.

We played, and coached, like all we had to do was show up to win. That’s on RICK.

  23. maxdawg Says:

    You are so right!!!!!

  24. carwwest Says:

that was pathetic!….jackson and bliss both had 4 fouls EARLY in the game and we dont even challenge them!!….and since when is our offense a one pass and throw up a prayer for a 3??….i am usually a stans fan but that was terrible…..has anybody else wondered who can play for barry stewart??….i seriously doubt he is one of the top five players on the team….anyways, what ever happened to benock? he has the sweetest stroke on the ball ive ever seen…i imagine he could go 3 for 14…

  25. tupelopixdotcom Says:

    I agree db33.

  26. ericintupelo Says:

First time Ive logged in tonight and I almost didn’t because this loss hurts bad and there really is no excuse for it. I think I speak for a lot of people when I thought state was a lock for the championship game tomorrow and a well coached team would be there but the problem was coaching and I have to question why our boys weren’t up for the challenge. No press on D and no sense of urgency on the offensive side. I like Stans but there is no excuse for tonight and I just hope this game serves as a wake up call for us and maybe just maybe pushes us to step it up in the Big Dance but we couldn’t even get hyped for a semi-final game in the SEC tournament.

  27. ericintupelo Says:

I also don’t see why we didn’t attack inside on their post players and force them to foul out. Rhodes was one on one with Bliss many times and the tech was horrible and I hate that a ref would call that with only 7 seconds left and not let the players decide, but all in all a dumb play by a senior

  28. thespear Says:

weak gameplan, weak offensive execution, and weak coaching down the stretch.

Why didnt Stans call a timeout when we had the ball with a chance to take the lead? By what the game reset said, i think we had at least two or three timeouts! I dont see how Stans has that much confidence to trust Gordon to find the basket himself. JG had me pullin my hair out.

All I am sayin is when you call a timeout and draw something up, you give yourself a better chance to win. Poor decisions down the stretch from Stans and Rhodes! Pathetic, hope they can get up for the dance after that one

  29. ericintupelo Says:

O and you knew Gordon was gonna shoot the last shot because he feels he has to and I know Barry was open on the left wing as much as everyone hates him and Ben had a little room on the right. Gordon is a hell of a ball player but he’s not the team and I know he said this is prolly his last year but he won’t get drafted. Poor ball handling skills and poor decision making for a point, too slow and not a great jumper as a shooting guard and too small for the forward position.

  30. thespear Says:

I have never seen a team with so much potential play so poorly.
This really could be a final four team but will fall in the first or second round if they dont step up their play. I hope Stans realizes he has to tighten up the reigns on Gordon and inspire the rest of the team. They didnt get up for this one and Im not sure why

  31. boonevilledawg Says:

why in the hell didnt we press them from the get go. I know it might be out of our element but they did play an entire game plus ot hours earlier. We did nothing but sit in a two three zone and let them beat us…………….. unaggressive, overconfident, poor shooting, uninspired poorformance I have seen in quite a while. The tourney was ours for the taking but apparently we didnt want it.

  32. boonevilledawg Says:

In my opinion and my opinion only, which doesnt count at all, this was a coaching loss. This loss is on Stansbury.

  33. nashdawg Says:

Anyone have a replacement in mind for Stans?

I must say that I agree with the opinion of everyone here. Stans just can’t seem to get a grasp on game play-offensively & defensively to exploit the weaknesses of the opposing team, like tonight. History tells everybody that.

  34. nashdawg Says:

Personally, I like Coach Stans & even more so, Coach
Kirby. It’s just disheartening to watch a great team not play even close to their potential.

  35. thingreenline Says:

Stans has never been a game coach, and if he hasn’t learned how to by now, he never will. The last time I argued his lack of skills, I got bombarded with “he’s the all-time wins coach.” Well, our all-time wins coach couldn’t coach a win against a team that just played a freaking game hours before. It’s almost comical. Well, it is to everyone but us.

But, you can’t just blame Stans for this one. I bet the players thought they could walk through this one and ease into the final game. Whatever Rhodes said must have been bad, and it was a terrible move considering it took any shot of going into OT away from us. And, for the love of God, did anyone think Jamont wouldn’t shoot the ball if he touched it with seconds to go? If he wants to be on Sportcenter so bad, he should have majored in communication/broadcasting because he sure as hell won’t be on there after his MSU tenure.

I remember gripping after we played Georgia at home that we don’t push the ball up the court like we probably should.

Don’t act suprised when we don’t make it to any Sweet 16, even though we have the potential. I’m expecting one and out.

  36. rwriffe Says:

I agree that this game could have been better coached but the blame lies on the players more than anyone. The last couple of games they have played with a cocky look of “oh well if they make a run we can just stretch a lead back out on them anytime we want”. To be honest this team is just good and not great. They need to play with more effeciency and act as though taking care of the ball means something.

  37. rwriffe Says:

By the way, the 2 game in 12 hours deal wasn’t a big deal. These guys have done this before in the aau’s and such. Not as big a deal as some are making it out to be. An advantage I agree but not so much when so much is on the line. I was afraid of this game from minute one. It set up for such a good story and gave GA the motivation and gave our team a “hey we got this” attitude. Bad, Bad combination.

  38. carwwest Says:

i think it was just a lazy gameplan and lazy execution….i am still a stans fan but he did lose us the game…..but i would also like to know what is wrong with barry and ben….the last 2 games they are combined 18 of 72 (25%)…if they are are shooting guards and they are shooting that poorly something is wrong…..

  39. Tom Says:

You’ve put your finger on the problem. It is not Stanbury’s supposed poor game coaching, it’s poor shooting from the perimeter. You are not going to win if you can’t knock down more than 24% of your 3 pt attempts.

Should we have pressed more? Yes. Barry shot the 3 ball well last night, but he shot everything else poorly. Stans tried bringing in the reserves to knock down the perimeter shot, but they were a collective 0-4.

You got to be able to shoot. Bottom line. Thank the Lord we we’ve hit free throughs as of late or we’d have lost against Bama and the UGA game would not have been close.
