Standout Tupelo quarterback Chris Garrett has decided he wants to play his college football at LSU.
He informed Tigers coach Les Miles of his decision on Wednesday morning.
“He’s been praying about it for weeks, and he thinks this is what’s best for his future and career,” his father, David Garrett told me this morning. “It’s tough for him, because he’s been a Mississippi State fan his entire life. He loves Coach Croom and the staff, but just feels LSU is what’s best for his future and chance to play in the NFL.”
He went on to say how tough it’s been for the entire family, especially considering Chris’ older brother is already at Mississippi State.
Garrett committed to MSU last October and has since received five other offers, including Ole Miss, Florida State, Nebraska and Colorado. And like he originally planned to do at Mississippi State, Garrett will enroll at LSU in January of 2009.
“I just don’t want people to think he’s not a man of his word,” David Garrett said. “He really struggled with the decision. He committed to State when he was 16, but when other opportunities began to open, he realized LSU was the right fit. Again, you can’t imagine how tough it’s been.”

LITTLE BASTARD!
March 26, 2008 at 10:39 am |
Well, tell his dad he raised a lying little prick. Maybe his dad reads the blog.
March 26, 2008 at 10:40 am |
So he prayed about it and God told him to go to a huge party school where it is generally accepted to drink OJ and Vodka at morning classes?
All kidding aside, I wish him the best, but I would have liked to see him at MSU.
March 26, 2008 at 10:40 am |
His dad does the read this blog. Now farley, have you never changed your mind before on a major issue?
March 26, 2008 at 10:41 am |
Had to be a tough decision. I tailgate right next to his parents. He attends games as well. This kind of reminds me of Henig’s family. I just hope he doesn’t have to sit on the bench like the Baldwyn kid who went to Georgia.
March 26, 2008 at 10:42 am |
Well if that isn’t the biggest bag over the head, punch in the stomach……
I guess the Z71’s flow like honey in Baton Rouge.
March 26, 2008 at 10:43 am |
good, i’m glad that’s over with. croom’s gonna do this thing whether chris is here or not. and riding the bench in red stick isn’t gonna get you to the nfl chris. ask ryan perrilloux. he got so bored with his immense talent being wasted at a school where they hav 4 5* qbs at any time he started breaking the law to pass the time.
March 26, 2008 at 10:44 am |
Once I gave someone my word, no I have not. If there was any doubt, he shouldn’t have committed to State. It’s like all of our other big time recruits, he took the easy way out. Instead of helping build something, he’s going to go somewhere else where he’ll have to hope the Head isn’t lying to him. No matter how you try to spin it for him and his father, he lied to Croom and the Bulldog nation.
March 26, 2008 at 10:44 am |
“The Move” just got pulled on MSU.
March 26, 2008 at 10:45 am |
GG, farley’s entire life is a major issue. All those personalites always have something going on.
March 26, 2008 at 10:46 am |
Yes, but we don’t lie to each other. We all make the decision together and don’t lie to people.
March 26, 2008 at 10:47 am |
This is the quote that bothered me:
“I just don’t want people to think he’s not a man of his word,” David Garrett said.
If here were…wouldn’t he be coming to Starkville in January?
March 26, 2008 at 10:47 am |
“the move”
http://www.ihos.com/steakhouse.html
March 26, 2008 at 10:48 am |
Farley, I just don’t see it as lying. Again, this is just the nasty part of recruiting. And again, it’s 16, 17-year-old kids we’re talking about.
March 26, 2008 at 10:48 am |
Can’t blame him. Although, it’s hard to imagine that he turned down our high powered offense.
March 26, 2008 at 10:50 am |
Can’t blame him. Although, it’s hard to imagine him turning down our high powered offense.
March 26, 2008 at 10:51 am |
So, telling a coach that you are coming to his school because you’ve always wanted to wear the maroon and white, then getting an offer from a “better school” and then backing out on your original commitment to go somewhere else isn’t lying? Yeah, ok.
March 26, 2008 at 10:54 am |
i’m bothered by this because him and his parents knew what the word committment means to croom. some might not. they did.
March 26, 2008 at 10:56 am |
oh well, you are either with us or against us. Theres no way that kid was a true state fan, I unlike most people really like LSU. Nothing comes close in my heart I our beloved school and Dawgs, and there is no way I would turn down the chance to play for the Maroon
March 26, 2008 at 10:56 am |
I don’t, sorry. I agree he probably shouldn’t have committed, but at the time he thought that was right.
You all can argue this all you want. I’m outta here. Haven’t had a day off in weeks, so, I’m off.
March 26, 2008 at 10:57 am |
Well, I’m sure he’s a good kid, but he’s a lying good kid.
March 26, 2008 at 11:04 am |
There’s no doubt they are huge dawg fans Ima.
March 26, 2008 at 11:07 am |
They’ll have to don the eu de corndog now Draws.
March 26, 2008 at 11:08 am |
There’s no way he will ever see the field at a school like LSU. Hope he doesn’t get too many splinters in his ass riding the pine
March 26, 2008 at 11:09 am |
I don’t think they’ve missed a game in several years. We’ll see now.
March 26, 2008 at 11:10 am |
Come on Gregg. Your life is one big vacation. You’ve been to exotic locations recently like the Georgia Dome, Georgia Tech, North Little Rock Arkansas, and a bunch of swanky hotels. Just because you spent 2 or 3 minutes spitting out those in-depth articles, you think you need a day off.
March 26, 2008 at 11:12 am |
So, Gregg Ellis is basically saying this kid and his family couldn’t ask themselves a simple hypothetical question before committing….”If I am offered by the championship team after I make this committment to Croom will I still want to be at State?” If the answer was…”hmmm…maybe not” then you flat out don’t commit.
March 26, 2008 at 11:15 am |
I can’t say that I blame Chris for what he has done. Still, I’m not sure what he thinks LSU and Miles are going to do for his NFL stock. I’m trying hard to remember a bona fide NFL QB that has come out of Baton Rogue.
I am also of the opinion that keeping your word is a lost priority in our culture. One thing my dad taught me early on is to be very careful of what I say and what I commit to do. Chris will learn this lesson, I’m sure, but I wish it didn’t have to come at our expense.
Facing the facts, folks: no high school QB with aspirations of championships and statistics would choose MSU right now. Family loyalty isn’t trustworthy, either. We will have to make due with what we have and defy the odds from the bottom up.
March 26, 2008 at 11:17 am |
This is really disheartening news. We dont’ know good Garrett would’ve really been at MSU, but we’ll never be able to sign an elite QB that will take our program beyond the mediocre level (and that’s generous), if we couldn’t get this one. Seriously, how many QBs of Garret’s caliber have been born and raised Dawgs? Further, assuming arguendo that there’s been a few, how many of their families were as supportive and actively involved in MSU athletics as Garret’s? We’re not talking about any passive or fair weather fans here. For Christ’s sake, his dad is the local chairman of an organization that’s purpose is to facilitate success in MSU athletics.
And on that note, how does pops expect people to donate money for the cause when he and his son don’t even see it as the right fit for him? And boy that’ll really help us sell MSU to other recruits.
Nobody that loves MSU goes to play for another school, especially an SEC West school, so don’t give me that. I understand they’re most interested in his future. If they feel LSU is in his best interest, then that’s what he should do, but either commit or don’t. It’s bad enough not getting the kid to State, but for him to commit and decommit is just a slap in the face. So what if he was only 16, his parents should never have allowed this to happen.
March 26, 2008 at 11:19 am |
“I’m trying hard to remember a bona fide NFL QB that has come out of Baton Rogue. ”
Well…there is that one guy who plays for the Raiders maybe?
March 26, 2008 at 11:20 am |
I think its hilarious how “he prayed about a lot.” What a coincidence that God ‘lead’ Garrett to a team that just so happened to win the National Championship this past year instead of a team with a Coach as morally upstanding as Croom. Its funny how in the south people think that if they say “well i prayed about it a lot and this is where i think God wants me to be” then it is totally acceptable. I’m not questioning Garett’s faith, but i think its a crock of sh*t. I hope he sits on the bench for 4 years straight and never touches the field.
March 26, 2008 at 11:22 am |
Jamarcus Russell is not a bona fide NFL QB. He may be one day, but I seriously doubt it. Anyone who is 6’7″ and can throw the ball 90 yards is going to be drafted on potential, but being a first round pick doesn’t equate to success. He will languish with the Raiders for a little while, but will ultimately ride out the same fate as the Todd Marinovich’s and Ryan Leaf’s of the world.
March 26, 2008 at 11:24 am |
Come here to really bash the new corndog

March 26, 2008 at 11:26 am |
Furthermore, i get so tired of saying “he’s only 16” or “he’s only 17.” Thats shit too. I vividly remember being totally competent of making important decisions when i was that age. The bottom line is, when it came down to it, Garett could talk the talk, but he couldn’t walk the walk. Being State fans, im sure he and his family were disappointed to see highly touted recruits in Miss. leave for greener pastures. Then he turns around and does the exact same thing.
March 26, 2008 at 11:26 am |
bart04, I agree on the irony there, but I don’t see the point in hoping he fails. Unless we have been in his position we cannot pass judgment, imo.
March 26, 2008 at 11:29 am |
Anyone that expected him to sign with us is a fool. He’s “supposedly” one of the top QBs in the nation. Watch LSU’s offense. Then watch our “offense.” Which one would you rather play for if you’re supposed to be a legitimate, big time QB with NFL hopes someday? I know if it were me, I certainly wouldn’t want to play for Croom & Woody’s cluster of an offense that can’t break the top 100 in 4 effing years.
March 26, 2008 at 11:32 am |
If Jay Cutler can get to the NFL from Vandy, it can be done from MSU as well.
March 26, 2008 at 11:33 am |
I began “The Move.”
For those women who may be reading this, let me take a moment to explain “The Move.” Men know exactly what their bowels are up to at any given second. And when the time comes to empty the cache, a sequence of physiological events occur that can not be stopped under any circumstances. There is a move men make that involves simultaneously approaching the toilet, beginning the body turn to position ones ass toward said toilet, hooking ones fingers into ones waistline, and pulling down the pants while beginning the squat at the same time. It is a very fluid motion that, when performed properly, results in the flawless expulsion of shit at the exact same second that ones ass is properly placed on the toilet seat. Done properly, it even assures that the choad is properly inserted into the front rim of the toilet in the event that the piss stream lets loose at the same time; it is truly a picture of coordination rivaling that of a skilled ballet dancer.

I am really disappointed to hear this. I have watched Chris grow up down the street from me. I know his family is deeply committed to MSU, but I am sure David and his wife wanted Chris to make this decision.
There are no sure things in the minds of 17 year olds. I have one and I know this to be true. Hell, my son was even thinking about going to that Oxford school for a time.
Even Chris’s decision to go to LSU is probably not a sure thing. Who knows? I know one thing, I have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, hearing this news.
March 26, 2008 at 11:42 am |
It might be that the Move is about to happen dadawg.

March 26, 2008 at 11:49 am |
I’ve seen him play several times. It’s not that big of a loss. Personally, I think that if State can sign Dionte Payne and Chad Bumphis out of Tupelo, they’ll be doing a lot better. Let Chris go the route of Blake Barnes. Ask the Baldwyn standout how going out of state worked out for him. What’s really sad is how little our high school football players regard their future. What if football doesn’t work out? Go to an in-state school and you’ll be making great contacts for life. Go out of state and your contacts are useless if you come back to Mississippi.
March 26, 2008 at 12:00 pm |
My question os, if Chris gets hurt this year at THS, will Miles honor his commitment. Croom would.
March 26, 2008 at 12:01 pm |
South Panola Dawg=assclown
March 26, 2008 at 12:09 pm |
This is pathetic guys. Most of you are grown adults and you are bashing a 17 year old kid because he didn’t choose your school. Grow up! I’ve been a State fan my whole life but frankly, if I had to choose between State and LSU to pursue my football and academic careers, I’d choose LSU. More money is put into that program. You know that you’ll get the exposure each and every week. You know that you’ll get the necessary facilities and coaching deserved. Hell, at our school, we’re constantly worried if our coaches will leave for money. The main thing they’re worried about is if they’re coaches will take HEAD coaching jobs elsewhere. LSU is a better program than what we have and I don’t blame Chris one bit for going there. You guys should just grow up and get over it.

March 26, 2008 at 12:32 pm |
Sorry Mr. Garrett (roastbeef1), but it sounds like he got talked into going to a better program with hopes of going to the NFL, only to find out there’ll be 1-2 other QB’s there just as good or better than him. Then, his butt will be on the bench, providing moral support to a better program, wishing he went somewhere he’d be able to actually play.
Of course Les Miles said anything to get him awaw from MSU. Why let a team in the SEC West build momentum when you can take away a key “committment?”
Traitor.
March 26, 2008 at 12:36 pm |
I’ve talked to a coach who was on the opposite sideline from him, and he said he was a very “raw” talent. Not sure if that was his way of sugarcoating, but I don’t think he was too impressed.
March 26, 2008 at 12:38 pm |
Watch out, bigdraws, Mr. Garrett might get mad again for talking unrespectfully about a 17 year old boy. We have to wait until he gets on the college field, when he’s 18, to do that.
March 26, 2008 at 12:40 pm |
Well, if he’s going to play for LSU, he better get used to criticism a lot worse than this.
March 26, 2008 at 12:41 pm |
i have and will be a state fan till the day i die but this move doesnt surprise me at all…..as soon as LSU and other top teir schools started recruiting him, you could tell in his interviews that he probably wasnt going to come here…..especially when he changed his solid to a “soft” commit……i am disheartened that we didnt get him but im not going to hold it against him to where i hope he fails…..i do think the hat tricked told him whatever he wanted to hear which is what a lot of college coaches do…..i was heavily recruited by memphis, ole miss, MTSU, and alabama and pretty much they all told me exactly what they thought i wanted to hear and for a high school kid, it was hard to seperate the real $hit from the bull$hit……one thing that i do see now though is our chances of getting bumphis greatly diminished, he’ll probably go out of state also now…..i do believe that if we can keep winning games and bowl games, we will recieve a lot more interest from better athletes…..but offensively we are going to have to fire woody because nobody wants to come play for an “O-ffensive” offense…..especially QBs…..
March 26, 2008 at 12:44 pm |
And why does the “I want to go to the NFL” crap make a difference??
For God’s sake, Eli went there from Ole Piss! Well, Eli got drafted b/c of his last name, but you get my point.
I guess no MSU players have ever played in the NFL…… Look at where guys in that league came from; it ain’t all from major conference schools.
Bottom line: The Garretts bought into some of the most obvious recruiting talk ever.
Hey Garretts, I’ve got some awesome ocean-front property in NE MS, want to buy some?
March 26, 2008 at 12:47 pm |
How do you figure Eli only got drafted because of his last name? He just won the Super Bowl. Must be something there besides last name.
March 26, 2008 at 12:48 pm |
Hey TGL maybe you can break down the advantages of going to State over LSU.
March 26, 2008 at 12:51 pm |
What did I say that wasn’t true? If you expected Garret to choose MState over LSU, you are a fool. A program that goes 10-2 every year or a program that *might* win 6 or 7 under the current regime, and that’s if you’re lucky. A team with lots of talented players around you to keep you upright and throw the ball to or a team with some decent players that will only keep you upright some of the time (since you have no mobility) and WRs incapable of getting separation with bricks for hands? A program that gets multiple players drafted on the first day every year or a program that gets a first day player maybe once ever 2-4 years if we’re lucky? Offensive coaches that can effectively develop players and mix up the playcalling or offensive coaches that thought Money Mike was the answer at QB and are among the most conservative in all of college football? It’s no real choice. So who’s really the assclown? And after seeing Garrett play, I’m not convinced he’s the elite QB everyone thinks. He’s immobile, not very accurate, nor has a cannon for an arm.
March 26, 2008 at 12:52 pm |

March 26, 2008 at 12:58 pm |
Oh, please Mr. Nate, don’t go back to your old ways and find my phone number and stalk me. I’m sorry I ruffled you feathers.
Face it, if Eli wasn’t a Manning, he wouldn’t be in the position he is. It’s a fact of life. That, and you’re a tool.
March 26, 2008 at 12:59 pm |
How many 5 star athletes do not live up to there hype and how many under the radar players overachieve and make the so called experts look like idiots. You never know what to expect. If you guys didn’t want the Garrett kid you would not be so pissed off about his choice.
The day Scotty Hopson announces his choice they will have to put fans like you on suicide alert.
March 26, 2008 at 1:01 pm |
Chris “Benedict Arnold” Garrett. Best wishes from Corn Dog Nation.
Seriously though, the kid’s gotta go where his heart leads him. If I was in his situation I’d do the same, go where I felt like it would benefit me the most down the road. Did he make the right choice? Who knows, only time will tell. Does it suck for MSU fans? Of course, but we’ll find somebody else. Just something else to add to my list of why LSU is hands down my WORST hated school in the SEC.
March 26, 2008 at 1:02 pm |
You haven’t ruffled my feathers I just don’t see what the big deal is the guy made a choice to go to LSU if he sits the bench for 4 years that is his problem but you don’t believe he has any potential so why are you so up in the air about his choice of school.
March 26, 2008 at 1:03 pm |
If Peyton’s last name wasn’t Manning would he be in the same situation he is in now.
March 26, 2008 at 1:11 pm |
Yeah, and if my last name was Bush, I’m sure I wouldn’t have it any better than I do now…….
March 26, 2008 at 1:12 pm |
My bad, you said Peyton on that one. Well, there’s a difference between Peyton and Eli. I actually agree with you on Peyton.
March 26, 2008 at 1:14 pm |
I’m rather surprised by the venom some of you are spewing. Wow!
And I don’t think Eli was the No. 1 draft choice because of his name. Franchises can’t make such decisions based on that. Sorry.
March 26, 2008 at 1:16 pm |
What is the big difference?
How many SEC championships did Peyton win?
How many times did Peyton beat Florida?
How many National Championships did Peyton win?
It doesn’t hurt that Peyton has had 2 of the best recievers in the game the past 6 or 7 years.
March 26, 2008 at 1:17 pm |
Wow Gregg we actually finally agree on something.
March 26, 2008 at 1:18 pm |
Get outta here, day off boy.
March 26, 2008 at 1:20 pm |
Great point carwwest. Honoring ones commitment is the right thing to do. However, I’m not sure many of us would have faired much better if National Championship Schools came knocking on the door. If we are legit 5* recruits, we are probably not going to play for Ole Miss, MS State or USM for that matter – unless our Dad was Archie Manning or something. I’d like to think that when I was 16 or 17 that I would have had the kind of character required to stick to my commitments. Yet, I remember how much my Mom and Dad could count on my word come Friday and Saturday night.
That being said, the young man’s family is mostly to blame. Dad and Mom should never have allowed him to commit to anyone at the tender age of 16. He is there responsibility. Their counsel ought to hold sway. Yet, if I’m his Dad in this situation, I’d stick right by his side and tell him to take the jabs and keep on ticking.
I’m glad he prayed about it. Lets hope it was sincere and not one of those prayers like we sometimes utter after having already made our bad decision and then asking God to bless it — kind of like some folks do when they find their “soul mate”, the woman they were “meant to be with.”
“This woman is perfect for me. She is a Christian. She thinks I’m great. Unlike my wife, she doesn’t mind my annoying habits. I’m her hero. Surely God won’t keep me back from the woman I was meant for. My first wife was a mistake. I’ve prayed about it and I’m going to divorce my current wife and marry the woman of my dreams. I know its going to hurt lots of folks, but, how can they argue with something that God has so clearly blessed?”
Son, just pony up and say “I know that I gave my word to MSU. I know how important it is to be a man of your word. I haven’t arrived at this decision without anguish. At this point in my life its the most difficult and important decision I’ve had to make. I know that I haven’t kept my word to MSU and I’ll have to live with that. I realize how bad this is. Everyone is right to criticize me. I let a lot of people down, especially Coach Croom, whom I greatly admire. But, after having taken a closer look at my options, as difficult as it is for me, I think LSU is the better fit.”
March 26, 2008 at 1:30 pm |
We’ll agree to disagree on that one, Gregg. I bet no one wanted to be the team that passed up on Peyton’s brother and Archie’s son.
Now, I have to get some freakin’ work done.
March 26, 2008 at 1:32 pm |
Although long I agree with you Tom. Personally I would have summed it up as “This sucks for us and he will never live this down with state fans.”
3 years from now when he does actually get off the bench I hope his mobility improves to dodge the flying corndogs and F-Bombs directed at him for not living up to LSU expectations. Have fun with that.
March 26, 2008 at 1:32 pm |
One last thought:
Garrett will be to LSU what Kevin Fant was to MSU – highly touted, but a dud in the end.
March 26, 2008 at 1:46 pm |
Did you honestly think that State fans would have been like, “Aww shucks. The boy should go somewhere where he can come back and beat the dogs**t outta his favorite team. We understand Chris. As long as your happy, we’re happy. We know you’ll always be a Dawg at heart” Mr. Ellis? The hell with that. I say we go roll his yard.
March 26, 2008 at 1:51 pm |
Sorry about the lengthy post. Just had a lot to say. See ya’ll later.
March 26, 2008 at 1:53 pm |
Good post Tom.
March 26, 2008 at 1:54 pm |
Fant was highly touted?
I don’t follow recruiting very much, but I don’t remember him being a big-time guy.
March 26, 2008 at 1:55 pm |
I think we need to change the definition of commitment
March 26, 2008 at 1:56 pm |
That depends on what your deifinition of “is” is.
March 26, 2008 at 2:00 pm |
Whiz?
March 26, 2008 at 2:05 pm |
A couple of things, guys… First off, I completely understand being disheartened at losing a kid I truly think is a top-notch talent – particularly if it might mean losing someone else like Bumphis along the way. I have tremendous respect for Croom and what he’s doing at MSU, but we ARE talking about a 16 year old kid here.
A few factors to consider regarding his decision that you might not know of:
When RP leaves, we will indeed have several talented QB’s on the roster, but NONE with any real game experience, so the starting spot will be wide open. The fact that he’s enrolling in Januray only gives him a greater advantage in that competition.
He will be throwing to elite caliber recievers, be they wide-outs, running backs or tight-ends. That’s a good thing.
LSU’s new OC Crowton is widely regarded as one of the best if nto THE best OC in the nation. Last season in his first year, our offense was crippled with injuries and he still managed to set records for yardage, points, yards per game, points per game, first downs and total number of plays, with pretty much every other category falling in the top 5. Every QB he has ever coached has played in the NFL – and this is from schools like La Tech and Baylor.
And lastly, I know this is one you guys might not like, but its the truth. Croom broke his word first. The Garrets were told when Chris committed that Croom was done at QB – then they find out that AFTERWARDS, he offered a scholarship to Tyler Russell from Meridian… now, I don’t blame Croom for doing what he felt he had to do, but let’s be fair when we’re casting blame and in some cases venom – do we go after the worldly coach or the 16 year old kid for not living up to their part in the ‘bargain’?
At any rate, I wish you guys luck in the upcoming season, and will be cheering for you once more as I did for most of last year.
March 26, 2008 at 2:08 pm |
Was Russell recruited as a QB?
March 26, 2008 at 2:13 pm |
Farley, I understand everyone being upset. Heck, I hate to see the kid leave and go out of State. I just think we could all watch the name calling.
I mean, its not like the first time this has happened, and it certainly won’t be the last.

He was recruited as an ‘athlete’. He wants to be given a shot at QB and Miles and Crowton will absolutely be given that shot, but if it doesn’t take, he absolutely understands that they will still be able to use his skills at WR. This year LSU has the luxury of recruiting a number of players (Brockers and Russel from Texas, Calhoun from Georgia, etc. who can play a number of positions, and since they is no immediate need anywhere, give them the chance to make their mark at their preferred spot.
Any QB who might have some trepidation at competing against Russel should be equally excited at the prospect of throwing TO him. On th eother hand, Garret is being recruited SOLELY at QB and will be an early enrollee – so long as he’s not afraid of competition (and I don’t want a QB who would be), the table’s set for him.
March 26, 2008 at 2:17 pm |
His dad must by a lot of papers.
March 26, 2008 at 2:17 pm |
Well, if daddy don’t want to read it, he shouldn’t have let poor little naive Chris commit in the first place. After all, it’s already been so hard on him having people question that sonny boy is not a man of his word. And yes, I will boo his arse!

Go to hell you corndog eating SOB!
March 26, 2008 at 2:19 pm |
He might as well have committed to Saban.
March 26, 2008 at 2:20 pm |
That’s what I’m talking about farley let it out man.
March 26, 2008 at 2:22 pm |
Uh, by no means was Chris recruited as an athlete. That’s almost funny.
He was recruited as a quarterback and a quarterback only.
March 26, 2008 at 2:23 pm |
Ya’ll are pathetic!!! We’ve lost recruits before, but never whined this much. Can you really blame the kid for wanting to play for a team that is a winner, instead of getting crushed by LSU year after year?
March 26, 2008 at 2:23 pm |
That’s not who I was talking about. Was talking about the kid from Meridian. Not sure how that got lost in translation.
March 26, 2008 at 2:24 pm |
Can you really blame me for asking GG to buy some Fabreeze to get rid of the corndog and coonass funk off this blog?
March 26, 2008 at 2:25 pm |
You guys do whine we just can’t understand that cajun bull**** your speaking

He was recruited as a quarterback and a quarterback only.
——————————————————————-
Sorry – I was responding to the person who asked if Russel Shepard was recruited as a QB. I should have made that clear from the outset – I DO say later in the post that Garret was being recruited SOLELY as a QB, which would give him a bit of an advantage.
March 26, 2008 at 2:26 pm |
Your not speaking cajun braves he don’t understand
March 26, 2008 at 2:26 pm |
LSU fans have no idea how tough it is to be a fan. They get everything handed to them. No idea what is like to have 6 losing seasons in a row. That’s why they have no class or character.
March 26, 2008 at 2:26 pm |
My bad, draws. Just got in from raking yard. Head hurting, nose filled with dust and was trying to scan quickly over the comments.
Now Farley, that was funny.
But what’s really funny is how my LSU friends take exception to the corndog reference. It really bothers them.
March 26, 2008 at 2:27 pm |
Nor do they take baths.
March 26, 2008 at 2:27 pm |
Gregg, I would ask Chris a tough question (by recruiting question standards, which are usually softballs). “According to Scout.com (or use any other recruiting service), since 2007, LSU has signed or has committed three QB’s ranked higher than you coming out of high school. How do you think this will affect your playing time at LSU?”
It seems obvious, but it is a fair question.
March 26, 2008 at 2:29 pm |
I can’t tell if you are talking about Tyler Russell or Jamarcus Russsell above, but Tyler Russell is purely a quarterback. If we can land him, I will be happy. Hate that Garrett pulled the rug out from under us, but I think Russell is better anyway.
March 26, 2008 at 2:30 pm |
You Carnies can pick Garrett up at his front door in your Oscar Meyer Wiener mobile if you’d like. Get him and his family indoctrinated on the Carny culture before January rules around.
March 26, 2008 at 2:31 pm |
My turn to respond about this. Yes I’m pissed about him going to LSU, but it is his decision and his life. But look at the big picture, we have a quarterback in Carroll, who in my humble opinion will become a good quarterback and then Tyson Lee, who gives us a running threat at QB. And I think Relf is the most talented of them all.
March 26, 2008 at 2:31 pm |
rolls around
March 26, 2008 at 2:32 pm |
Oh yeah, Go Braves on Sunday
March 26, 2008 at 2:33 pm |
Where you going Sunday Braves?
March 26, 2008 at 2:33 pm |
Eh, “Corndog” is just something that Auburn fans stole from some big 12 team, but I don’t mind it so much. I figure the more bad nicknames, the better we’re doing.
Look, I like MSU, and I’ll continue to cheer for yall 2nd to LSU, but get a grip.
March 26, 2008 at 2:35 pm |
Having some corndogs and funnel cakes with the Garretts Farley, why?
March 26, 2008 at 2:35 pm |
That’s his day to drive the Oscar Meyer weiner-mobile.
March 26, 2008 at 2:36 pm |
Well I don’t think you will get the same in return and I don’t think anybody cares that you root for MSU 2nd to LSU.
March 26, 2008 at 2:39 pm |
Just wondering. As long as your done with Chris early enough for nate to show him his “Little Colonel Reb.”
March 26, 2008 at 2:41 pm |
He can’t handle it.
March 26, 2008 at 2:44 pm |
It has been an interesting day with Garrett. Pretty soon we’ll probably finish the trifecta in MSU style with Gordon announcing he’s going into the draft and Hopson signing with UT.
March 26, 2008 at 2:46 pm |
Screwing the pooch MSU style!
March 26, 2008 at 2:47 pm |
And the Polkies lose again. That prolly will happen too.
March 26, 2008 at 2:47 pm |
And GG will move to Jackson and they are gonna transfer Veazey to the DJ.
March 26, 2008 at 2:52 pm |
everybody keeps saying relf is “probably” the most talented but he went 6-22 in the scrimmage this week….and i dont know anything about the lee kid except he is short and had a good day throwing but he also had a ball batted for an interception at the line which will continue to happen because he is short…..hopson isnt coming to state, i’ll go ahead and call that one….i hope jamont stays…..this is off subject but has anyone heard about the wilder kid that is a WR? did he play or is he redshirting or what??
March 26, 2008 at 2:54 pm |
He transferred to LSU…..
March 26, 2008 at 2:56 pm |
No. Not going to Jackson. Farley, I’m moving to Oxford so I can work for you. Or, I’m going to the 2thdoc and ask for a job. I can yank a tooth if he needs me too. Or I can spray the water in the most sensitive area of the tooth that hurts the most.
March 26, 2008 at 2:56 pm |
O’Neal Wilder has a nagging hamstring injury. Nothing major, but they are being cautious because he also runs track. He was doing very well, was actually second string, before that. Talked to him in the Chick-Fil-A line the other day. Nice guy. When I told him I expected 30 touchdowns next fall, he smiled and said he would sure give it a try.
We got a steal in O’Neal!!
March 26, 2008 at 2:57 pm |

Ah, heck, farley. I don’t need no stinkin’ hat.

March 26, 2008 at 2:59 pm |
I can do the phone thing.
“Yes, I have a toothache.”
“So. Suck it up. Quit being a pansy. Take Advil.”
Well, better not do that phone thing. I’m not one of great patience.

March 26, 2008 at 3:01 pm |

March 26, 2008 at 3:14 pm |
carrot?
March 26, 2008 at 3:14 pm |
I’m still working at the elementary school. I’m done with my masters degree in December, then I’ll have my own classroom. I want to teach high school, but yes still in the hood, not so bad 🙂
March 26, 2008 at 3:14 pm |
Carroll, crap!
March 26, 2008 at 3:15 pm |
He is funny and very likable. He likes to carry on conversations and poke fun at people. I wouldn’t say he’s cocky. But I could see how that might come across to people, though.
He’s the Charles Rhodes of football. He’s always got a quote and is always willing to talk.
March 26, 2008 at 3:15 pm |
I knew we were an ag school, but now we got vegetables playing QB?
March 26, 2008 at 3:16 pm |
It’s amazing what those AG majors are doing these days.
March 26, 2008 at 3:17 pm |
I love it when he runs for a first down, and then he gets up and drops the ball on the tackler- like here you go
March 26, 2008 at 3:18 pm |
As long as we don’t call him carrot top we are ok
March 26, 2008 at 3:19 pm |
Looks more like Opie Taylor.
March 26, 2008 at 3:20 pm |
I hear they got some goats at the AG school now.

Just ignore Farley. Trust me, he won’t mind, and he’ll probably keep talking anyway!!!!
March 26, 2008 at 3:29 pm |
Pretty much. I’ll just go blast him on another blog. I think I know a place.
March 26, 2008 at 3:30 pm |

March 26, 2008 at 3:31 pm |
nah, that place is full of assclowns.
March 26, 2008 at 3:31 pm |
That would explain alot if he was. Nothing but assclowns abd buttmunches up there.
March 26, 2008 at 3:32 pm |
Garrett shouldn’t have committed, good luck to him trying to get some playing time, reguardless of whatever recruiting promises Miles made
March 26, 2008 at 3:33 pm |
where are all the cotton headed ninny muggins?
March 26, 2008 at 3:34 pm |

But it works this way, too. Except for you, ima.
March 26, 2008 at 3:39 pm |
Ima always is the exception.
March 26, 2008 at 3:41 pm |
yes!
March 26, 2008 at 3:52 pm |
Farley: My man hang in, having a good cold beer and admiring your performance. Appreciate the outstanding achievement award. Will try to keep this up challenge that lies ahead. Brave man, also appreciate your vote of confidence, as well.
March 26, 2008 at 3:54 pm |
Could be worse JB, could have gotten the buttmunch award.
March 26, 2008 at 3:56 pm |
JB, that is a weekly award, so don’t be gloating too long. There are many nominees that could de-throne you in a mere 7 days.
March 26, 2008 at 3:58 pm |
It’s an honor actually. That group of misfits at the “other blog” rarely ever agree on anything.

Garrett Family, I’m really hoping you read this blog. Please accept my apology on behalf of the Mississippi State Family. We were incredibly naive to believe…
a) Your son “always dreamed” of being a Mississippi State Bulldog.
and …
b) Your son actually knew a little bit about the high stakes game of recruiting before he tossed around in his heart and brain the ideas found in the word COMMITMENT.
Thank you so much for the double whammy you just threw on our football coach and program by the very public COMMITMENT then de-commitment then pledge to one of our schools chief rivals. Not only do we lose a 5* commitment, every coach in the SEC we recruit against can point to the fact that a life long fan (your son) was more than willing to break his word to our program. You very well know that this bit of history can and will be used against our program. Not that you would care about that at this point.
Best wishes for the future, and let your son know that the same God who told your son to go to LSU must have contradicted his very own WORD.
“Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” Matthew 5:37

Divisional Recruiting
L$U sees a division rival on the upstart
Notices that upstart is about to sign piece to put them over the hump
L$U takes piece out of upstarts mouth, not to use him, but just so upstart doesn’t gain more strength to beat L$U
Bama, L$U, Auburn are great at divisional recruiting, been doing it for years
I always thought the kid from Louisville, MS was more polished anyway (Russell) Should definitely offer him something now. And Relf may be better than all of them
By enrolling in L$U early with thoughts of playing first 2 years is totally delusional though
March 26, 2008 at 7:03 pm |
You know, I don’t remember you all being so upset a year ago when Robert Elliott, a long-time Ole Miss commit, changed his mind and signed with MSU.
I guess you all don’t like his character either.
OK. I’m done with this subject. It’s time to move on.
March 26, 2008 at 7:04 pm |
The difference, Elliot has better looking hair.
March 26, 2008 at 7:08 pm |
LOL! Good way to end the segment, Farley. Leave it up to you.

[…] Ellis reported on his Daily Journal blog today the standout QB Chris Garrett of Tupelo has committed to play for Les Miles at LSU. This is a […]
March 26, 2008 at 8:28 pm |
Welcome to Death Valley Chris – get ready for the most exciting Saturady nights of your life.
It’s amazing how many MSU folks are worried about your playing time. You’re smart enough to know that in the SEC a team can never have too many QBs or RB’s. I can’t recall in recent memory an LSU QB starting every game of the year. Jamarcus (best QB in the country a year ago) and Matt Flynn split time. Flynn (winning QB of the BCS champs) and Perrilloux split time last year. Perrilloux and Jared Lee will be spliting time next year. You will undoubtedly be splitting time with someone after your redshirt season.
It also amazes me how blogers on this board trashed Eli Manning. Eli went to Ole Miss not because it was Ole Miss but because David Cutcliff was the coach. Cutcliff was Tennesse’s QB coach when Payton was there. Eli felt, with the support of his dad and brother, that Cutcliff’s offense would give him the best preperation for the pros – and hey made the right decision. It was coincidental that Ole Miss was Archie’s alma mater. To say that Eli was drafted because his last name was Manning is pure ignorance.
Hey guys 16 and 17 year olds change their mind more often than they change socks. I am sure Chris was overwhelmed by Coach Croom’s scholarship offer and possibly felt he couldn’t refuse considering his family’s close relationship with MSU. Perhaps after he saw who MSU’s Off. Coordinator was and the offense they run he decided MSU wasn’t the right place for him to be.
Give the kid some slack, prospects decommit every year and it happens to all programs. If you’re going to compete in the big time you’d better get used to it.
March 26, 2008 at 8:30 pm |
Saturady?
March 26, 2008 at 8:33 pm |
If that’s all you have I guess you agree with everything else I said
March 26, 2008 at 8:33 pm |
By night time, farley, that’s how they say it. Just poking fun, lsu4ever. Good post.
March 26, 2008 at 8:36 pm |
I’ve got a ton more corny, but GG asked me to drop it.
March 26, 2008 at 8:38 pm |
We usually arrive on campus on game day at about 7 am for a 7pm game. We grill ribs, sausage, burgers & chicken and kill at least a keg.
We hate televised game because the networks usually want a 1 pm kickoff and that cuts our tailgating time in half.
By game time the only thing we can spell is GEAUX LSU
March 26, 2008 at 8:39 pm |
Sounds like a half assed Grove to me.
March 26, 2008 at 8:40 pm |
Sounds like a good time to me.
March 26, 2008 at 8:43 pm |
My nephew was a freshman at Ole Miss this past year. He really likes the home games but he says it doesn’t compare to 120,000 tailgaters on campus all day for a game that only going to seat about 92,000.
March 26, 2008 at 8:47 pm |
I’ve always said and will always say it, LSU is my favorite place to go for football. Best stadium, best band, nuttiest fans and usually, best football team.
But dang, if it just didn’t smell like corndogs. lsu3ever, where are you from?
March 26, 2008 at 8:50 pm |
Yeah, but the fans won’t throw urine on you or try to pick a fight with a 90,000 old man at OM. They do that at home and away games GG.
March 26, 2008 at 8:51 pm |
or 90 year old man.
March 26, 2008 at 8:53 pm |
I was digging the 90,000 old man. Larry King kept coming to mind.
March 26, 2008 at 8:58 pm |
I live just west of New Orleans. Born and raised in New Orleans. I’ve been tailgateing at LSU for over 35 yrs. I started with my dad and uncles, later with my cousins and two sons who graduated from LSU.
The only LSU SEC road games I’ve been to were at Auburn (great college football atmosphere) and Ole Miss when they used to play the Ole Miss – LSU games in Jackson.
My tickets are in a section where they sell visitor’s tickets. I’ve always enjoyed meeting and talking to other SEC team’s fans at games. Everybody has a good time.
March 26, 2008 at 9:00 pm |
Wow, a decent LSU fan. I didn’t know you guys existed lsu!
March 26, 2008 at 9:04 pm |
OK, guys. I’m out. Law & Order fan.
March 26, 2008 at 9:04 pm |
Later GG.
March 26, 2008 at 9:05 pm |
Every stadium has it’s share of A**holes. Some more than others, my cousin and his wife had to leave Bryant Stadium in Tuscloosa under police escort after his wife was punched out by a local good ‘ole boy after LSU scored a touchdown.
My cousin was a DT at LSU in the early 70s and he sent some bodies flying before the police told him it would be better if he just left the game.
At LSU, at least the student section isn’t in the upper decks
March 27, 2008 at 12:26 am |
Chris, I don’t care if you buy what this LSU fan is telling you. Believe whatever you want.
Just put MSU in your rearview mirror, because we’re finished with you.
Coach Croom needs high character student athletes to take us where we’re going.
That doesn’t include lying, selfish, people like yourself.
You’ll forever be remembered as the person that did his best to destroy what Coach Croom was building.
Too bad the only thing being destroyed is your career.
But hey, at least you can buy strawberry daiquiris in drive-thrus and gamble in the convenience stores on every corner.
March 27, 2008 at 1:58 am |
Will the Dawgs ever learn? Golden Wave QB’s are heartbreakers!! Kirk Presley went to the METS. Todd Jordan came, turned out to be a good punter. STANSBURY thinks counting on Garrett was a great recruiting idea (see: Bender, Outlaw, Hopson?)
March 27, 2008 at 7:25 am |
Like I said on the other blog, Are you trying to say that you’d pass up $1M to go to MSU? I don’t think so.
March 27, 2008 at 10:07 am |
I can’t believe what I’m reading, the people that are leaving bad comments obviously don’t have a life!!! To say that Chris and his parents are anything but good descent people is shameful!! Do any of you know them?? I do!!! This is what is wrong with sports today, too much politics, this is a person, not a piece of meat for everybody to fight over like “bulldogs” pon intended!!! I’m glad Chris found out before he signed with MSU just what some of the so called fans are all about, Chris is still only 16 and shouldn’t have to be subjected to this so called grownup world!!! I wish you all the luck and good health in whatever you do in life Chris!!!! God bless you and your family!!!
March 28, 2008 at 6:40 pm |
It happens at every school, Deb. Get used to it. You lose some punk to a divisional school after he supposedly “committs” to your school, and you’re gonna get ticked off.
I’m sure somewhere there are plenty of folks taking up for Dickie Scruggs, too. Because they know him.
