Sylvester Croom Says …

MSU coach Sylvester Croom was asked about the initial trepidation he had when offered the job, and about the progress the Bulldogs have made on his watch:

“Any time you go into building a program or rebuilding a program, it’s a long haul. I knew there were certain things we were going to have to go through. One was, did I really want to go on that journey, and was everybody going to be on board for going through the process we had to go through.

“I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been a very difficult task. I’ve enjoyed it, and I’m still enjoying it, and the process continues.

“I feel like we’ve made tremendous progress. If my tenure was to end today, this program would be a lot better off than when I came.”

Croom added that he realizes there is still much room for improvement, but that it would be a mistake to count out his team for 2008.

Stay tuned for my SEC power rankings and notes this afternoon.

Please ask Coach Croom how long does “the long haul” mean? 5 years, 10 years, 20? We’re staring at our old friend, the magic number 3 again this season. I’m still not sure that 3 isn’t out of the picture. 2 would probably be more realistic.
Once again, the same old same from our Coach. Groundhog Day.

    Lets examine the good:

    1. Our program is clean
    2. Recruits actually consider us
    3. We don’t get killed anymore by our conference, except LSU
    4. We know what it feels like to beat Bama, Auby, and go to a bowl
    5. We have had, and still have a good D, except last game
    6. We could have one of the best coaches in college fball, if he surrounded himself with better coaches on a ‘particular’ side of the ball

I will agree with Croom when he says the program is in much better shape today than it was when he took over. That’s why our soon to be 1-4 record is so frustrating. The program is better but we’re getting the same results….can anyone say coaching or lack thereof?
