SEC Teleconference 9.10

by

A bit of news: Marcus Green will not start at tight end this week because of a nagging hip injury, though he might still play. True freshman Nelson Hurst will get the nod, and junior Austin Wilbanks will play as well. Also, true freshman Kendrick Cook, who coach Sylvester Croom said he’d thought about redshirting, could get into the mix.

Now, some nuggets. First, from Croom:

• “I think we made significant improvement in our preparation last week. We got off to a good start yesterday.”

• On WR Aubrey Bell: “Aubrey has done an excellent job, he’s come a long way. We named him offensive captain this week. He’s smart, has a great work ethic. I think he’s in the best physical condition he’s been in since he’s been here. He lost about 10 pounds. He’s playing with more consistency.”

And from Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, on MSU’s running backs: “Everybody likes to have two good ones, and they have that. They’ve got physical guys, they have speed guys. It’s like bringing a pitcher out of the bullpen. It all goes with running the football. Dixon’s been there, done that. He knows how to play, run the football. It all starts with him.”

Yep, and if his hip wasn’t really, really banged up he scores on it, easily.

I didn’t notice at first that he was hurt when he got in the open running and was thinking to myself…they time him in the 40 with sundial. Still faster than me though.

I have never seen a true freshman play well against a SEC opponent. Hopefully, Croom is bluffing!
