Now this is what you call improvement.
After firing a 326 on Wednesday in the opening round of the NCAA golf championships in West Lafayette, Ind., Mississippi State shaved 29 strokes in its second round to record a 297. The Bulldogs are currently in 27th place, and if they are to make the cut after today’s third round, they have to be in the Top 15.
Noah Goldman leads MSU with a two-day total of 152, while Matt Fast is second at 158.

• Terry’s Rashun Dixon, an MSU football signee, was named Mississippi’s 2008 Baseball Gatorade Player of the Year. As a senior, the little brother of Anthony Dixon hit .530 with 13 home runs and 57 RBIs in leading his team to the Class 5A semifinals.
• The SEC wraps up its meetings in Destin today.
• A total of 15 Mississippi State track and field athletes vie for spots at the upcoming NCAA Championships this weekend at the NCAA Mideast Regional at John McDonnell Field on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. Entering the regional meet, the MSU men’s team is 23rd in the nation in the latest USTFCCCA Division I Men’s Outdoor Track and Field poll and 20th in the Track and Field News’ rankings.

I read this post from elsewhere this morning and had to reiterate it here. It’s 100% accurate and to-the-point.
“The anti-Raffo wave has grown beyond ridiculous.
My main problem with it is that he is one of our own. He played for us and has been a loyal assistant for many years at MSU. People outside the program, which includes the vast majority of fans, can say what they want about Tommy, but he has been a loyal Bulldog and the cannibalistic riot that has broken out against him is awful.
…but to constantly, and quite often unfairly, slander a fellow Bulldog is just wrong.”
It’s not whether he has head-coaching experience opinion of so many that staggers my mind, it’s the down-right, murderous attitude that prevails in his hiring as HC of our team.

I don’t think there needs to be any attacks on Raffo as a guy. I think a lot of the antimosity comes bc of the way Polk handled the situation. As soon as that letter came out, I got that feeling it might get ugly before it was over with.

You’re 100% correct. Polk has let this NCAA thing affect his logical thinking. Combined with having the national NCAA Baseball Chairman as his very own AD, has fueled the antimosity. I received a personal email from LT last year, after the CWS, in response to a letter I had written him… He defended the NCAA actions to the highest level and guaranteed that I would see positive results from those changes.
This thing has gotten way out-of-hand. Unfortunately, Raffo is caught directly in the line of fire btwn Polk and all of his environment, and the new incoming AD having to make the biggest decision of his career…right off the bat!
