Of all the 12 games, what’s the biggest and why?

Tonight, I’ll tally the votes and proclaim “The Biggest Game” on the Blog.

Of course, the next game is really always your biggest game, and that’s not just coachspeak, but I would say Auburn. We should be 2-0, it’ll be on national tv, and it is a chance to make a big statement that the Dawgs are back for good.

  2. bigdraws Says:

I say Arkansas at home. It’s the last home game, and if we’re having any kind of a decent season. We’ll need to win that one.

  3. bulldogs4life Says:

I will say Auburn. They are picked to win the west so that will be huge for our confidence if we win that one.

  4. farley662 Says:

La Tech. Still not sold on Croom. If Byrne were the coach, we’d win every game.

  5. 2thdoc Says:

Auburn game because it will set the tone for either starting the SEC schedule with confidence or in a rut. 3-0, 1-0 SEC would be huge for State.

  6. BirdZ! Says:

Not counting Ole Miss, I say GA Tech. Most folks expect us to be 2-1 after the first three games. GA Tech is a quality non-conference opponent. We need to beat them over there.

  7. CBdawg Says:

I would have to say Auburn. First SEC game, they’re supposed to be front runner for the west, and if we win (and are 3-0 afterward) it would get us noticed nationally.

  8. jsaltillo Says:

I’m going with LSU. No matter what happens before that game, if we can beat them at their place it will be not one but about five steps in the right direction. All other games are winnable in my opinion.

  9. theconquistador2 Says:

If I took my hatred of Ole Miss and Alabama out of the equation, I would have to say that Auburn is the biggest game. First SEC home game and the stadium will likely be packed (if we take care of business against LT and SLU). Win that game and we’re likely 3-0 with 4 winnable home games left. It’s probably going to be our toughest home game and a win could go a long way. If we win the first 3 games, we’ll have a legitimate shot at 8 or 9 regular season wins.

  10. goldendawg Says:

I’ll have to be different and say Vandy. It is the first SEC game that we are “supposed” to win. If we lose to Auburn and LSU, the outcome of the Vandy game will determine whether or not we can salvage the season

  11. themaroonandwhite Says:

I would say Auburn…could you imagine if we are 2-0 and beat Auburn? We could then be 4-0 going into LSU.

  12. Gregg Ellis Says:

I think Auburn has jumped out to the early lead. Ears should be happy.

  13. tishcodog Says:

Auburn!!! Were looking at being 2-0 going in, first time that we have a legit shot at that big of an SEC game in a while, Bulldog Bash is the night before so Starkville is going to be packed with people and excitement…yeah state fans with excitement over Auburn……I know

  14. goldendawg Says:

Did ya’ll hear what Les Miles said about Bammers?

According to The Times-Picayune of New Orleans, Miles cautioned LSU fans “not to make too much of that game, as it seems like a lot of teams in Louisiana beat that team.”

  15. bigdraws Says:

Whoooooooaa!! That right there is solid gold my friend!!

  16. tebmsu97 Says:

La Tech for sure. If we take them lightly and lose that game every bit of momentum gained last year will vanish the second that clock hits all 0s. You will see the effects in the way the team moves forward and you will see the effects in recruiting as we lose commits.

  17. goldendawg Says:

you can read the whole story here

  18. Braves Dawg Says:

They need to start out on a high note or they’ll stumble through the remainder of the season.

  19. Braves Dawg Says:

    Auburn huh?

  20. db33 Says:

The biggest game for this season in my mind is Georgia Tech. I don’t see upsetting Auburn 2 years in a row. So, barring disaster against the two LA schools, we’ll be 2-1 heading into Atlanta. 3-1 puts us 2 games above .500 and gives us tons of momentum for the rest of the year. Lose, and we’re limping into Baton Rouge 2-2. Not good, we’ll slip to 2-3, go into a mental funk which could cause us to lose games against teams like Kentucky & Vanderbilt later.

Last year’s key game was Auburn, or simply splitting the LSU & AUB games. Instead of starting out 2-2 after Gardner-Webb, we were 3-1. And, the carry over was that at no time during the year did we slip to a losing record.

  21. thespear Says:

I def see the case for auburn and it is #1 to me. Kentucky and Tenn are running a close second tho. I think that if we are gonna stay in the runnings in the west we are gonna need a win (other than Vandy) against the East.

  22. holder1927 Says:

I think the game that matters the most as far as momentum goes is the Auburn game. If we win that one we should be 3 – 0 heading into Atlanta. I don’t think Georgia Tech will get the better of us if we have momentum on our side. Win that one and we’re sitting pretty going to LSU the next weekend.

  23. thingreenline Says:

Its hard to pick a “biggest” game. Auburn will be huge. But, like BirdZ, I’m leaning towards GA Tech. A solid non-conference win can’t do anything but help us in conference play. And it should be a good game; is it on TV?
Also, the Arkansas game because it will be a needed late season win and we haven’t beat those banjos in years!

  24. dc31 Says:

I say the LSU game. I think we win all games before LSU. If we can win against a LSU team with a new QB, we win the West and Croom’s comments on going to a BCS bowl will come true.

  25. imabulldog Says:

good question GG, I’d be to say Auburn.

Not to jump on that wagon, but I think that game- like last year could easily set the the tone for the season. I think Auburns new system will not be quite as effective as most think. With Lester, Fannin, and Tate, I think Tubby is an idiot to not run the ball all day on everyone. Some may say well it worked vs Clemson in the bowl game- but Clemson had nothing but Troy tapes to prepare with.

I say we at least show up, hard fought game, I even say we pull it out due to Awesome D and special teams. But as long as we show up and play hard, let the SEC know we are here to compete- we’ll be fine, but that’s why the game is so important.

I say we handle GT, SEC style, and end the drought VS LSU with an 11:30 start- before the Cajuns get drunk 🙂

  26. thingreenline Says:

I wouldn’t go that far. A win over UCF doesn’t carry that much momentum.

  27. 83bulldog Says:

The biggest game of the year? Auburn is the first BIG game but if we lose that game we are still 3-2 after five, 6-3 after nine. Then if we loose to Bama and Hogs we still play Ole Mis for a Bowl again. Ole Miss always has been and always will be the BIGGEST game of the year! Go Dawgs.
