Croom Teleconference

by

Many topics on tap today during coach Sylvester Croom‘s chat with the media.

• RB Anthony Dixon probably won’t practice today after aggravating that groin injury. “It’s going to be day-by-day. We don’t know at this point. I saw him this morning, he was still limping a bit.” Croom said that Christian Ducre and Robert Elliott will have to “carry the load right now.”

• On QB Wesley Carroll: “Wes will be the starting quarterback. He did some good things, he made some good throws. … I feel like he still gives us our best chance to win. If I need to do something during the game, I’ll do it.”

• On Georgia Tech’s wishbone offense: “That’s the hardest part of playing the wishbone, is the discipline of everybody fitting how they’re supposed to fit.”

• Injury update: K Eric Richards is out, TE Marcus Green is doubtful.

• Croom said he’ll work harder to get WR Delmon Robinson more playing time this week.

• On LT Derek Sherrod, who made his first start after getting over that foot infection: “I think he had about 8-10 minuses, and they all came in the first plays of the game. That’s from not practicing. He got better as the game went on.”

Carroll made some good throws? That must’ve been during the warm-ups.

    Brad,

Any comment about Tyson Lee not getting even one series with Carroll struggling?

Also, ask him about his comment to Bob Davie that went something like this:

“Ill retire before I change my offense.”

  3. bleedmaroon Says:

yeah and his “offense” will retire him

  4. theconquistador2 Says:

I think he said that he would retire before going to a spread offense.

    “Good Throws?”
    What the heck?
As far as his retiring before he’d go to a spread offense or change his offense….who cares? I’ve reached the point that I know he’s so hard headed about the football team being “HIS” team that he’s not going to accept criticism in any form, that I know he’s going to be his own undoing. Croom won’t last much longer. (This year will be his last) His pride will cause him to resign if the Bulldogs don’t win at least 5 games this season. If they do win 5 (which doesn’t look possible to me with our offensive play calling) he’ll stick around for one more year. State WILL NOT fire the first black head coach in the SEC no matter how bad we are but Croom doesn’t handle people running down his coaching decisions well at all. If the season continues at this pace look for a MAJOR malfunction during one of his press conferences where he’ll end up doing himself in. I hope he loses it sooner rather than later for the sake of our program. Croom has NEVER been the right fit for our team. I have no doubt that he’s a stand up guy but there were always BETTER coaches available. When he self-destructs maybe we’ll hire someone right for the job. I’m really surprised that Croom lasted longer than Coach O.

  7. bleedmaroon Says:

man would I love for us to get our hands on Skip Holtz. I mean ECU? come on.

  8. theconquistador2 Says:

Skip is doing a heck of a job.

  9. Brad Locke Says:

He didn’t talk about Tyson, except to say that he’ll be willing to make whatever changes necessary this week if things go badly.

When did he say that comment? Last week? I didn’t catch it.

  10. imabulldog Says:

The last thing I want is to lose CCroom, but some changes need to be made. And I love Wes, but Lee woulda saw the field in the 3rd Qtr if I were coach

    Brad:

It would be really cool and informative if you could get an interview with Tyler Russell from Meridian and just gather his input on Saturday’s events? And get some comments on his current opinion on the MSU offense, and how he could come in and help by the Vandy game if needed? I’m sure Greg Byrne could work out some special exemption with the NCAA for early entry! But serioulsy an interview with him would be awesome and possibly make us fans feel better if he’s 100% still committed

  12. carwwest Says:

did i hear right that he actually took responsibility for not putting elliot and delmon robinson in the game….”we have got to get them in there”….he keeps freaking saying that and never does it….croom is going to have to do a lot in my eyes to make up for this season thus far because i was never 100% sold on him after last year because if his coaches and in-game calls….i think in a post around 3 months ago, i said i was about 90% sold as long as we improved upon last year and this just proves croom and mccorvey are in over their heads….also, yall mentioned tyler russell, and i said it in a previous thread, pat patterson already decommitted and i look for a lot more to follow…

  13. imabulldog Says:

fire Woody, recruit 12 off. Lineman
