Rick Stockstill Says …

Middle Tennessee State coach Rick Stockstill addressed us media folks a moment ago. Some choice cuts:

• On playing a BCS school for a second straight week: “We don’t look at it that way, as a chance to pull off an upset. To me we’re playing another good football team from, in my opinion, the best conference in college football. … We just don’t approach it that way, ‘Here’s a chance to upset a team from the SEC or the Big East or the ACC.’ We know it’s a huge challenge. If we were fortunate enough to win, it is an upset. They’re better than us, they’ve been doing it a lot longer than us. We’re excited to play the game, but we worry more about ourselves than who we’re playing.”

• On building his program, which has taken a scholarship hit due to its low APR: “We’re not playing a whole bunch of people because we don’t have that many bodies to choose from right now. Once we get up to 85 scholarships, my goal is to always be the best we can be. If it’s 12-0, 10-2, 8-4, whatever the best we can be, that’s what I want to do. We can do a lot of great things here. We’ve been competitive in these type games, we’ve been competitive in all our Sun Belt games over the last two-and-a-half years. We’re building a program here that in time can compete for conference championship on a regular basis.”

• On MSU QB Tyson Lee: “I think it’s like anything when you play young people, there’s growing pains that you go through. They’ve got some young quarterbacks they’re having to play, and that limits what you can do offensively. ”

• On his defense: “Defensively, this week, we can’t give up the big play. We’ve got to make them keep snapping the ball. We’ve done a pretty good job of that for the most part on defense this year.”

Stockstill comment on Tyson – Tyson played jr. college level – he has time behind the center – he is not a rookie out of highschool – understand he had good passing stats at ICC – what’s up?
