Franklin Gets Croomed?

The Birmingham News reports that Auburn offensive coordinator Tony Franklin has been fired. Can we say he got “Croomed,” since MSU kept his offense out of the end zone? Certainly that contributed to it, especially after Tommy Tuberville saw the Bulldogs give up 72 points and nearly 1,000 yards of offense the last two games. Still, seems a bit premature.

Not Croomed. Fired due to lack of performance. Unlike some other OC’s that I know of.

  2. maroon1white Says:

Hey Auburn we have the perfect guy for your OC we’ll be happy to send him right over to you.

  3. Jimmy Barbee Says:

I guessed that Auburn OC was short termed. Really hope Miss State holds on the Coach Croom tho.

  4. Says:

Now there’s a concept to ponder! Firing highly paid coordinators who aren’t getting the job done. Auburn allows half a season, MSU allows 5 years. Go figure.

  5. carwwest Says:

why did they fire him!?!?!?…i dont understand…he has done the same thing wxxdy has been doing for 5 years!!!

  6. themaroonandwhite Says:

I’m all for sticking with a guy…I hate when schools fire coaches prematurely. But, McCorvey has been given a fair shot. He needs to go as well as this offense. I want Croom to stay but if he can’t see this then maybe he has to go too.

i knew this wasnt gonna work for the aubies, but i never expected them to pull the plug so soon…

  8. ericintupelo Says:

Wouldn’t say Croomed, but maybe we could learn from Auburn and get rid of our coordinator. Might come as a shock and I will state this later when Brad asks for predictions but I think we will beat Vandy. They’re riding high and possibly too confident against us. We will beat them in a close ballgame

Compared to how fast MSU moves to correct a coaching problem, I would agree.

Franklin never had a chance because Tuberville never gave him one. He could never bring himself to fully commit to the Mumme/Leach system, which is what Franklin runs.

Hey coach Croom it looks like one coach in the west has a pair! I know that you don’t like to play follow the leader or even do what is right sometimes…but please take a cue from Tubby and listen to your critics, make it two fired OCs this week!

  12. db33 Says:

The question I have is how similar are these situations? Does Woody want to run one offense, but Croom won’t let him? I highly doubt it, because no way that would last this long.

But, Auburn was totally different. Franklin was handcuffed and in retrospect, never should’ve even been hired if he wasn’t going to be allowed to do his job. Read this from the link I gave above:

“I’m not ready to blame Tommy Tuberville; he’s an extremely smart guy and coach. But I do wonder: why in the world would you bring a guy in who knows one system extremely well but one system only, and then not run what he knows? And even if the pressure was on from the AD or the boosters to go spread, why not pick a twig off the Rich Rodriguez or “running-spread” tree? Instead, they picked a guy whose background was in a pass-first spread, and then they shelve the passing concepts. It really boggles my mind.”

GO FIGURE……mid season – can Tub turn it around – who is going to take over as OC….Tub?

I could be mistaken but Tub did change his offense sceme from WC to the spread, correct?

Question – why did he do away with the WC? Aburn seem to have the talent (last year anway) to run it?

  14. mathistondawg Says:

I think Franklin is one heckuva coach, and severn games into a tenure isn’t enough time. I think tubby needed an excuse for the beating he will take vs bama this year. I say we give ol’ Franklin a shot here. Could it hurt?

  15. olemiss1581 Says:

whatever yall do, dont fire croom. we want yall to keep giving him contract extensions!!!!!

  17. msudawginbama Says:

Tubs/Jughead/Mr. Potatohead is to blame for this… Franklin made his “system” work @ Troy b/c Blakeney didnt micromanage his offense… that and they had an effective QB in Haugabook.

  18. bantyrooster1 Says:

Wow. That goes to show you the difference between our program and Auburn’s. Think about it. Their OC gets half a season to prove his system will work at Auburn. Our OC is into his 5th year of proving his and Croom’s system doesn’t work. How in the heck does a man keep his freaking job this long with the lack of progress we’ve seen? Auburn expects to win and by firing the OC in the middle of the season they’re proving it to their fan base. As we continue to sputter along, our program’s leader, The Walrus, tells us that he won’t change his offense, even though it’s obvious to everyone else that it sucks! We’ve got 1 win this year and we’re sticking to the plan. Auburn is 4-2 and that’s not good enough for them. Big difference in saying you want to win and doing something about it. All we can do is talk while Auburn walks the walk.

  19. olemiss1581 Says:

AAAAAAAAAAAAA MEN!!!!! but we dont want you guys to fire anybody, it will come through someday! haha go state! go state!

  20. imabulldog Says:

    ha ha! LOL! šŸ™‚ šŸ˜‰ šŸ™‚ ha!

    – what an idiot.

So biased and stupid, you can’t even see your own season going down the drain. A win against an overranked and uninterested FL team, and all of a sudden Archie Manning comes down and gives the keys of heaven to Nutt.

By what means is UM so much better than us, really? You getting ready to be below 500, just as we start to pull ourselves out of that hole.

  21. olemiss1581 Says:

we will win the golden egg by 3 touchdowns, just tell me what you wanna put on it

  22. thingreenline Says:

I’ll put up $30, and you can put your mom’s lubed [patookus] on it. I hear it’s quite nice.

  23. skydawg706 Says:

I thought TUB said the night before he had to plans to fire Franklin…..with the lies he tells….must be getting ready to run for political office.
