MSU and the MLB draft

Today’s Major League Baseball draft begins at 1 p.m. today and a few Mississippi State players are expected to figure into the equation.

Most noteable is closer Aaron Weatherford, who some say could be picked by the fifth round.

Others to keep an eye on are Ricky Bowen, Tyler Moore and Brandon Turner. Had Turner remained healthy the last two years, I think he really would have made some noise today.

I see Weatherford being the only one to sign a contract. The only other player I see getting drafted is Moore and it’ll be low. Turner has been injured for two years and I don’t see a MLB team giving him any money.

Two other names to watch: Grant Hogue and Rashun Dixon.
I have heard some chatter about Grant Hogue becase of his exceptional speed and base stealing ability.
We should also pay close attention to where Rashun Dixon goes. We are talking about a guy who if he slips past the third round, he could potentially start in two sports next year. He would definitely start in baseball, probably in left field. In football, we are talking about a potential fullback or even WR.
Of the guys you mentioned, GG, I think Aaron Weatherford goes, Turner is 80% gone (depends on how far he falls), and Bowen is a toss up. I think Tyler Moore comes back.
