Mr. Cohen on today’s agenda

At 10 a.m. today, us media scribes will have the opportunity to talk with Kentucky baseball coach John Cohen via the SEC teleconference.

Hum . . . I can’t help but wonder what some of the questons might be.

Unfortunately, his allotted time is limited to just seven minutes, but if the moderator is in a good mood, perhaps we’ll get closer to 10. Chuck, we’re begging?

Anyway, I’m guessing one question is going to be about the soon-to-be vacancy at MSU, where ironically Cohen played.

As soon as our time is over, I’ll post what he has to say. I doubt it will be very much. You all know how politically correct coaches like to be.

I’ve already got the answer to save your time…
“I’m the coach of Kentucky right now, and I’m only concerned about what’s best for my ballclub.”

  2. Gregg Ellis Says:

That’s pretty much what I expect. LOL!

  3. jaybirdms Says:

He’ll probably throw in something like “I don’t discuss other jobs while I have a job”

  4. theconquistador2 Says:

Why aske him questions about the job? We all know who’s going to get it. 😦

  6. Braves Dawg Says:

    Ozzie Guillen?

  7. msu21 Says:

The players want Raffo. I spoke with some of the former players this weekend at Super Bulldog Weekend and they seem to like Raffo. They think he would do a great job and deserves a chance. I personally had rather have Cohen. I could care a less about a smooth transition taking place right now! I’m more concerned with 5 to 10 yrs down the road and establishing a dominant program again. And for that to happen we have to have someone who will recruit their heart out, and I think Cohen fits the bill better than Raffo.

  8. rebelnate Says:

msu21 you are sofa king we todd ed!

  9. msu21 Says:

    Explain yourself rebelnutt…..

  10. rebelnate Says:

“sofa king we todd ed” say that real fast

  11. bigdraws Says:

I’ve heard the same thing 21. And I absolutly agree with you. And Nate got you.

  12. msu21 Says:

Did you come up with all by yourself? Or is that the typical language in the grove on Saturdays and you pawned it off somebody else??

  13. thingreenline Says:

Does Raffo not lend a hand in Polk’s recruiting? If so, I think we know his abilities already.
What’s the chances of MSU actually having a go-out-and-look-for-the-best-available-coach process?
Polk has already had his chance to handpick his successor at MSU. Where is Pat now, anyways?

  14. rebelnate Says:

Yes it is the language of us useless no good rebel fans thanks.

  15. Braves Dawg Says:

  16. imabulldog Says:

If we have to settle with Raffo-we will suck!
I’m actually not a fan of always hiring within the family, sounds like one of those teams we hate……..Oh Yeah-Alabama.

Raffo, not a good idea. Cohen. a great option.

If Raffo wants to coach, go to DII

  17. rebelnate Says:

    Sorry Braves!

  18. imabulldog Says:

Hiring Raffo, would be like hiring a 50-60 year old bat boy because he’s been around a while

  19. Braves Dawg Says:

Your not bothering me Nate. I just like it when Shrek says, Donkey!

  20. Braves Dawg Says:

    Dusty Baker?

  21. thingreenline Says:

Gerry DiNardo. He’s been everywhere else.

  22. rebelnate Says:

    Bobby Cox?

  23. jaybirdms Says:

    Billy Martin?

  24. Braves Dawg Says:

    Lou Pinella?

  25. bigdraws Says:

    Keith Moreland.

  26. Braves Dawg Says:

    George Costanza?

  27. bigdraws Says:

GG’s finding out for us right now. Can’t imagine he’ll get too much valuble information out of him. It’s not like he’s talking to Jose Canseco, jk.

  28. theconquistador2 Says:

My problem with hiring Raffo is that we don’t know if he can be a head coach. He might be a great head coach or me might run the program further into the ground. I don’t think you can take that chance. You’ve got to go after a proven head coach. Majority of coaches in the country would love to coach at MSU.

Coaches naming assistants as their successor doesn’t work out to well a lot of time. A couple of SEC baseball examples…

    1) Burtman naming Lavall. Where has LSU been the last several years?
    2) Auburn’s Hal Baird named Steve Renfroe. Look at Auburn’s success with Baird and with Renfroe. That program is still struggling to recover and Renfroe was gone after the 04 season

  29. bigdraws Says:

Agreed conquistador. They let there relationships get in the way of what is best for the program. Didn’t Polk want McMahon to be his replacement the first time? If he’s gonna retire, then retire. Don’t try to make decisions about what’s gonna happen after you’re long gone. It’s just so frustrating.

  30. theconquistador2 Says:

I forgot about McMahon. He was Polk’s first named successor and look at what he did. He left our program and went to a VERY GOOD Florida team after Andy Lopez went to Arizona. He took Lopez’s players to the CWS as he did with Polks. After that Florida dropped badly and of course he got FIRED!!!

  31. themaroonandwhite Says:

“Does Raffo not lend a hand in Polk’s recruiting? If so, I think we know his abilities already.”

Yeah…he helped recruit that team that went to the college world series last year.

  32. thingreenline Says:

And the same teams that have been owned by UM for the last, what, six years?

  33. bigdraws Says:

And the team that is sub .500 right now.

  34. fun2bmaroon Says:

Jackie Sherrill says he knows a ” thing or two ” about baseball, and says he’s had college coaching experience……I think he would be about as good as Costanza….heh heh heh….

  35. rebelnate Says:

fun2bmaroon step away from the jokes I repeat step away from the jokes.

  36. bigdraws Says:

And your about as funny as Jerry Seinfeld.

  37. fun2bmaroon Says:

“Stepping away” but making noises when I leave…….

  38. fun2bmaroon Says:

And your about as funny as Don Imus……

  39. bigdraws Says:

Took you exactly 2 hrs and 18 minutes. Good comeback though.

  40. fun2bmaroon Says:

    Don was on….sorry…..hehehe…..

  41. bigdraws Says:

    You’re right again….

  42. rebelnate Says:

  43. fun2bmaroon Says:

I’m sorry, Nate, but I disagree with you about that last statement……

  44. rebelnate Says:

  45. fun2bmaroon Says:
