Weatherford likely to go pro

I just spoke to MSU closer Aaron Weatherford, who said he’ll go if he’s selected high enough in Thursday’s MLB draft.

Other factors, the senior-to-be said, include the amount of money he’d get and who the next MSU coach will be.

“Juniors have the leverage in negotiations,” he said. “For seniors, it’s either take the money or find a job.”

Not too surprising. His quote pretty much sums it up. a la Mitch Moreland last season.

I’d be surprised if he’s back on the team next year.

If he goes where he wants to, he should go. He has nothing left to prove and like he said, juniors have leverage.

Two other guys the picture is not so clear for. Brandon Turner may not go very high because he was injured all year long. It wouldn’t take much for him to have a better year next year and improve his stock, but I hear he would really like to start playing pro baseball. Ricky Bowen was inconsistent this year, but I hear rumblings he would also like to go. He could come back and easily have a better year with a better team next year, but is he willing?

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
