MSU at La. Tech: Game Thread

by

We’re about five minutes from kickoff. As has been the usual exercise, I believe, I’ll post any thoughts/updates in the comments section. Anybody have good/bad vibes? Me, I got no vibes, just a cup of tasty lemonade.

  1. Brad Locke Says:

This ain’t no stinking sellout. Visitor’s side might be half full. State’s got a good contingent. Players take the field.

  2. Brad Locke Says:

    Tech to receive.

  3. joekstewart Says:

the michigan game is still on. Michigan is making a comeback.

  4. Brad Locke Says:

Tech converted a pair of third-and-10 plays but stalled at the MSU 45. Punting.

  5. Brad Locke Says:

Tech had one running play, eight passing plays that drive. Surprising.

  6. maxdawg Says:

Go away Michigan. I want to watch the game!

  7. dawgfaninva Says:

Damn you Michigan end this game already I want to see my Dawgs play!! Flippin TV timeouts and there has been about 100 incomplete passes in the last 5 mins. This game is never going to end!!!!!!

  8. Brad Locke Says:

    MSU punting.

  9. dawgfaninva Says:

And let the comments about our offense begin!!!!

  10. 2thdoc Says:

    And the punting

  11. maxdawg Says:

Game Tracker stats on La. Tech site.

  12. Brad Locke Says:

Boom! Wesley Carroll to Brandon McRae, 8 yards for the TD. First career touchdown for McRae. 7-0 MSU.

  13. maxdawg Says:

That’s more like it. Go Dawgs!!!!!

  14. Brad Locke Says:

Some pretty inspired play calling there. Had Carroll in the gun, under center, rolling out, and Anthony Dixon was running hard. And how about McRae – 3 catches, 48 yards on the drive.

  15. rwriffe Says:

Looks better already than any offense we’ve seen in a while. It may be La tech but the receivers look good

  16. Brad Locke Says:

Tech a 48-yard field goal. 7-3. MSU had a little trouble with that hurry-up offense.

  17. warbirdz44 Says:

So is our offense this good or is their defense this bad?

  18. rwriffe Says:

    maybe a little of both

  19. rwriffe Says:

    bad decision on the int

  20. Brad Locke Says:

End of 1st quarter, 7-3 MSU. Stats forthcoming.

  21. thingreenline Says:

So, is anyone gonna say what kind of surgery procedure Woody had? I never heard what that was about.

  22. maxdawg Says:

    Ole Miss 14 Memphis 7

  23. dawgfaninva Says:

I like that comment a min ago Brad….Boom! Taking a page from the good ole John Madden huh? Good Quarter guys That was a hell of a reverse to bad Co Eric was freakin holding. And I dont think that int was really all Wesley’s fault.

  24. warbirdz44 Says:

    Wow, that pick was ugly.

  25. dawgfaninva Says:

Ok but that second one was def his fault!!!

  26. maxdawg Says:

    See ya Carroll

  27. Brad Locke Says:

    First quarter stats:
    • Total yards: MSU 133, Tech 84.
    • Carroll: 7-12-1, 105 yards, 1 TD
    • Bennett: 4-14-0, 62 yards, 0 TD
    • Dixon: 5-22
    • Jackson 2-17

  28. Brad Locke Says:

Dang, Marcus. Did you get faked out of your drawers or slip on the dry turf?

  29. Brad Locke Says:

Tech got too cute. Tyson Lee in the game.

  30. Brad Locke Says:

That D-line is getting after Tech pretty good. And Jackson hasn’t done squat.

  31. Brad Locke Says:

Dixon is running his tail off. That was a Jay Novacek move.

  32. Brad Locke Says:

    Go for it, coach!

  33. rwriffe Says:

    amen

  34. rwriffe Says:

    good time for it

  35. thingreenline Says:

2nd down and that was the play call?? Miraculous.

  36. tupelodent Says:

I think I like our receivers

  37. Brad Locke Says:

Brandon Hart over the top. 14-3 with 2;14 left in the half.

  38. rwriffe Says:

I know I like them. That Mcrae kid is awesome.

  39. rwriffe Says:

    Lee is very composed.

  40. thingreenline Says:

We have the worst university commercials in the SEC. Even LA Tech’s was better. Is our marketing and promotion done by the SA??

  41. Brad Locke Says:

Lee was 4-for-4 on the drive.

  42. Brad Locke Says:

The downed punt at the 1 – one of my favorite plays in football.

  43. Brad Locke Says:

Bennett said earlier in the week that Keagle’s punting could really help the offense. You just saw how.

  44. Brad Locke Says:

Well, as many of you, including myself, predicted, it’s close at the half: 14-9. A little bigger dose of Dixon could help the Bulldogs pull away. Stats forthcoming.

  45. thespear Says:

Not a terrible half. I wish Croom would play every down like a spurrier or tuberville. He always wants to get an early start to the locker room at half time. It takes risks to win a football game! Lets go Dawgs!

  46. imabulldog Says:

If Tyson Lee slides after the marker its 14-3

  47. joekstewart Says:

They need to get Tyson out of the game! Put Carroll in!

Carroll only made one mistake, the 2 INT-threw it too soon.

State needs to run AD and Ducre. LATech can’t stop them for long.

But they need Carroll in there.

  48. dawgfaninva Says:

Well I have mixed emotions about our offense right now!! I really like how we have opened up the playbook. I didn’t believe Croom when he said we are going to open the playbook more….but I seriously think we have and I like it but I just dont know whats going on with us. We are stalling out!!! I really like our receivers!! They are big and fast dixion is running the ball hard he has like 12 carrys for 68 yards or some crap like that. Our defense is doing all they can do but when LA Tech gets the ball on our side of the field they are going to score sometime. Hang tight guys it will be alright. I see another typical MSU game….start out slow finish strong!!! I say we win this game 38-16.

  49. tebmsu97 Says:

The Tyson slide was a plain bad choice. I think Carroll looked decent except that second INT. Overall they have definitely opened the offense. We need to establish Dixon, he is a man. Our receivers look pretty damn good, and the hold on Riley was weak in my opinion.

  50. goldendawg Says:

Yeah, i think that Croom was trying to see what his boys could do. Expect a heavy dose of Dixon and Ducre to secure the win.
I do think that Carrol was handling the offense better.

  51. Brad Locke Says:

    MSU Stats:
    • First downs: 14
    • Rushing yards: 76
    • Passing yards: 149
    • Dixon: 11-67
    • Carroll: 7-14-2, 105 yards, 1 TD
    • Lee: 6-7-0, 44 yards
    • Bell: 5-62
    • McRae: 4-60, 1 TD
    • Chaney, Smith, Douglas with 4 tackles each

    Tech stats:
    • First downs: 8
    • Rushing yards: 27
    • Passing yards: 139
    • Bennett: 9-26-0, 139 yards, 1 TD
    • Jackson: 5-22 rushing, 3-17, 1 TD receiving
    • Livas: 4-71
    • Baker: tackles

  52. imabulldog Says:

The Tyson lee I’m watching is coin great except for the premature slide

  53. imabulldog Says:

    meant doing

  54. carwwest Says:

tyson looked ok..nothing great….the slide cost us points and that pissed me off to say the least…i know croom is committed to the 2 QB system but all he is doing right now is destroying carroll’s confidence….carroll looked pretty good until the 2nd int….he needs to play more….mcrae looks very good….we’ll see how the second half goes but we need to step it up a little bit….

  55. msudog25 Says:

I dont think he’s destroying confidence. He’s not a freshman anymore and he knew this system was coming. I like how the running game seemed to have picked up when we had lee in the game.

  56. Brad Locke Says:

Fitzhugh comes up big again. Horrible throw, though.

  57. thingreenline Says:

    Great.

  58. carwwest Says:

    what the hell was that!?!?!?

  59. Brad Locke Says:

Where’s Derek Pegues when you need him? At home.

  60. thingreenline Says:

That is such a pussy personal foul call!!

  61. rwriffe Says:

he didn’t have the collar. he had the jersey

  62. rwriffe Says:

our kickoff and punt returners need some serious coaching. Never should have tried to field that punt.

  63. Brad Locke Says:

    Easy, TGL.

  64. nashdawg Says:

    Are these WAC officials?

  65. thingreenline Says:

You can’t blame Croom or Woody on this. I’ve disagreed with some of the playcalls, but it has pretty much been good. The defense has been given the shaft, again.

  66. tebmsu97 Says:

The horse collar crap is a freaking @#%#$^&$@#^&@&% penalty. When did football become a fairy sport?

  67. Brad Locke Says:

SEC crew. Road team’s conference officials call for non-con game.

  68. nashdawg Says:

Well, I hope the SEC Conference reviews that “horse-collar” on Monday and gets those officials straight on what is a horse-collar play and what is not!!!

  69. thingreenline Says:

Those goes Dixon with his dancing moves again

  70. Brad Locke Says:

He’s gained some tough yards, though.

  71. Brad Locke Says:

    Who was he throwing to?

  72. dawgface52 Says:

Looks like our worst nightmare has become reality. Stick a fork in them. Carroll ain’t the answer either.

  73. thingreenline Says:

    Oh. My. God.

  74. Brad Locke Says:

Still time, fellas. Tech’s average TD drive distance: 11 yards.

  75. farley662 Says:

    Wow.

    And TGL, all is forgiven.

  76. nashdawg Says:

He’s floating the ball out there! No heat on the throw! If the LaTech is getting these floaters, just imagine when we get in SEC play and the defensive speeds esculates to a super-sonic level. It’ll be a barn-burner every game.

  77. skydawg706 Says:

    Embarrasing…..

  78. Brad Locke Says:

Can’t hit ’em that high, I don’t guess.

  79. goldendawg Says:

    this is absolutely awful..

  80. goldendawg Says:

so i guess wac officiating is as awful as wac football

  81. thingreenline Says:

Who the hell are these officials. Really. Tell me.
This is suppose to be football.

  82. Brad Locke Says:

    Again, SEC officials.

  83. carwwest Says:

terrible call!!…we look terrible….especially on special teams….if we lose this, its going to be a looooooooong season…..5 turnovers!? really!?

  84. rwriffe Says:

    well they are terrible

  85. nashdawg Says:

Brad, is this apart of the new rules this year?

  86. thingreenline Says:

Hey, I think someone just got tackled. Where’s the damn penalty flag.

  87. thingreenline Says:

I wasn’t actually asking what conference they were from, Brad. Just which retard center.

  88. dc31 Says:

Typical State, we hate prosperity. This game should be over.

  89. thingreenline Says:

The out-of-body spirit of LT may haunt us forever

  90. dawgface52 Says:

Yup, same old same old. Thank God Carroll has been yanked.

  91. db33 Says:

    where the hell is elliot????

  92. Brad Locke Says:

I was talking to Goldendawg, TGL. It’s OK. But yes, the horse collar tackle has been outlawed. Looked like one from up here, but I haven’t seen a replay.

  93. skydawg706 Says:

No offense line at all…….do we have a 3rd QB.

  94. thingreenline Says:

I was about to go back to that play, anyway. How else was he suppose to make that tackle? On the replay, it looks like he did all he could do just to the guy on the ground. I guess they’ll have to start wearing yellow flags on their waitband next year.

  95. Brad Locke Says:

Blake McAdams just broke the school record for most career punts (218). Kind of a dubious distinction.

  96. thingreenline Says:

The only difference between this game and Maine or Troy State: This one is on national TV

  97. nashdawg Says:

No, Brad…replay clearly shows that he was drug down by his jersey! No horse-collar at all!

  98. dc31 Says:

    Our D is exhausted

  99. thingreenline Says:

I bet Pegues never misses another class in his life

  100. Brad Locke Says:

    Defense getting tired.

  101. skydawg706 Says:

Defense line gone……LA-Tech scores – ballgame, do not see Dawgs making come back.

  102. rwriffe Says:

    can you @$##$## believe that

  103. dadwithpride Says:

Three years in a rwo to be embarressed on national TV. Next year, lets turn it down

  104. thingreenline Says:

    Yes, I can

  105. thingreenline Says:

There is now a massive rush to Stubhub.com to sell home game tickets

  106. carwwest Says:

its over….we suck!! i really regret wasting money on season tickets….

  107. dadwithpride Says:

14 poinits againt LA tech! Can you fire an Very offensive Coordinator before a game is over?

  108. thingreenline Says:

I would say Pegues in more to blame for this lose than Woody. And that’s coming from me, who couldn’t stand Woody.

  109. dadwithpride Says:

    Great, a 2 yard completion

  110. dadwithpride Says:

Quick ESPN2, cut to the Nascar race!!

  111. thingreenline Says:

And the MASSAVE LA Tech D gets the big time sack. Pathetic.

  112. dadwithpride Says:

We got some real geniuses calling this game plan

  113. dc31 Says:

Anybody know why Wade Bonner smilin’? Ain’t really nothing to smile about since his fumble set the tone for this pitiful half of football

  114. thingreenline Says:

B/c he has Frosted Mini Wheats waiting on him when he gets home.

  115. dadwithpride Says:

    Great catch by Bell

  116. mmsdawg Says:

    why are we punting????

  117. dadwithpride Says:

Poor Jack Cristil, even he cant understand why we are punting?

  118. carwwest Says:

every single coach better resign TOMORROW!

  119. thingreenline Says:

The season aint over yet. But I wish it already were.

  120. dadwithpride Says:

Wow, a whole 11 yards on the kick!

  121. rwriffe Says:

this game lays squarely on the punt returners shoulders. Trying to field that punt was the dumbest play of the game.

  122. thingreenline Says:

Our Vanderbilt status has just been regained. Yepee.

  123. thespear Says:

    I suddenly remember why I hate Croom’s decisions…..

  124. carwwest Says:

8 wins just turned into another 3 win season….

  125. rwriffe Says:

    exactly

  126. rwriffe Says:

counting on his defense to get it back

  127. dadwithpride Says:

Oh well, on the dark side, Ole Miss (and every other SEC team) won today!!

  128. dc31 Says:

This is Templeton’s loss, never should have played this stupid game in their home stadium. Take a note from Georgia and Florida, the 1st game is always the hardest. Play a cupcake! AT HOME

  129. dadwithpride Says:

This was supposed to be a cupcake! Sad

  130. carwwest Says:

its going to be a lot harder to get guys up after this loss than the lsu loss last year….no telling how bad we are going to be…<5 wins croom is gone…period…it just would prove last year was a fluke…

  131. warbirdz44 Says:

Did you guys forget the egg bowl last season? Now granted, it’s not looking good for us but don’t lose hope yet!

  132. warbirdz44 Says:

Can I retract that last statement? 😀

  133. dadwithpride Says:

I agree, if we dont get better, he wont finish the year

  134. dadwithpride Says:

Gracious, how long are they gonna drag this fiasco out?

  135. farley662 Says:

    Hehe

  136. rwriffe Says:

its not the end of the world but you can see it from here.

  137. dadwithpride Says:

Reckon Tyler Russel would want ot come in a year early?LOL

  138. rwriffe Says:

Farley, it’s offical, you are an As@^%^

  139. dc31 Says:

I still say we win 7 or 8, saw a bunch of positives, knew this was a dangerous game all along, but gotta ditch the 2 QB system, it never works. Carroll is a second half QB, never got the chance to redeem himself. Thought the play-calling was okay at times, but didn’t establish your All-SEC back. 5 Turnovers won’t win a game against Starkville High, especially when in scoring position.

  140. tupelodent Says:

for sale: 5 season tickets, good seats

  141. dadwithpride Says:

Finally, the misery id over. Can’t wait to hear Croom grumble, grumble in the coaches interview. Wonder who he’ll blame it on?

  142. farley662 Says:

I got drilled for two weeks for saying everything that was gonna happen. I’m not happy, but I ain’t surprised.

  143. farley662 Says:

I say Woody dad. If only he would have let Sly call the plays.

  144. rwriffe Says:

he should blame it on the return teams. PLAIN and SIMPLE.

  145. farley662 Says:

Karma, plain and simple. Right TGL?

  146. mmsdawg Says:

    well Brad…welcome to MSU football!!!!!!

  147. rwriffe Says:

what did you say that was going to happen oh grand Poobah?

  148. thingreenline Says:

Texas A&M lost to Arkansas State today. I don’t feel quite as bad now…

  149. farley662 Says:

Go back and read the last few weeks. Said we were overrated. Croom is a mediocre coach. Where not gonna get bailed out like we did last year. I ain’t happy, but after what some of you said to me, I ain’t that upset.

  150. rwriffe Says:

Farley, I can’t believe you would rather State lose for you to be right in some so called prognostication than be upset that they lost.

  151. thespear Says:

Its gonna be a long year!

  152. skydawg706 Says:

Oh well there is next year, if we play them again.

Need to stick with one QB – build confidence (or something)

Just felt winning an open game on the road would have set a good tone.

See what turns out next week…..long road ahead of us.

    No offensive line….

  153. skydawg706 Says:

Oh well there is next year, if we play them again.

Need to stick with one QB – build confidence (or something)

Just felt winning an open game on the road would have set a good tone.

See what turns out next week…..long road ahead of us.

    No offensive line….

  154. rwriffe Says:

I haven’t said it but I’m saying it now.

  155. farley662 Says:

Got told I should kill myself. nuff said

  156. rwriffe Says:

    it wasn’t me;

  157. rwriffe Says:

    nuff said

  158. dc31 Says:

Last year 0-1 behind a bunch of turnovers. We will win a bunch of games and go bowling again. Now is the time for all of the Fair-weather guys to exit stage left

  159. farley662 Says:

No problem with you. Never have, never will.

Oh well, least we know what we have to work on. EVERYTHING!

  160. rwriffe Says:

thanks 31. Well said. Special teams need to pick it up in a major way.

  161. rwriffe Says:

Sorry Farley, I’m just really trying not to kick the tv in right now! And “he he” got to me. Your opinion is yours and I’m ok with it.

  162. nashdawg Says:

I have tended to give Croom the benefit the doubt, but after tonight’s performance….he and the rest of the crew has got to go. Let’s pay a coach with head coaching experience the 1.2 million per year! All those who threw the greatest coach in Miss. State Bulldog history…under the bus…, I hope you are real happy.

  163. midnightdawg Says:

“he he”. u got to be kidding me…. this loss is right up there, and that’s saying something, but you’re gonna take pleasure in it? give us an “I told you so”? That sucks farley

  164. rwriffe Says:

This loss belongs to the return crews guys. Those turnovers got us out of sync and the defense had to be on the field entirely too long

  165. maxdawg Says:

    Bad Farley Bad!!

  166. farley662 Says:

Guys, you have to laugh. If night, we are all gonna have strokes before the end of the year. I’m not taking pleasure in the fact that we lost. Not at all. Had a State fan over here tonight saying we would win by a 20 point margin. told him we couldn’t score 20. I never understood all the hype before the season started and got hammered hard by every State fan I know. Until we can score 20 a game, we ain’t back.

  167. farley662 Says:

    If not, not night.

OK, ok, I’ll go to my blog! Sorry! (Hangs head in shame)

  168. warbirdz44 Says:

BIG difference dc31. We were supposed to get killed by LSU. That was an expected result. We were supposed to kill LA Tech and this happened. At best, now, we win 6 game this year, and even that is in doubt. I don’t see how you can call us fairweather fans when some of us were saying before this game that we won a couple of fluke games last season and that there was a good chance we wouldn’t be as good this season.

  169. maxdawg Says:

What really sux Ole Miss scores 41

  170. farley662 Says:

Warbirdz, I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but I agree because you’re right. You are so wise beyond your years:)

  171. farley662 Says:

I live in Oxford. You think I’m not gonna catch crap all week? That’s reason to laugh as well!

  172. dgnrshnx Says:

    MSU football motto: Ain’t sh*t, Ain’t never been sh*t, Ain’t never gonna be sh*t!

  173. dawgface52 Says:

Stage left? Oh there it is………the door with the huge line of folks exiting.

  174. dgnrshnx Says:

    Farley,

Not to rehash everything you said the last few weeks, but I haven’t been on here to read. Can you give me a quick outline what you did say? Thanks.

  175. rwriffe Says:

Well, at least we broke the 300 yard barrier in total offense. As I cool down more I have to admit that there were flashes of good things. Dump the two quarterback system and stick with one or the other. Put someone on the return team with some hands and some sense

  176. farley662 Says:

Not worth it man. Not at all. Going to the beer store. Ribs will be smoked tomorrow!

  177. BirdZ! Says:

    Anybody want some tickets?

  178. maxdawg Says:

    Croom better smoke some a##.

  179. BirdZ! Says:

Croom better get the team ready for the next game.

  180. maxdawg Says:

Croom didn’t look to surprised hisself.

  181. dgnrshnx Says:

Please Mr. Motivational Speaker, spare me the digging through the rest of the blog.

  182. rwriffe Says:

basically he said we were overated as a team and that Croom was overated and that we would be fortunate to win half our games. Or something there abouts. Maybe not in those exact words.

  183. charleston11 Says:

What a sad, sad day. Wonder if Pegues is still missing class?
Easy win next week and then Auburn will put up 40 on us the next week.

  184. nashdawg Says:

The reason Croom didn’t look surprised is because it’s been this way since he arrived on the NCAA coaching scene. He can “punt” all the talented players he wants off the team for mistakes made off the field…and he’ll keep getting the same results. Poor play, poor performance and a poor representation in the college world of football.

  185. charleston11 Says:

    Byrne is starting to panic!

  186. theconquistador2 Says:

Pathetic. There’s no excuse for this in year five. Special teams killed us but we should have scored more than 14 freakin points. Although the stats don’t exactly show it, LA Tech pushed us around. I don’t even think we got a first down in the fourth quarter. Looking like last year might have been a fluke. Also, this game should not have been played in Ruston.

  187. chrisfromcorinth Says:

I haven’t read any of the comments but I do know that this one can’t be hung on coaching. This riest squarley on the players. I thought Chad had given up the game. How did nobody not know that he was in Wes’ uniform.

  188. warbirdz44 Says:

“Warbirdz, I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but I agree because you’re right. You are so wise beyond your years:)”

And you are wise in that assessment! 😀

  189. BirdZ! Says:

chris, the players and the coaches are all responsible for this one. We kept passing when we should have been running. I couldn’t get woody to hear me no matter how loudly I yelled at the TV.

  190. theconquistador2 Says:

Several times during the game I heard the commentators asking why we were running a certain play on offense. Specifically why Dixon kept running East and West

  191. chrisfromcorinth Says:

There were a lot of plays left on the field.

  192. carwwest Says:

this can and should be put on the coaches….the players didnt help but once again, the play calling was remedial during the second half….and i forget who said it but we DID get pushed around by f-ing la tech….because the players knew that it was over….they thought it would be a cake walk and it wasnt…coaches job to make sure they are ready…we werent…..and the 2 Qb system is also remedial…despite the ints, carroll is the QB…lee looked lost and you could tell his height is a disadvantage….he cost us 6 points because of that weak A$$ slide…i wanted to open up the playbook but i always said running the ball is goin to take us where we are going this year and dixon was SOOOOO under utilized!!!….establish the run and keep the defense honest with the pass…i actually think we might have showed all our tricks in the first quarter…..and the final thought for right now, punt with 3:30 left!?!?!?!?….we havent stopped them the whole second half and you have one f-ing timeout!!!..its common sense to go for it!!!!….out coached, plain and simple…..

  193. Tom Says:

5 turnovers. Could be a very, very long season. Another outing like that and Coach Croom, whom I admire, is gone.

  194. charleston11 Says:

State should take good notes from a good “coach” in Oxford!
Nutt knows how to get the most out of his players!

  195. carwwest Says:

hell would anybody be happy to get skip holtz’s butt in starkvegas…i think i might…

  196. charleston11 Says:

Either Skip or LOU, LOU, LOU!

  197. carwwest Says:

lou can go to the “i lost my f-ing mind and dont know anything about football” looney bin along with croom, cheese, and woody mcsuckey!!! well you cant really blame the D since they were f–ked the whole game bc of the offense and special teams….

  198. theconquistador2 Says:

There’s more than enough talent on this team to beat LA Tech 10 out of 10 times. Plain and simple…we weren’t prepared. Smith should have been taught in practice that you don’t perform a Willie Mays catch on a any kick. Our bread and butter is running the football. Dixon and Ducre combined for 21 carries. Dixon averaged 5.1 yards per carry and Ducre 4 yards per carry. Why didn’t we run the football more???????????

  199. carwwest Says:

cuase woody and croom are in above their heads

  200. Brad Locke Says:

Well, friends, I’m checking out. Much, much more to come on this fiasco in the coming days. Chin up.

  201. greggellis Says:

Well guys, this officially concludes my duties as a sportswriter. Again, just want to say how much I’ve enjoyed this blog.

Brad, great first week. It was baptism by fire, and you didn’t get burnt. Good job.

And with that, I’ll say so long and good-bye. Basketball starts in six weeks.

  202. thingreenline Says:

Can the rest of us get out that easily?

  203. strikerhcs Says:

I’m still holding to my prediction. 3-3 the first half of the season (I did say this game could be a possible upset,) and 5-1 the second half of the season. We win next week and move more to a single quarterback system (hopefully Carroll.) We’ll light it up next week, probably get beat by Auburn the next, then start to make strides to go 8-4. However, if we stay with 2 QBs, I’m pulling all predictions. And, yes, offensive line may be a big short fall for us this year.

  204. charleston11 Says:

Gregg, now we know why you are really leaving. Can’t blame you!
Basketball needs to start next week!

  205. ibdawg47 Says:

What do you dawg fans think of Croom now? I though he should have been fired after the 06 season. 07 was a fluk. 08 will be back to a 3 win season. I say fire his A$$ now and start over.

  206. nicksabanjr Says:

oh come on, surely you guys aren’t jumping ship already? don’t give up on coch croom it is just one game, he has got this thing turned around trust me on this one. just give it time. by the way does anyone know the score of the bama clemson game?

  207. bamamanreturns Says:

    CROOMED !!!

  208. carwwest Says:

im not giving up on croom but i wasnt sold on him and this game made me think i was right in the first place…so he has a lot of ground to make up…and if blames anybody but himself i will spear him at the auburn game!!!

  209. bamamanreturns Says:

I told the Bulldog homer network…you never play a little schoo; on their turf, and you certainly don’t fly in the day of

  210. imabulldog Says:

First of all, there were a lot of positives, I’m looking forward to next week, and I still love out Dawgs, BUT…

-For once, and the only time I can say this in about 26 years of being a state fan: “We tried to do too much. All we had to do was be conservative and simply run the ball. We should have closed the playbook.”

And with that, I still think the biggest play of the game was Tyson Lee sliding about 4 yards short of the sticks before the half-completely changed the momentum of the game. If he runs to the sticks, we keep the ball, run out the clock, and its 14-3 at half.

I think Lee is our QB. He eludes pressure better. Much more arm strength, more accurate, and better decision making tonight, except for his premature slide. Carrol looked great on our first scoring drive, then as weak as a girl-scout-with no vision of the field. I still like him, but he clearly wasnt up to par.

Game plan should have been, Dixon, Dixon, Dixon, Ducre, Ducre, Elliot, Elliot, Bomb or play action, and then back to Dixon. For once, we lost a game by simply ignoring the strongest assets we have on the field.

    See yall next week.

  211. imabulldog Says:

Some of yall need to chill, thats all I have to say. All you “Fire Croom” people are IDIOTS. I guess yall werent jumping up and down when we beat Ole Miss, Bama, Aurburn, or the Bowl Game last year-huh?

You people make me sick…chill, yall act like we are Notre Dame or Michigan or something. Croom wasnt dropping punts, fumbling kickoffs, or dropping passes.

Get for real yall, seriously…long season ahead, we did a lot of good things tonight, but I feel CC felt even more pressure from critics about the offense that we tried to do too much.

  212. farley662 Says:

You make me sick ima. You should be fired! 🙂

  213. carwwest Says:

ima, lee (from tonight) is no where near as complete as carroll…carroll is our QB…despite to int’s he looks leaps and bounds better then lee…lee looked lost and slowed down our entire offense….i do agree dixon is our guy on offense…no excuse but i said it earlier, i wasnt and am not sold on croom as a game caller…and it showed tonight….LT.screwed us tonight, we should have never played that game at la tech and we should have overcome but what happened, happened becuase croom is the one that is responsible for getting us ready and it didnt happen…..no other way about it…..

  214. imabulldog Says:

yeah LT def screwed us. Im a huge Carroll fan, just made about 5 terrible decisions tonight, coulda had 5 pix- if some weren’t tipped. I thought the refs killed us too many times.

I know everyone is mad at CC, and I can see why.

You know, bout half way thru the 3rd I woulda called a timeout, got the whole team around me- chewed some butt out, and then told McCorvey to keep it simple stupid! 🙂

  215. bamamanreturns Says:

problem is neither is a D1 QB. there were just too many things out there..playing at La Tech, travelling the day of, OC is gone for last 2 weeks for surgery, and the loss of Ellis Johnson is HUGE

  216. imabulldog Says:

yeah, well all solved by running the football. All we had to do. And we didn’t have to do all that Shotgun crap, just go up the middle. We couldve literally had the ball and clock for 65% of the game if we wanted to, if not more with the new clock rules

  217. imabulldog Says:

Running the ball keeps their O off the field

  218. skydawg706 Says:

chrisfromcorinth – I with you – Coaches cannot run, tackle, block, or catch the ball for the players. Players have got to execute what they been taught.

Where was the “we are going to run it down their throats” game?

Question I have that keeps coming back and I been a Bulldog fan since 1964: If other teams can win (especially the games they are suppose to) WHY CAN’T STATE?

These roller coaster seasons (game-to-game) is getting old.

Maybe the new fancy scorebord will help at home games, at least fans can see something we’ve gotten for our money.

  219. skydawg706 Says:

Gregg – going to miss you for sure………

  220. dc31 Says:

Honestly, I don’t know why everyone just thought that we would kill LA Tech. They have more football tradition than we do. If you go back to some thread a couple of weeks ago, you can see where I said this game makes me nervous because it’s their Super Bowl and we had nothing to gain. Call it drinking Kool-Aid, but I saw some good things. All this means is that we’re still not in the upper half of the SEC, we’re still middle of pack. With all of the players getting into trouble during offseason, you can tell success went to their heads. This is just a wake-up call…Minus our best player, and minus Sherrod, you guys can jump ship if you want to

  221. carwwest Says:

i dont think people are jumping ship but croom and his coaches didnt show us anything last night and the players didnt help but its the coaches job to get players ready to play and we didnt look ready…..it is a wake up call but should not have been one…coaches messed this one up and i do think it was a trap game but you still should win…..we have the talent to destroy them and we didnt…coaching…..

  222. charleston11 Says:

The reality of all of this is that State will finsih the year 2-10, ouch!
Yes, 2-10. Wins next week and on homecoming and that’s it!

  223. imabulldog Says:

charleston11, you my friend are a comedian

  224. bamamanreturns Says:

I agree with everyone on this board, croom is not the problem and 8 wins is a lock.

  225. midnightdawg Says:

Fire Croom??? Get over yourselves! Couldn’t believe the talk 2 years ago, can’t believe it now. Who we gonna get that’s better? I believe in CC as a head coach. Not as a playcaller, and agree that he should replace Woody ASAP. I observed the mess at UA in F’ville first hand the last few years, and was constantly amazed at the arrogance of their fan base. I’m shocked that a similar scenario is playing out with the fans here. Thought we were better and more knowledgeable than all that. Glad Byrne is running the program and not some of the clowns I have read on this blog

  226. dawgface52 Says:

We lost to a poor La Tech team. The clowns are on CC staff for allowing it to happen.

  227. imabulldog Says:

    I’m with you midnight!

  228. imabulldog Says:

you know what-all you who talk about firing CC, why don’t you back it up!!!
Don’t come to the games and for sure don’t act like you are happy when we win. You people remind of boycott people, “don’t eat here, this company supports this or that.” whatever it last until you grow tired of yourselves and you have to by in- when we start winning

  229. Jimmy Barbee Says:

charleston11 : On the other hand it could be 11-1, rather than 2-10 as you say.
