Week 2: Predictions

by

OK, time to pick a score.

MSU is hacked off at that unthinkable loss to Louisiana Tech last week, and the Bulldogs have been pretty sharp in practices since then. They’ve got Derek Pegues back, the two-QB system is out, and Southeastern Louisiana will be a great opportunity to A) work out some kinks (OK, a lot of kinks), and B), more importantly, get a win.

I know everybody is hoping for a 63-0 blowout, but that offense has some things to prove after last week. The receivers looked great, RB Anthony Dixon ran well, the line wasn’t bad, so the level of productivity will depend mainly on QB Wesley Carroll‘s performance (no more INTs!).

The Tech upset has me picking conservative this week. Gotta show me something, Dawgs.

Prediction: MSU 35, SLU 10.

  2. theconquistador2 Says:

SELA is a bad football team. They struggled with Alcorn. If we don’t win by at least 3 TD’s I will be very disappointed. I think the team comes out mad and wanting to prove something.

    41-13

I say, we finally blow out a DII team like we’ve always wanted too, big time whoopin’

Carroll evens up his INT’s and Td’s Stats, throws for 250

AD/CD runs for 200 flat, 140 for Dix, 60 for Ducre

Hey Meridian dog, Im from M town, live in Memphis now. Went to Northeast-You?

  6. ericintupelo Says:

Gotta say 41-10. I think the dogs will show up ready to play and it will be a completely different team than the one that played Saturday against La Tech.

  7. chrisfromcorinth Says:

I went to NE to Ima, when were you there.

  8. bleedmaroon Says:

though our defense wasn’t impressive against tech, they will not give anything to sela. unless sela scores on the third stringers late in the fourth. gotta make a statement with this game. we need a lot of momentum going into auby week.

    Dawgs – 44
    SELA – 3

  9. bleedmaroon Says:

I also think pegues will have a big game. he wants to right his wrong. he will have a score either by a return or pick 6.

I think we are going to see an explosions of offense. I think you will see Dixon with 130 yrds, three TDs. Ducre and Elliot will a combine of a 100 yds. Carroll about 168-200 yrds two touchdowns.

But I think the defense will be more alive.

  14. nashdawg Says:

Miss. State squeaks out a barn-burner 47-44, w Carroll on gm winning drive late in the 4th.

  15. dadwithpride Says:

People talk about the line played good, Dixon ran OK, but should get better, etc. I havent heard any talk about will the coaching, play calling, decision-making, etc get any better. Sometimes, the coaches need to step up. It wasnt the players who got together and voted to punt with time running down, and only 1 TO left. Somehow, I don’t think Carroll thought taking him out would keep the flow going.Somehow, I dont think the whole team(and fan base) felt they needed punishing for Pegues missing class. Punish the violater, not his teammates. So ,lets see if the coaches have made improvements this week. If not, hhhmmmmmmmm?

  16. joekstewart Says:

dadwithpride is right! Playcalling is the key this Saturday, it sure was last.

  17. theconquistador2 Says:

If we struggle Saturday, I’m going to get the life raft ready to jump ship. It holds 7 people, so if need be some of you can jump in.

  18. biloxi13 Says:

Nash, push away from the bong, and go check into a rehab center quickly. Dogs 45 – 3

  19. Brad Locke Says:

Good points, dadwithpride, but Pegues is to blame for whatever the team suffered due to his absence. Policy is policy. The coaches couldn’t have done anything about it if they’d wanted to.

  20. imabulldog Says:

hey Chris, I was talking about highschool not Jr College. But, maybe you were talking highschool- if so class of 2000

  21. 2thdoc Says:

    State 33

Robert Elliot should finally get his hands on the ball. If it is close then something hasn’t been working so even more of a reason to get him some touches.

  22. bikerdawg Says:

dadwithpride: If you can tell me how 3 Ints, 3 fumbles (2 of them lost) and a 31.9 yrds/punt was coaches play calling, I’ll agree with you. And to me, 348 yards doesn’t sound like bad play calling.
What I will put on the coaches is, I don’t think the team was mentally ready to play. I think they thought they were so much better than a non-BCS team that they were going in and walk all over them.
I also think that if they go into the game this weekend with the same attitude, we could easily end up with a SELA 21 – MSU 17 score.

  23. goldendawg Says:

    MSU- 21
The team cohabitating with the enemy- 6

  24. carwwest Says:

i say if we better score 40+ points, if not at least pitch a shut out and say 38-0 but i want 40+ with good PLAYCALLING!!!

  25. Brad Locke Says:

OL Derek Sherrod will practice today, and it looks like he’ll get some field time Saturday. More on that later.

Is our game before or after Ole Smelly loses to Wake Forest?

Not to stir the pot but I just heard that Ole Miss is the #2 Party university—what to they have to celebrate–oh never mind–drinking their misery away-my badness.

  29. meridiandog Says:

IMA I went to Clinton and graduated from there 32 years earlier than you did from NEL. Gee I’m getting to be an old fart.

Everyone else. It’s nice to see all of the high score wins predicted byeveryone on the board. Makes me feel bad for my low score fears. I hope several of you are closer to correct than me. Especially the 40 something to nothing guys.

    GO DOGS!!!!

  30. db33 Says:

SELA has been living in cabins at Camp Lake Stephens. They are practicing at UMiss. Their starting QB is out for the game.

This should be a no mercy game. Croom needs to run up the score and get a good feeling back for the program. He doesn’t need to call off the dogs with us up 28-3. We need a total blowout, 50 something to less than 10.

  31. imabulldog Says:

I hate em’, but I think Ole Miss wins this weekend

  32. luckydog20 Says:

I used the old play calling complain last year, but last weeks game play calling was not that bad.

  33. meridiandog Says:

Not that they know, but Rivals.com has:

    MSU 38-10 over SELA

    Wake Forest over OM 34-20

    Arkansas over LA monroe 28-13

    KY 34-10 over Norfolk state

    South Caroline over Vandy 20-14

GA Tech 17-14 over Boston College

    Auburn 28-14 over USM

    Georga 48-21 over Central MI

Florida State 52-9 over Western Carolina

    Alabama 42-10 over Tulane

    Kansas 48-20 over LA tech

    Interesting calls

  34. desertdog2005 Says:

    I agree with all except:
    Arkansas 14
    LA Monroe 20

    Vandy 28
    S. Carolina 24

We have to root for La Tech to bite someone else….
    La Tech 24
    Kansas 21

  35. jcdawgman18 Says:

    42-7 Dawgs.
Boobie will score three times in the first half, they’ll get a cheap one late. Wes begins to look like the quarterback he was on the scoring drive last week, but all the time.

  36. southavendawg Says:

As much as I like some of your predictions, I too would like to see this team put up at least 40 points. We all do realize that Croom has never had a team put up over 40 points. They just don’t seem to have the killer instincts that some of Jackie’s teams had.

    Here goes…
    MSU 37
    SELA 10

  37. Jimmy Barbee Says:

No score prediction. My prediction is that State will win. Coach Croom, and the great coach that he is, will have this football team performing well.

State definitely cannot take a defeat here.

Wish that I could apply a little support for them, but all my energetic support will be for the Ole Miss Rebels since they take on a highly rated team in Wake Forest, plus Hanna.

  38. nashdawg Says:

biloxi13, hey dude….great line! The rehab center won’t accept me. I’m too crazzzzie. The lame coaching and poor use of our of talented football players over the last 5 years has “washed” me out. It’s the easiest thing in the world to kick a guy off the team, bench him or ship him off to another Div. II program. What’s hard in life is balancing the mistakes made while maintaining the success of the program, nationally.

Hey, if the coaches can’t do that consistently in 5 years, THEN IT WILL NEVER GET DONE…under this administration.

I am passionate about bringing about a change in leadership. We need a change in attitude among the alumni, the athletic dept and the coaching staff. The same ole status-quo attitudes, pundits & self-centered, minded people will not bring success on the field of play. The practice field, the film room, the great Palmerio Center, the classroom, even the game day “dog-walk”…yes, all those places have been successful in the eyes of our coaching staff. But, on the gridiron, the facts, the stats, the final scores all reveal differently! This continual poor play on the field will only serve as a source of demoralizing the base fan support. We need change in ’08! We need change today. And I embrace that spirit of change for the good of all fellow Bulldog fans. I say, “storm the camp.” And I ask all fellow blog posters here to join me in this war; oooppps, I mean effort.

Man, I have got to find my way back to the “center.”….

    Vandy is looking pretty good.

  42. strikerhcs Says:

No upset this week, but no blowout either. Offense will look better, but we will miss not having Chaney. MSU – 31 SLU – 13.

  43. carwwest Says:

didnt we swap south carolina for vandy…looked like a good idea at the time….. haha….south carolina was overrated anyway…

  44. imabulldog Says:

Nash, Byrnes is the new leadership, season tickets up by 12%, Bulldog club enrollment up by like 1500. One more winning season and your wishes will probably be coming true-just let this season work itself out

  45. msudawginbama Says:

oof. State really needs a confidence booster this week. If Auburn figures out how to complete passes this weekend, next weekend could be a long one…

  46. nashdawg Says:

,ima…tk’u fella dude. Ur right, single-g Byrne will come through. Any AD who has the fortitude to challenge a 20 year+ tenured coach and come out on top, these football coaches better get their priorties in order or get ready to hit the door!

I hear they are gonna be a Wii bit tired coming into the game.

  49. skydawg706 Says:

I hope Dawgs score more than this – pick an odd score:

    State: 34
    SELA: 0 (6)

    hope higher……..51 (safety) to 6.

Would love high score to give other players some play time. Feel CC once he knows he has the game won – is not one to run up score – put 2nd/3rd string guys in – if they score, oh well.

Stats show passing is SELA strength, so-so run. So with the QB out of the game, they may have to run more.

I’m sure SELA knows they are in for a physical game – Dawg ticked about losing – playing at home – knowing fans are expecting a big turn around, total domination.

I think another factor SELA will have to deal with and none can do it better – NOISE FACTOR – large crowd expected for first game.

    So bring them COWBELLS……let’em ring!
