MSU Postgame Quotes & Stats

Just got my last story filed. Cutting it close. Some postgame nuggets for your (almost) midnight snacking pleasure:

Sylvester Croom: “We executed some things better. We were moving the ball pretty much from the start the way we would have liked to done it. But we missed some key situations where we had errors. The thing that really concerns me now about the offense is we’ve had more fumbles in the first two ballgames. We had a couple of penalties, that bothers me. That is not characteristic. We’ve got to eliminate that. Going into conference play, we can’t give the other team more opportunities.”
• Croom on having FS Derek Pegues back: “It’s like having a Mercedes and they take the keys from you. When they give them back to you, it feels pretty good to drive it.”
• QB Wesley Carroll: “I think we did a lot of good things tonight. Obviously two fumbles, that’s two too many. We’ve got to come up with some more plays, especially in the passing game.”
• WR Brandon McRae: “We put Louisiana Tech way behind us. We’re over that now. Right now for 24 hours we’re going to celebrate. Twenty-four hours after that we’re focusing on Auburn.”
Key Stats:
• QB Wesley Carroll: 15-23-0, 158 yards, 2 TDs
• RB Anthony Dixon: 18-80, 2 TDs
• RB Christian Ducre: 10-67
• WR Brandon McRae: 8-72, 1 TD
• P Blake McAdams: 3-43.0 (much better!)
• DB Charles Mitchell: 5 tackles
• DL Cortez McRaney: 5 tackles, 1 sack

The second effort tonight from Ducre and Dixon was huge. At least 5 or 6 times they were hit 4 times before going down. Carroll had a good touch on almost all of his long passes and could have easily had 100 more yards if the receivers had just held on. The dead duck that he threw on the flee flicker was hilarious but still a good game for him.

We won’t have the same time to throw against Auburn and we won’t get as much of a rush on their QB. I am looking forward to it though just to see how we hold up to a decent team.

If we can get a good defensive effort, we might be able to compete with Auburn. Can’t have turnovers either.

I agree with the Auburn assessment doc. Despite a close score with USM yesterday, they dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Two fumbles in the redzone for Auburn in the 1rst quarter hurt their scoring. The new qb for them played real well in the 1st half.

good stats. Excited about the Auburn game, we have got to be physical once again. But the two biggest keys to the game: 1) run, run, run 2) no turnovers.

Both Ducre and Dixon looked good running North & South.

How about some of those hits on kick offs!!!
