We’re talking baseball . . . at Dudy Noble

by

Good evening. We’re moments away from a little baseball between Mississippi State and Tennessee.

The Bulldogs are looking for their first series win of the year and are still just four games out for the final spot in the Southeastern Conference tournament.

A few notes . .
• On the mound for MSU is Chad Crosswhite (2-3, 9.89). He’ll face the Vols’ Nick Hernandez (1-3, 5.10)
• Also, former Booneville and ICC standout Cody Grisham is starting at shortstop for Tennessee. He’s appeared in 28 games and his hitting .245 with a home run and one RBI.
• MSU is just 5-15 in the month of April.
• State has won the last four series against UT. Amazingly, the two have met just 62 times, with MSU olding a 41-21 advantage.

After retiring 13 batters in a row, Nick Hernandez gave up a home run to Ryan Duffy as MSU closed the gap to 3-2 in the B6.

  7. Gregg Ellis Says:

Dang, Farley, Did you lose a bad bet or something?

  8. statefanatolemiss Says:

GG, from your view was he out or safe at home?

  9. Gregg Ellis Says:

I thought he was safe. But the replay someone up here had showed that his hand didn’t touch the plate.

  10. Gregg Ellis Says:

    Free baseball.

Thanks to Cody Freeman’s ground-out RBI that scored Ryan Collins, we move to the 10th tied a 3-apiece. Collins led off the frame with a triple.

  11. farley662 Says:

We’re still gonna lose, cause we suck.

  12. farley662 Says:

Least the UT baseball team and softball team could travel together. Although, I wouldn’t hit any of those girls with draws ….

  13. statefanatolemiss Says:

    Weatherford is super human!

  14. Gregg Ellis Says:

Weatherford is unreal. What a great story.

  15. statefanatolemiss Says:

did weatherford give you any off the record info on the upcoming draft and his plans?

  16. farley662 Says:

    What did I miss?

  17. statefanatolemiss Says:

in extras farley. weathford is unhittable. he got us out of a huge jam in top on tenth.

  18. farley662 Says:

Good deal. No reception in Oxford. Where the heck is everybody?

  19. statefanatolemiss Says:

it is friday night, i assume they are where all the people with lives meet. haha

  20. Gregg Ellis Says:

Statefan, he told me he would wait until the end of the season. I have a feeling he’ll leave.

  21. farley662 Says:

You got a big unhuman size noggin!

  22. statefanatolemiss Says:

GG you get alot of off the record info dont you? I need to be an inside man so i can have the info on all the good stuff. Did you know Byrne was gonna be the AD beforehand also?

  23. statefanatolemiss Says:

Farley i went back to oxford a few weeks ago and checked out the new hibatchi grill over on west jackson. Kabuki is the name of it I believe. Its pretty good. If you havent checked it out, you should. Ask for a guy named Li to be your cook. Good food and a good time.

  24. farley662 Says:

I went and it made the wife barf. Had sushi and the baby did not like it. Go to Casa Mexicana next time you’re here. Best Mexican food I’ve ever eaten.

  25. statefanatolemiss Says:

Weatherford is making them look like tee ballers.

  26. statefanatolemiss Says:

Is that the old El Charro?

  27. farley662 Says:

Yup. It’s wonderful. Love the food and they have 32oz XX’s for $3!

  28. Gregg Ellis Says:

Farley, that sounds like my kinda place. But of course, I’m going to be here covering a 30-inning game.

State fan, if I could write a book on inside info that’s off the record, it would be a best seller.

  29. statefanatolemiss Says:

I believe it GG. Do you have to earn that access to the inside info or is it standard practice to let beat writers in on it?

  30. statefanatolemiss Says:

Also I want to ask this and i wont dig anymore, im just curious…..Do you have any inside info on the baseball coach search?

  31. warbirdz44 Says:

How did Grisham do? He was my boy when he went to Booneville. Haven’t seen him since he graduated.

  32. Gregg Ellis Says:

You have to earn the trust of the coaches first. When they trust you, you get the info.

So far, warbirdz, he’s 1-for-4 with an RBI. Where have you been lately?

  33. statefanatolemiss Says:

I noticed the no comment on the coaching search. ill take that as yes you have inside info. haha

  34. Gregg Ellis Says:

    My bad. Actually, I don’t.

  35. farley662 Says:

    Game still going on?

  36. statefanatolemiss Says:

we just won. busby base hit into left to drive in a run.

  37. farley662 Says:

Wooooooohoooooooooo! I’ll drink another beer then!

  38. Gregg Ellis Says:

    Dogs win 4-3 in 12.

Michael Busby, who hasn’t batted all year, had the game winner on a bases-loaded single

  39. cnd46 Says:

Good win tonight, I left in the seventh but was listening to Jim. Crosswhite looked sharp, but the third, and Weatherford just sounded dominate. Good win to build on.

  40. thespear Says:

Sounds like i missed a good one tonight!

Gregg, being the Yankees fan you are, is the rumor true that a redsox fan snuck into the new stadium and buried a yankee jersey at home plate?

  41. thespear Says:

    i mean red sox jersey

  42. farley662 Says:

    Here ya go spear.

  43. Gregg Ellis Says:

Nah. One buried jersey is enough.

  44. warbirdz44 Says:

Gregg, to answer where I’ve been lately, I’ve just been busy being a senior in HS and my internet has been down some too.

  45. bigdraws Says:

Speaking of high school. Anybody know who Tupelo is playing next? Ole Miss commit Kyle Thornton got lit up like a christmas tree again today. I wonder if Bianco is having second thoughts about him. The surgery has really hurt his game.

  46. Gregg Ellis Says:

Well, birdz, this blog certainly doesn’t want to keep you from graduating. Now go study.
