by

Because I said it’s official, dangit. Man, that Commodores mascot has got some sweet sideburns. Not exactly a packed house, yet. Got some stragglers out there.

Vandy is kicking off. Here we go.

  1. Brad Locke Says:

Good, solid opening drive, but nothing spectacular. 3-0 MSU.

  2. Brad Locke Says:

Well, except for Dixon’s run. That was nice.

  3. morecowbell Says:

Man glad we scored, but missed opportunity. Croom is right about discipline that penalty killed the drive.

  4. morecowbell Says:

That penalty is reminiscent of the La Tech game.

  5. Brad Locke Says:

    Nickson starting after all.

  6. Brad Locke Says:

End 1st quarter: 3-0 MSU. My thoughts:
    • Is that quick swing pass all MSU knows how to do on first and second down?
    • Dixon’s getting some good holes to run through. That is a very, very good sign.
    • The Bulldog defense is playing well, but Vandy always starts slow on offense.

  7. morecowbell Says:

Play is still sloppy with penalties.

  8. Brad Locke Says:

Wow, McAdams killed that one. A 4-yard punt. You see that in, like, high school.

  9. darkcooger Says:

What kind of crappy high school kickers get 4-yard punts?

  10. rwriffe Says:

having to watch live stats. What’s the deal with a four yard punt. Blocked?

  11. darkcooger Says:

rwriffe: See if you can watch the game on ESPN360. I’m getting it from there. I think if you have AT&T or Verizon broadband, you can watch it. As for the kick, it went sideways instead of forward.

  12. morecowbell Says:

    what is pegues doing?

  13. morecowbell Says:

I would say play action to mcrae streaking down the field, but lee may run out of the endzone and then have a 3-2 game, but what are the odds….

  14. morecowbell Says:

Texas leading Sooners 45-35 with 45 seconds left.

  15. Brad Locke Says:

As far as returning kicks, Pegues ain’t doing anything. Secondary is playing well, though.

  16. Brad Locke Says:

McAdams, good gosh. Almost a safety on the previous play, and then a booming 16-yard punt.

  17. Brad Locke Says:

    Huge, dumb penalty by O’Quinn.

  18. Brad Locke Says:

Nice reach by Nickson for the TD. 7-3 Vandy, 19 seconds left in the half. Hard to blame the defense for that one.

  19. rwriffe Says:

My 5 year old nephew could kick better than Mcadams. Anybody could kick it better than Mcadams. Why not let someone else try?

  20. darkcooger Says:

At least Croom didn’t run out the half.

  21. Brad Locke Says:

    Halftime thoughts:
    • Adam McRae has kicked himself off the Ray Guy Award watch list.
    • MSU’s run blocking is good, pass blocking not so much.
    • Tyson Lee has made some bad, bad throws. But that mobility sure has come in handy.
    • Both secondaries are playing well.

    Stats forthcoming.

  22. Brad Locke Says:

Biggest stat for State: no turnovers committed.

    Halftime stats:
    1st downs: Vandy 3, MSU 9
    Rushes-Yards: Vandy 17-37, MSU 23-98
Passing Yards: Vandy 6, MSU 37
Total yards: Vandy 43, MSU 135

    MSU stats:
    RB Anthony Dixon: 12-75
QB Tyson Lee: 6-12-0, 37 yards, sacked twice
    P Blake McAdams: 4 punts, 22.2 avg.

    Vandy stats:
QB Chris Nickson: 11-7 rushing, sacked twice; 1-3-0, 6 yards passing
    SS Reshard Langford: 6 tackles
    LB Patrick Benoist: 6 tackles

  23. therickmister Says:

Want to know how bad our offense is or has been under Croom? Check this out.

    http://blog.al.com/solomon/2008/10/auburns_points_per_possession.html

What other coach in college football would be allowed to keep his job after this type of performance for this many years? Its time for a change.

  24. therickmister Says:

maybe the team read my last post and decided to move the ball.

  25. Brad Locke Says:

Nice throw by Lee on the 4-yard TD to Brandon Henderson. 10-7 MSU with 8:09 to go in the third.

  26. darkcooger Says:

I know some of you guys don’t like Lee because he’s too short, but I love that he can run. After that yard-short dive at LaTech, it’s good to see him stepping up and taking the hits. Go Dawgs!

  27. Brad Locke Says:

Co-Eric, what are you thinking? Just shoved the guy to the ground in front of everyone. Probably killed a great-looking drive.

  28. therickmister Says:

I mean really… Why? Just when I was feeling good about the momentum, Co-Idiot does something like that.

  29. Brad Locke Says:

End 3rd quarter, 10-7 MSU. Thoughts:
    • The Tyson Lee scramble play seems the best thing MSU’s offense has going.
    • Too many dumb mistakes by State.
    • Any of you got a feeling Vandy is about to break off a big play? It’s overdue.

  30. darkcooger Says:

I’m amazed and thrilled that the Dawgs are outproduced Vandy on offense 4-to-1. Never thought I’d see such a thing.

  31. therickmister Says:

Wow, I was about to talk more about Co-Idiot and then Jack goes “Interception Demont Glanton!”. WOOT!

  32. darkcooger Says:

YES! That’s what I’ve been wanting to see all day! There’s that famous Mississippi State defense!

  33. Brad Locke Says:

TD Christian Ducre, State up 17-7 with 13:27 to go. Well done.

  34. darkcooger Says:

Now if the defense can stay on top of their game, we can finally wrap one in Maroon and White! And if there’s anything about Bulldog football to have faith in, it’s defense!

  35. Brad Locke Says:

Vandy had 52 total yards through three quarters. It covered 57 on that drive. 17-14 State, 8:16 left.

  36. ericintupelo Says:

I know we’ve never been respected by ESPN but they just did a live look in on ESPNEWS and they were just talking about how pathetic our offense is and the fact that we prolly won’t score anymore. I predicted us to win this game and a scoring drive would be nice here. Go dogs

  37. lollipopkid Says:

Vandy is the only offense worse than ours. But I’ve got no faith that we’ll stop them here…

  38. ericintupelo Says:

    Good stop boys! Good Stop!

  39. morecowbell Says:

final drive down the throats finish them off.

  40. lollipopkid Says:

two consecutive 3rd down passes, that’s almost 2 minutes we could’ve bled off the clock…

  41. therickmister Says:

yeah right.. Croom does not know how to “finish off” on offense. Lets finish the off on Defense though!

  42. therickmister Says:

    INT!!!!!!!!!

  43. darkcooger Says:

That famous defense steps up again! Way to go Dawgs!

  44. darkcooger Says:

    Hail, dear old State!
    Fight for that victory today.
Hit the line and tote the ball,
Cross the goal before you fall!
    And then we’ll yell,
    Yell, yell, yell!
    For dear old State,
    We’ll yell like hell!
    Fight for Mississippi State,
    Win the game today!

  45. tupelobizbuzz Says:

Gotta hand it to the Dogs today – great job. Way to start the 7-game season – here’s hoping for a few more.

  46. bulldog22 Says:

    Way to go Bulldogs!!

  47. dawgface52 Says:

Good to get a win. There already talking bowl possibilities on Gene’s page. Funny. But I hope this does give us some confidence to get a few more wins.

  48. morecowbell Says:

Should be 4-2 instead of the opposite, but the past is gone. Good win. Will be in attendance next week to see in person. Should be a good game regardless of the outcome.

  49. thespear Says:

Great game, Tyson proved his mobility and defense stood TALL

  50. skydawg706 Says:

Defense was assume to me – total domination – wished offense (line) would step up.

Like to have seen Tyson tuck and ran the ball sooner.

Believe State could win at TN is they wanted to…..got the defense if the play TN like they plaed LSU and Vandy. Offense needs to get’er done.

  51. mathistondawg Says:

Wins for us will be hard to come by looking at our upcoming schedule. I will say we should have played this good in the past on “D”, however our “O” still needs work.

We still can’t pass effectively – this will be critical in the games to come. Did anyone notice the next to last Vandy drive the receiver that got behind our secondary on second down? He was wide open and the throw missed him. I held my breath as the pass was thrown poorly.

  52. skydawg706 Says:

Morecowbell – shout loud for the rest of us and ring that cowbell.

My son and his wife students at Carson-Newman (Jefferson City, TN) will be there also.

State has the potential to beat TN…
