Hey, the sun did rise today

I know some of you feel gloom and doom today, but I did notice the sun rose.

That’s good, right?

You know, I can’t help but wonder, what’s next. Negative, I know.

But I also wonder if Mississippi State was a soap opera, what would it be? As the world turns? Days of our lives? General hospital? Young and the restless?

Or how about CSI: MSU? Law & Order? Falcon Crest? Dallas?

I report, you decide the show. This could make for an entertaining day.

As for today’s lovely reading . . .
* Ben Hansbrough says he is transferring. Dagger!
* Greg Byrne talkes about a national search to find a replacement for Ron Polk.
* Speaking of Polk, is he about to be suspended for being tossed in all three games at Kentucky?

Just curious Gregg, but why can’t players have access to Humphrey Coliseum right now? Is is because graduatin is coming up in another 4 weeks?

  2. Gregg Ellis Says:

Science fairs, job fairs, graduations and things like that.

  3. bigdraws Says:

He answered that on another topic. And GG, I say we’re like Days of out Lives. Polk got possessed by the devil, and got tossed three times last weekend.

  4. bigdraws Says:

Just got an email GG. Road Dawgs are coming to Tupelo. April 29th.

  5. Gregg Ellis Says:

Can you forward that email to me, draws. I heard a couple of weeks ago that was going to happened, but hadn’t seen anything official.

  6. bigdraws Says:

    Coming right up.

  7. bigdraws Says:

Sent it. If you don’t receive please let me know. I had some trouble with some of the icons on it.

I hear that Turner is next on the train out of town. So…. if that happens there are three scholarships open. Does Stansbury fill them this year or carry them over?

  9. bigdraws Says:

    Which Turner?

  10. bigdraws Says:

    Sorry, I was thinking “Johnson”.

  11. msudogsrule Says:

    Everyone makes that mistake….

  12. Braves Dawg Says:

    You thinking about Johnson’s, noooooo.

  13. Tom Says:

Ben can say what he wants, but I think he expects that Jamont will return. And if Dee Bost (boost?) turns out to be as good as we think he’s going to be, Dee will be playing the lion’s share of minutes at the point. Where then will Jamont play? How ’bout the 3. And Ravern showed that he is a solid young player, so what could that mean for Ben? Less minutes.

I truly think that he did not want to be relegated to a 6th or 7th man.

    “As the stomach turns”

Tired of all this crap. Ben can make any excuse he wants, we do need a practice facility but at the same time-you’ve made your decisions well before you play that card. I hope he ends up at Southeastern Central State at Portland of Oregon.
As yall know I wanted Polk gone to begin with, I gave my feelinggs towards him just 2 hrs before he announced his retirement.
And when are our people gonna learn that you should not leave until you have someone else (A person who is actually going to stay, a person who is not just temporary!)
And yes GG, the sun rose and shined bright on the hillsides of rock-chalk here…Oh i forgot Im not in Kansas 🙂

  15. bigdraws Says:

Make the world a better place. Punch a Memphis Tiger in the face.

  16. imabulldog Says:

BAm Bam! Pow! UUhhh! RRRRR! bam! Bam! Kapow! ooooohhhh!
Then kick them while they are down. By the way people in Memphis know very little about sports, its like talking to the studpidest person you’ve ever met, everytime you talk to someone new

I think I’m gonna need counseling, things seem bleak in Starkville. There is still a power struggle since doc’s right hand man McGreevey (aka Radar) still has a powerful position on campus through which doc is working by proxy. This whole deal with interim president, overlapping AD’s, lame duck baseball coach is a freaking mess. I hope Dr. Watson steps up and remedies the campus ills. As for Ben, I’ve heard family issues, but we may never really know. I do know that not being able to practice in the Hump seems like a pretty thin excuse.

  19. Braves Dawg Says:

GG, you finished 7th in the bracket challenge.

A ruler wanted his son to reach the pinnacle of intelligence, and sent his wisest men to collect and phrase the knowledge of the world for these ends. When they returned, the volumes could fill a palace. The ruler then commanded that they condense the information. They returned a year later and had a single volume. The ruler still felt it was too long, and commanded that they condense it further. They returned with a single slip of paper, with a single phrase. It is a phrase that can be used in time of pride, sadness, joy and despair. The phrase is simple and is especially needed for Mississippi State fans …

    This too shall pass

Some one provide an answer…I love MS baseball, but we have never won the world series. Last year was our first time to host a super regional, and we’ve only been to six cws (maybe?)

What makes us better than everyone else?. Fan support and the tradition of DNF. 12 to 14 thousand in the stands. We had to hire Polk back, but we don’t have to hire who tells us to. Polk was great when everyone else did not care about baseball. Now that it is competitive he and Raffo have not done that great. Heck I am jealous of Ole Miss! If we can land someone to go to the next level…great. How can Raffo do it, if has been part of the problem for last 9 years. Polk’s attitude just makes it worse.

  22. bigdraws Says:

    8 cws.

  23. rebelnate Says:

Ole Miss has been to 0 I believe

  24. bigdraws Says:

    2 I think Nate,

  25. rebelnate Says:

Must have been before my day.

  26. coastdawg Says:

Hasn’t Ole Miss hosted superregionals over the past 2-3 years? The stars lined up and Templeton pulled some strings for us last year. Outside of that, we have had no shot at hosting.

Maybe the SEC is just to strong (even LSU has fallen from the glories of the 90s), but I would like to put Ole Miss, Kentucky, and other recent successes back where they belong. I don’t think Raffo can do it.

Ole Miss wen to one CWS back in the 60s (maybe both). But who cares about making it to the CWS and going two and out! To be a truly national job like some folks are saying, we should be more competitive…consistently.

  27. tupelobizbuzz Says:

With the smallest athletic budget in the SEC, there’s only so much you can do, I suppose. Maybe if we had strong leaders all the way around, we could get more alumni with deep pockets to donate more.

You do that, and you get a basketball facility. You get an indoor practice facility that’s better than what we have. You don’t get some things done on the cheap (soccer and softball facilities, for example) that pale in comparison to other SEC schools. You get DNF renovated and expanded. You get a new tennis facility (“one of the finest in the nation, the media guide says – please). I could go on.

I’m a State alum, proud of it, give what I can. But we’re being left behind facilities-wise, trying to play catch-up. We need somebody to inspire the masses. I don’t know if we have that, or will have that.

As for Hansborough – I think he had visions of glory when he saw big brother play, and somebody said “you can do that, too, you know. But not in Starkville, Mississippi.”
For whatever reason, he’s leaving. And has anybody kept count as to how many Stansbury has lost? Getting a bit ridiculous!

  28. Gregg Ellis Says:

So far, five in the last two years alone, tupelobizbuzz.

  29. Braves Dawg Says:

I wonder if he prayed about it?

  30. gmvbham7 Says:

I have not gave an opinion on the baseball coach dispute but here goes. Where is Raffo on this whole thing? Why doesn’t he come out and say he is for a national search for the best baseball coach for State and that he is confident that he will be the man? Instead he hides (it seems) behind Polk. In other places it would be insubordination for a coach (Polk) to be talking like he is that it would be a huge mistake to hire someone other than Raffo. In other places such baseball coach would be fired but we can’t (and shouldn’t) do that out of respect for Ron. I was talking with a friend of mine today and Polk just seems like a grumpy old man these days.

  31. Gregg Ellis Says:

Thanks for pointing out I finished seventh, Braves. And congrats on winning. At least I didn’t finish last.

Someone must have bit 2thdoc’s finger the day he did his bracket. But hey, that’s what happens when you stick a needle in someone’s mouth.

  32. 2thdoc Says:

Thanks GG, anything to make you look good. I’m here to serve…need a shot?
