Tuberville Teleconference

Just a few nuggets here from the Tommy Tuberville teleconference. Nothing real ground-breaking. Auburn beat Southern Miss 27-13 on Saturday:

• “We played much better than we did the week before. We’ve got a lot of work to do on both sides of ball. We made too many mistakes on defense in the second half.”

• On his QBs, Chris Todd and Kodi Burns: “We’ve still got two good guys. Chris played pretty good. He’s got a lot of room for improvement.”

• “We’re a much better defense at this point than we even were at this point last year.”

• On MSU: “I hadn’t really seen them much on film. They’re like us, it’s early in the year, we’ll start working on them tonight.”

It sound like Tubby is worried. I heard that they did not play all that good against Southern Miss. USM could have won the game early if they would have captialized on some turnovers. That is the key for us coming in.

Looking at the stats, Southern only had 37 net yards rushing. Auburn did not look so hot in the 3rd quarter.

Not sure where Southern broke down – looking at time of possession about the same as Auburn. Auburn scored all TDs on the ground, 4 for 6 in red zone.

For sure Dawgs cannot turnover the ball in any form. Like against SMU, maybe Auburn will fumble against us – if we sticking it to’em right.

There were some good hits on kick off.

I thought the fans did a great job at the dawg walk – showed CC and players support.

Wonder if the Tub will complain about the cowbells…….aaaaah yea.

With any luck Auburn could have blown Southern Miss out. They had turnovers twice in the red zone in the first half and they had a punt called back for a penalty. The score did not reflect how lopsided that game really was. Auburn D shut them down except in the 2nd half when they were playing zone and giving up the dinks and dunks. The Auburn D will give us fits, they were in the backfield all day long with pressure. Should be a good test. Can’t wait to be in Starkvegas.

cant wait till next weekend but it is going to be an uphill battle i think…dont get me wrong, im going to be there ringing that bell as loud as anyone but we still have some growing to do i think…we still dont look to have that much explosiveness on offense, not saying we arent better but i still dont know if we have that one player that is a legitimate homerun threat….mcrae is a brightspot and is one hell of a receiver for us right now….but if we can run the ball successfully and get some good play from carroll we will be in the game….it will be interesting to see how the linebackers play against SEC players without chaney in the middle….all in all, we are going to have to play a “complete” game and get some turnovers and not turn the ball over ourselves…

  5. carwwest Says:

oh and can we please call something besides a middle return on kickoff and punt returns!?!?!?!….even with derek back there it looks like we have no threat back there when all they do is run up the wedge’s back and fall down at the 20….

  6. skydawg706 Says:

I hope playing against Auburn at home – the guys will be fired up for this game – out to prove they are a contender in the SEC.

I to am worried about Auburn defense and our offensive line – give Carroll time to throw and holes for our backs to run through – this would be one game I’d love to see the score ran up on – big time – in ur face Tub.

  7. BirdZ! Says:

Can’t wait for the game, even though I don’t think we’ll win. I’ll be ringing my bell, though. Tubs may not complain about the cowbells. I think he and Croom are friends, unlike with Jackie.

BTW, I think it is Kodi Burns, not Cody.

  8. carwwest Says:

ok i know its beating a dead horse but our longest run last night was that 20 run from carroll that ended in a turnover…dixon’s longest was 14 ad ducre’s was 13….just seems like we should be able to break more than that against such a bad smaller team….take away that 50 yard catch and run to green and our longest pass was a 19 yard screen pass to elliott….ok not really worried about the passing game because carroll is a manager and took what the defense gave him i guessing and im sure the coaches didnt try to do a whole lot with him to put him a bad position but it just seems like, with the talent we have at RB we should have broken more but oh well…they still played well and hopefully they can break some next week and have another big game…..GO DAWGS!!

  9. southavendawg Says:

cw, i’m with you. That’s why I thought the first string offense needed another series or 2. No long runs and lots of dropped balls.

On the cowbells, what was the reason for security officers taking them up on the east side? Luckily, mine was well hidden and not taken up!

  10. imabulldog Says:

just stick the handle of your bells down the back of your jeans, this keeps the bell upside down (no clanging), and it usually will fit the crevise of your back.

Anyway, Brad great job on your first game, tons of info!

I want to say thanks to the students, loud and proud, had the bells going, I did as most you did, but they made some noise. Should be an awesome atmosphere for Auby.

I think we can hang, especially if they throw it- I think we can create TO’s, I’m just worried bout Lester, Tate, and Fannin. Hopefully our boyz will be playing with some very controlled adrenaline the whole night!

  11. Brad Locke Says:

    Thanks, BirdZ. Correction made.

War Eagle, everyone. I was born and raised about 30 minutes away from Southern Miss, but I am an Auburn Alum. I have much respect for USM, MSU, and Ole Miss. I look forward to a great game this weekend. I believe that some of Auburn fans tend to think too highly of themselves when it comes to playing Mississippi teams. Sometimes they say, “It’s just Mississippi State”. I was a freshman in 1997 when a guy in my dorm (from Birmingham) said that. That’s when MSU came over there and beat us 20-0 on our turf. Anyway, MSU will always play us hard. It should be a great game, but of course, I am rooting for Auburn. War Eagle.

  13. imabulldog Says:

Glad to have you Nolan, good luck this weekend

  14. maxdawg Says:

Just wanted to see if my new pic would work.

  15. maxdawg Says:

    And it didn’t.
I can’t get my pic to change.

  16. skydawg706 Says:

southavendawg – i was a little nervious also on the cowbells – had it stashed away in my wife’s purse – he gave he a good look – but let it slide.

I bet Tub will be whinning to the officals about the cowbells before Saturday.

NOLAN – my home town is Lumberton – class of 69 – always like Southern -even when they beat State.
