Sherrod Starting Again

by

OK, now that Derek Sherrod is back at left tackle, MSU should get a boost offensively. Or will it? Offensive line coach J.B. Grimes is cautiously optimistic, as they say.

“You really don’t know until you just throw him out there,” Grimes said Thursday. “He went for something like 16 days and didn’t take a snap.”

Sherrod’s foot infection was taken care of in time for him to take the field last week, when he played 18 snaps against Southeastern Louisiana. But Saturday will be different, because it’s Auburn, which has a tough and quick defensive front. It’s imperative Sherrod protect QB Wesley Carroll‘s blind side and open up some big holes for the running backs.

Grimes expects the line to be better just with Sherrod’s presence. But all of them need to take things up a notch Saturday.

“Mentally our guys are doing a pretty good job of getting on the right people. Fundamentally, we’ve gotta get better on helmet placement, foot placement, eye placement,” Grimes said.

As for the depth chart, the only change is that Mark Melichar, who spelled Sherrod the first two weeks, will back him up.

“I feel really comfortable about the eight guys we actually play,” Grimes said.

    Welcome back Derek

Hope your wheels are in good shape now.

Hit someone for me and make a hole for Dixon and Company, please.

This can only be good. Kickoff can’t get here soon enough. What’s really cool is every non Auburn SEC fan I talked to this week says they have a good feeling that will come out on top. The win would make the Tech loss easier to sweep under the rug. Can’t wait!

    GO DAWGS!

Dereck – I hope he makes it up close and personal……open a hole so big the band could march through it.

GO DAWGS – cowbells will be ringing—-upper deck – section 706.

    Looking forward to the game…..

708 skydawg!!…. sherrod will help the line a lot i think and has nfl written all over him…lets not forget he is only a true sophomore….i think we will have to establish the run a little better than we have so far this year but i also think our receivers can do something even though auburn has good corners…mcrae 6’4″ 205…bell 6’3″ 215…auburn’s CBs..have one out of 4 that is above 6’0″….i hope woody has a career game in playcalling because i think we have the talent to beat this team if we have a complete game (execution, playcalling, etc.)….but like maroon said, kickoff cant get here enough…im taking my good friend jim (beam) and one of my oldest friends, cow (bell) and i want a reason to have fun with both of them!!!…GO DAWGS!!!

Carwwest – I make Dereck highschool games just to watch him play. Like you say – talk about a solid player to have palying for you.

Dawgs can do it if they want to…..play tuff – play smart.

Looking forward to going to the game with my son. He was with me last year when we beat Bama.

Looks like it is going to might be a windy day tomorrow – 5-15 mpw winds, 20 mpg gust.

Say a prayer for Galvaston TX – looks like they are really in for it.

Be nice to give Auburn fans two things to complain about – getting beat and gas prices. Gas is off the scale. My son (stranded Dawg) in TN said is was $5.00 a gallon there (Knoxville), other places higher.
