MSU-LSU Postgame

First, some quotes from coach Sylvester Croom:

• “I thought we played hard. We played with a lot of passion and commitment throughout the course of the ballgame. We got better at a lot of things.”

• On the last drive of the first half: “I said I’m not going to make a decision that’s going to get us in trouble. I felt like going into the half, that as long as we didn’t turn the ball over right there, and we could come back out and stop them on defense the first drive, then we’ve got a chance to move the ball.”

• On QB Tyson Lee: “He had an air of calmness about him, and for the first time, it looked like he was totally confident in everything he was doing. … He played a lot better than I thought he would.”

Now for a few player quotes:

• RB Anthony Dixon: “I guess you could say I feel a little better, but I don’t feel a whole lot better, to tell you the truth. A loss is a loss.” Dixon said his groin injury feels fine.

• LB Dominic Douglas: “The preparation of the guys, their minds into practice, the intensity of practice, everybody was smiling, everybody was having fun. I believe we transferred it out here into the game.”

• QB Tyson Lee: “I was comfortable with the guys around me. They gave me comfort, that’s the biggest thing is having everybody doing their one-11th. If everybody does their one-11th, it makes it whole.”

Now for some stats:

• Total yards: LSU 427, MSU 285

• Rushes-yards: LSU 37-166, MSU 31-110

• Passing yards: LSU 261, MSU 175

• First downs: LSU 22, MSU 13

• Penalties: LSU 5-55, MSU 10-90

• MSU QB Tyson Lee: 17-26-0, 175 yards, 1 TD

• MSU RB Anthony Dixon: 15-60, 1 TD

• MSU RB Christian Ducre: 7-24, 1 TD rushing; 4-34, 1 TD receiving

• MSU LB Dominic Douglas: 11 tackles, 1 TFL

• LSU QB Jarrett Lee: 18-27-1, 261 yards, 2 TDs

• LSU RB Charles Scott: 27-141, 2 TDs

• LSU WR Brandon LaFell: 7-100, 0 TD

• LSU LB Perry Riley: 9 tackles

Now, I can leave. G’night.

Wow, what a back handed compliment. Croom is such an idiot. And the decision to do nothing before half is inexcusable. We were in Baton Rouge to win a game, not to win a moral victory.

Crxxm says, “I said I’m not going to make a decision that’s going to get us in trouble”.

He talked about confidence this past week. You can’t build confidence by telling your guys that you are afraid they will make mistakes. What do we have to lose.

  3. mathistondawg Says:

Wow, If you were Lee, how would that comment make you feel? “He played a lot better than I thought he would”. It would make me think I made the decision to attend the wrong school. Croom should let someone else speak for the team – someone to give the team some confidence moving forward, not tear players down.

Team had 10 penalties – not good.

As far as the end of the first half – ESPN was shocked, I was, and most of you were. The offense was finally clicking, and he gave them a vote of “no confidence”. Kinda like going for it on 4th and 15 when playing Auburn. He gave a vote of “no confidence” in his D that game – that had carried him all night.

  4. jbuzz74 Says:

I am completely disapointed in Croom and his decision not to go for some points before the half, even if its was only a field goal. It changes everything. Instead we look like we are happy to not be losing that badly. The second thing that is driving me crazy is the fact the Bowser can’t cover a dime with his hand on defense. almost every big pass play we have given up has been a deep post with Bowser in coverage, get him off the field!

  5. carwwest Says:

crxxm is THE DUMBEST HEAD COACH IN DIV 1 football…there is no doubt about it….im not saying we would or should have won the game but give us a chance coach!!….then the comment on lee, how stupid can you be!?!?!…played better than i thought he would??…give me a break…crxxm and wxxdy are still to blame for this crappy season thus far and if there are no changes made at year’s end we, the fans and the players are going to suffer for a looooooong time to come….

  6. carwwest Says:

oh and bowser does look lost as a DB….

  7. dadawg Says:

Wheels are off the tracks..I hope we don’t wait too late to get this back on track.?

  8. msumom Says:

Well, this is the first time I have posted on this blog, and I am very disappointed in MSU football. OTOH, only a little over a month before basketball season starts—it is usually much more fun than the football season.

Can’t wait to go to the Hump!!!

[…] He had an air of calmness about him, and for the first time, it looked like he was totally confident in everything he was doing. … He played a lot better than I thought he would. – Sylvester Croom on Tyson Lee […]

  10. olemiss1581 Says:

Were going NUTTS!!!!! Its a while before the hump is rocking, and it wont be doing that much of that this year anyways!!!!! good job state, …..YOURE TERRIBLE AGAIN!!!!!!!

  11. goldendawg Says:

Yes all hail the mighty university of mississippi. I think we should go ahead give them the SEC Title- they beat Florida. Maybe even the national title… Season over- Mississiippi football is supreme over all the

Better a State Fan during a losing season than an Mississippi fan ever!
    Go Dawgs and GTHOM!!!

  12. BirdZ! Says:

    (sarcasm on)
That was an intelligent, lucid, well-thought-out comment, 1581. You sound like a really smart person.
    (sarcasm off)

Don’t know who you’ve been listening to 1581, but I quit hearing about the Liberty Bowl around Jan 15.

  13. skydawg706 Says:

I got watch LSU-MSU game in TN (vacation) – looked better than we have in the past.

Do ya think Carroll lost his job at QB (starting)?

I wished I had a recording of all the TN fans complaining about TN.

Hard to believe being 4-1 but Auburn fans worst than TN – listening to them on the radio was unreal – ready fire everyone – start over.

Maybe having a week off Dawgs will get rest – get ready to beat Vandy – does not hurt to wish. I think we can do it….

  14. theconquistador2 Says:

We beat Florida a few years ago and it did WONDERS for our program.

  15. thingreenline Says:

Yeah, I heard Dickie Scruggs was real proud of the football program. He got to listen to it while washing up for the “loving” he was about to receive from Bubba.

It’s bad when your prominent alumnus ends up in the same place as our football players.

  16. mathistondawg Says:

awesome post thingreenline. I enjoyed the post from goldendawg too – GTHOM!!!! I would rather have received a degree from Berkley and been a tree hugger than have gone to oxford, you know, the town 70 miles from memphis.

  17. msumom Says:

WOW! You are not a really nice bunch of folks, Ole Miss people–but that surprises me WHY??

Yep, we are still Dawgs and we love our basketball and we love to pick apart the football team.

Yeah, 1581, I had forgotten about the Liberty Bowl until you mentioned it, guess I have just been too busy living my life, outside Scott Field and Vaught Hemingway and yes, the Hump as well……

  18. skydawg706 Says:

OleMiss………win or lose a State fan.

Your opion of MSU matters about as much bear scat.

Sometimes luck falls on the undeserving as it did UM this past weekend.

Hope UM able to maintain – hate to see u and other UM bloggers start bad mouthing ur team again as u were at the start of the season.

Again, your opion of MSU matters about as much bear scat.

  19. msumom Says:
