Templeton big fan of Cohen hire

Earlier this morning, I asked you, my loyal readers, to grade the hiring of John Cohen.

Apparently, you weren’t the only ones impressed. So too was Larry Templeton.

Templeton, MSU’s athletic director for just a few more weeks who is now in Omaha preparing for his last College World Series as committee chair, gave the big thumbs up on John Cohen returning as Ron Polk’s successor.

“John is one of the outstanding young coaches in Division I,” he told me moments ago. “I really think it’s great that we have a member of the Bulldog family continuing as the leader of our successful program.”

Gregg, does MSU provide security for AD’s. You never know who might be on the loose in Omaha.

  2. redsrock1 Says:

Tommy should come out with a statement to
show HIS support for coach Cohen.

GE ..Do you think TR will stay at MSU, now?

    I hope he does!

  3. Gregg Ellis Says:

I called Tommy today, but he hasn’t returned my call. That seems to be the theme of the day for me.

Nice to know everyone hasn’t lost their mind. As far as Raffo goes. I don’t have one thing against the man. But it may be an awkward situation if he sticks around. Same goes for McNikle. One dumb thing I want to point out if I may. Byrnes is wanting people to buy baseball season tix. Now, everyone knows the chairbacks are always sold out. Unless you have a spot in the outfield why would you buy season tix to sit in the bleachers? Especially when they cost more than the chairbacks. Give me a deal Byrnes. I’d be glad to buy season tickets in the bleachers for…. Oh, I don’t know $75.

Neither will be around…….Cohen was on a radio show this afternooon and said he will have his staff in place and announced within 48 hours.

  6. Jimmy Barbee Says:

Congrats Mr Cohen on your new job. Your success there is hoped for.

Goood ridance Mr Templeton, you have been an unwarranted thorn in the side of Ole Miss for years. Can understand why Rebel fans have a dawg bone to pick with you. You naughty and bad dawg.

Impressed?? Maybe Stressville can become more at ease for the time being with the hiring of Coach Cohen. It want last long. Football is just around the corner. Then Stressville will be stressed, once again. There is hope tho, the dawggies do have a good basketball team, then Stressville will subside once again. So it goes on and on. No end in sight, just a roller coaster ride up hill and down hill.

    Do you hear something?

  8. msu4me Says:

I am pleasantly surprised and impressed that LT came out and vocally supported the hire of Cohen and by extension, Byrne.

I agree with you on the baseball season tickets. They could also offer packages similar to the Maroon and Family football ticket plans.

  10. bigdraws Says:

Hadn’t thought of that. Good idea. JB is angry about my Democratic nominee remark this morning. He’s taking it out on yall now.

  11. jcdawgman18 Says:

Even Ron Polk softened his stance today, saying he thought the Cohen hire was a good hire, he supported John Cohen, he wasn’t going to ask for his name to be taken off the stadium, he wasn’t going to ask his former players to withhold funds, and he really doesn’t even want to leave Starkville.
    Peace returns to Starkvegas!

  12. bigdraws Says:

    Where did you hear that?

  13. Braves Dawg Says:

    Yeah, gotta link?

  14. 2thdoc Says:

Here’s a link. Takes a couple of minutes to download but good for listening to while sitting on the crapper in the mornin. I don’t think all will be peaceful after hearing Polk respond to the question if he will ever sit down and talk things over with Byrne. His response…”No!”

  15. bigdraws Says:

Yeah, I agree 2th. Don’t sound like the guy is done throwing monkeywrenches yet.

  16. bigdraws Says:

Another instate newspaper is reporting that Cohen has hired Jones Community College coach Lane Burroughs.

  17. Jimmy Barbee Says:

Draws, that was a nasty remark to tie anyone to that “socialist political party” once known as the democratic party.

  18. bigdraws Says:

I’m with you JB. I’m just pulling your chain.

  19. Gregg Ellis Says:

Draws, as I mentioned in a previous blog, we’re just waiting for Burrough’s hire to be official and clear the road blocks.

  20. Braves Dawg Says:

I couldn’t bring myself to listen to that whole interview.

Draws, you got JB all riled up! I didn’t know he was a card carrying member of the Democratic Party. That’ll make Farley proud.

  21. bigdraws Says:

Sorry GG. Didn’t see that. I got that off WTVA’s website and changed the wording a bit. I listened to it all. At the end, it goes into the NCAA is the root of all evils bit.

  22. jcdawgman18 Says:

He’ll always be mad at Greg Byrne. But we can deal with that. I don’t think it really bothers Greg.

  23. redsrock1 Says:

All Greg did was pick the best man for the job.
