On the Links

Here you can find today’s strongly worded column about the Bulldogs. I managed to resist using a George Michael reference.

I shall head to Starkville later today and catch up with various players and coaches, including Sylvester Croom and his thoughts on losing Robert Elliott for the year.

Also, what is the world coming to? Vandy is so setting itself up for a huge collapse.

Good column that hits the nail on the head.

That La Tech decision not to go for it was the first “what the?” of the season. Listening to the game on the radio, Jack Cristal said something along the lines that “the Bulldogs are for some reason lining up to punt, and I don’t quite understand that decision.”

As for the first half with LSU, we’ve got the momentum and we decide run the clock out? We’re playing a top 10 team – why not go for broke. You have nothing to lose. In big games like these, you go all out, take risks, tell your players that yes, I believe in you.

If Croom is worried about the confidence of his players, he needs to look at his own actions and how they determine the mindset of the players.

We were 8-5 last year because the breaks went our way. And because we made things happen. It’s not too late to salvage the season, but the coaching staff, from the top down, has to help make those breaks happen.

And that includes taking chances and showing a little confidence in your players.

    Excellent stuff Brad. Excellent!

Good article Brad. Can you send a copy to Byrne in case he is out of town and didn’t check the DJ today.

How’s it been going Tom? Long time since you dropped in.

  11. Tom Says:

Going good 2thdoc. Thanks. I’ve been dropping by and keeping up with the latest buzz, but have kind of been “fasting” from commenting on blogs. Had to break my fast over the current debacle. If we don’t make a dramatic turn around this season, I’m afraid we’ll be feeling the effects of that ridiculous 1st half surrender (and the other failures catalogued by Brad in his great article) for years.

    Things good with you?

I don’t know how to approach the Vandy v. Auby game???

But, their stadium and fans will be more hype than they’ve ever been before. Some could call this their biggest home game ever.

-Vandy doesn’t have a great D, but you don’t need one v. AU- this year.
-AU will have to get more creative on O, as well as Vandy
-AU can’t give up more than 2 TD’s, if they do, they lose this one.

I pick Vandy, in a hard fought, hard nosed game!

Things are good Tom except this football season. I’m just taking this season as a bad joke

Good article – said it like it is…….

Hope the week off will do us good – get ready for Vandy.

Brad, I gotta tell you, since you started writing at the DJ for the MSU beat, I have made sure that your post/article is the first thing I look at each day. You are doing a great job and we really appreciate it!!

  17. dc31 Says:

Vandy has definitely won their last game of the season
    4-8 Mark it down
    STATE on road
    Georgia on road
    Kentucky on road

  18. spaceghost1 Says:

Good article Brad. Very insightful and thought-provoking.
I can’t see Vandy scoring more than 6 points against AU. Their offense is statistically worse than ours.

  19. dc31 Says:

Greg Byrne needs to start working right now and get us out of another “trap” game at Middle Tennessee in 09. It will not work, going to a smaller school’s home turf for their Super Bowl. Buy them out

  20. carwwest Says:

i hear ya dc but is that possible this late??….in other news, does anybody read the article on bulldog blitz??….crxxm said this was our best game in all three phases and that our kicking game was excellent…how many penalties did we have in special teams, 3 or 4?? and i think 2 of them were 15 yarders…and what about that nice pooch punt for like -1 yard or something??…. this just proves that crxxm is an idiot…we did play better but to call the kicking game excellent basically because you didnt give up a TD is dumb…BTW MSTU is losing to florida atlantic right now in the 3rd quarter 10-0….we might actually have a chance against them…(just knocked on wood)…haha

    BL –

Your “strongly worded column” is absolutely right on the money. Thank you for writing it. This is exactly what needs to be said. I am frustrated (as everyone is) that Croom would expect 100% out of his players in effort and belief in his plan, but not give his players 100% of his belief in them. And part of his 100% should include getting rid of anything that doesn’t make the team better (like a horrible offensive system).
