Quite a few empty seats here at Davis Wade Stadium just before kickoff. Any guesses on what the announced attendance will be?
The new video board is coming together nicely. Supposed to be ready by next Saturday. We shall see.
Today’s MSU captains are QB Tyson Lee, LB Dominic Douglas and backup FS/special teamer Zach Smith. MTSU wins the toss, defers to second half, MSU will receive and move right to left from my vantage point. Game on!
October 25, 2008 at 6:08 pm |
Guess Arceto Clark is your “mystery” player.
October 25, 2008 at 6:13 pm |
Dixon just tied Michael Davis for school career TD rushes (27).
October 25, 2008 at 6:31 pm |
And now Dixon moves ahead of Davis with a 62-yard dash. 14-3 with 6:13 left in the first.
October 25, 2008 at 6:31 pm |
14 points in the first quarter? Go Dawgs!
October 25, 2008 at 6:47 pm |
To the second quarter, 14-3 MSU but with Middle Tennessee threatening. Dixon’s 62-yard TD run was the Bulldogs’ longest scoring play of the year, with 48 yards to spare.
October 25, 2008 at 6:50 pm |
MSU can thank MTSU for that dumb decision. Fourth-and-goal at the 1-foot line, and they settle for a field goal. Pansies. 14-6, 14:16 mark of second.
October 25, 2008 at 6:57 pm |
I wish I was watching this game. The live stats page is not nearly as exciting… Ah well, the commentary here looks like it may be more interesting (pansies, eh?).
Where’s everybody else?
October 25, 2008 at 7:10 pm |
Maybe this is why MTSU didn’t feel like they needed to go for the touchdown earlier? 😛
October 25, 2008 at 7:11 pm |
14-13 now. Dogs defense needs to pull together and stop that passing game.
October 25, 2008 at 7:11 pm |
That Eldred King can catch a football. 14-13 after they decided not to go for two. Not a risk-taker, Rick Stockstill.
October 25, 2008 at 7:23 pm |
MSU’s pass blocking is just putrid.
October 25, 2008 at 7:24 pm |
I keep seeing QB hurries on the stats page. Do we even have an offensive line playing tonight?
October 25, 2008 at 7:27 pm |
That has been our problem all year. You can blame whomever you want, coaches or players, for our poor play this year, but it all boils down to our weakest position: Offensive line. You can’t win if you can block, no matter who your QB or coaches are…
October 25, 2008 at 7:30 pm |
*Should be “can’t block”…
October 25, 2008 at 7:31 pm |
14-13 at the half, MSU. My thoughts:
• As mentioned, the pass blocking is putrid.
• But Tyson Lee is scrambling well.
• Nice to see MSU hit TWO 20-plus-yard plays on that opening drive, and then finish the drive. And good running by Dixon, when he actually is given holes. Too many negative-yardage runs.
• Not sure why you’d burn Arceto Clark’s red-shirt for a 2-yard play. Better wear him out now. Stats forthcoming.
October 25, 2008 at 7:34 pm |
Homecoming court is being announced. I always hated homecoming in high school, because it meant longer halftimes. Funny to hear only one small portion of fans – sorority chicks – cheering when each person is introduced. Because seriously, what’s the point of this whole exercise?
October 25, 2008 at 7:37 pm |
Halftime stats:
Team
First downs: MTSU 7, MSU 8
Rushes-Yards: MTSU 15-35, MSU 19-106
Passing: MTSU 9-14-0, 132 yards; MSU 9-13-0, 99 yards
Total yards: MTSU 167, MSU 205
MSU Individual
QB Tyson Lee: 9-13-0, 99 yards, 0 TDs
RB Anthony Dixon: 12-80, 2 TDs
WR Aubrey Bell: 3-21
DE Sean Ferguson: 3 tackles, 1 TFL
MTSU Individual
QB Joe Craddock: 7-11-0, 99 yards, 1 TD
QB Dwight Dasher: 2-3-0, 33 yards, 0 TDs; 5-18 rushing
RB Phillip Tanner: 3-18
WR Eldred King: 5-94, 1 TD
October 25, 2008 at 7:38 pm |
There is no point. Homecoming courts are ridiculous. It is even more obvious when you look at voter turn-out for such events at MSU…Don’t have the numbers off hand, but maybe someone can find them in an old Reflector or something…
October 25, 2008 at 7:40 pm |
Thank goodness for our “mystery” player. What an idiot….
October 25, 2008 at 7:46 pm |
Middle Tennessee will receive the second-half kickoff.
October 25, 2008 at 7:49 pm |
Pulls the rs off for one end around that any wr, Delmon for example, could run.
We’ve done nothing since mid 1st qtr. They made adjustments, we didn’t. Typical crxxm/wxxdy.
October 25, 2008 at 7:50 pm |
Cheers for consistency? *sigh*
October 25, 2008 at 7:56 pm |
What did Croom do with Clark as the mystery man?
October 25, 2008 at 7:56 pm |
• Not sure why you’d burn Arceto Clark’s red-shirt for a 2-yard play.
Because Croom is an idiot. Word on the SixPack board is this is Woody’s last game. AU’s oc from last year, Borges, will take over. If true, a lot to look forward to. His last year at Auburn, they ranked 97th in total offense. 😦
October 25, 2008 at 7:59 pm |
I was guessing that the mystery man would be Pegues with the option package or at least as a slot reciever.
October 25, 2008 at 8:01 pm |
Borges’ system would not run smooth until the end of the season, but what is running smooth?
October 25, 2008 at 8:03 pm |
Tennesse is playing pretty tough with Bama down 10 and driving with 40 sec. left in half.
October 25, 2008 at 8:05 pm |
::sigh:: Come on, dawgs. Pull it together…
October 25, 2008 at 8:05 pm |
That drive covered 67 yards on 14 plays, took 4:58 off the clock. A 23-yard field goal by Alan Gendreau, 16-14 MTSU.
October 25, 2008 at 8:07 pm |
I retract my earlier statement about wishing I could watch this game. I may quit watching the stats, too.
October 25, 2008 at 8:07 pm |
What happened to the defense?
October 25, 2008 at 8:15 pm |
The defense is no where near as good as many people think it is. It’s taken a big step back, but it’s understandable since we lost our DC and two of our better defensive players to injury and gunfire.
October 25, 2008 at 8:20 pm |
I like Lee’s running ability. Touchdown Dawgs!
October 25, 2008 at 8:22 pm |
Nice answer by State, and how about those designed runs for Lee? That drive covered 69 yards in 12 plays, 5:12. 21-16 MSU with 4:30 left in third.
October 25, 2008 at 8:27 pm |
Hello again, Defense. Glad you decided to show up again…
October 25, 2008 at 8:28 pm |
Looking at the stats, looks like our kicking game is going a little better than normal tonight. Getting averaging 41.2 yards per punt. That’s better than 12.
October 25, 2008 at 8:28 pm |
Pegues got whacked good there.
October 25, 2008 at 8:32 pm |
Dixon seems to be playing hard tonight. What is his yardage (give or take) at the moment, Brad?
October 25, 2008 at 8:34 pm |
Nice FG by Carlson.
October 25, 2008 at 8:36 pm |
Now 24-16 after Adam Carlson’s 37-yard field goal with 22 seconds left in the third.
October 25, 2008 at 8:36 pm |
I think Dixon has 116 yards.
October 25, 2008 at 8:45 pm |
Has Arceto Clark seen any action since early in the game? I haven’t heard his name called although I may have missed it during a moment when I checked on TV game scores.
October 25, 2008 at 8:48 pm |
Third quarter stats:
• Total yards: MTSU 238, MSU 302
• Anthony Dixon: 21 carries for 116 yards, 2 TDs
• Tyson Lee: 13-19-0, 147 yards, 0 TDs
• Arnil Stallworth: 3 catches, 49 yards
October 25, 2008 at 8:49 pm |
I think Clark has seen the field two plays.
October 25, 2008 at 8:51 pm |
If Clark hasn’t been injured, please promise me, Brad, that you will ask at the Monday press conference why we would burn a redshirt year for such limited use.
October 25, 2008 at 8:52 pm |
Touchdown, Dawgs! 3-TDs for Dixon!
October 25, 2008 at 8:53 pm |
Brad, any word from Byrne if the new scoreboard will be ready by next week or not?
October 25, 2008 at 8:54 pm |
That could be a game-clincher there. Three TDs for Dixon, it’s 31-16 with 9:45 left.
October 25, 2008 at 8:54 pm |
got to credit Wxxdy for some great trick plays. Why Lee actually didn’t hand off on the zone read and ran it himself! For everyone else in America, that’s a standard play. For us it’s a trick play!
October 25, 2008 at 9:27 pm |
Well, even an ugly win to a backwoods nobody is a win. Go Dawgs! Also, this puts us on par for an average Croom season.
October 25, 2008 at 9:33 pm |
Well at least we won’t have double digit losses this year. 🙂
October 25, 2008 at 10:16 pm |
Good point, face! I would like to see a new HC options could be: Will Muschamp or Brian Stewart. I think either would be great. At least, an improvement.
October 25, 2008 at 10:23 pm |
Grover from Sesame Street would be an improvement.
October 25, 2008 at 10:30 pm |
HAHA yeah, you have a point, the way things are going my big toe could make better decisions.
October 25, 2008 at 10:41 pm |
crxxm deserves to be shot for taking the entire year away from clark like that…he talks about doing stuff “the right way”…well he totally f*&ked clark by doing that…i wouldnt have cared if we had won by 30, that is selfish and inexcusable….yes, we won but crxxm STILL deserves to be fired tomorrow and we should clean house…it was a one possession game and mtsu gave it to us at the end…call me negative all you want but we still do not show we are making improvements and crxm continues his run of being the dumbest piece of crap coach in america!!!
October 25, 2008 at 10:43 pm |
AMEN, carwwest. Crxxm is screwing up the present and future of State football!
October 25, 2008 at 11:26 pm |
Think this was a season-low for game thread comments. Apathy? Because there were barely 40,000 people here.
October 26, 2008 at 12:08 am |
BL:
I am afraid it is going to get worse before it gets better…?
October 26, 2008 at 9:04 am |
Not apathy, just pissed off at the stupid decisions our head coach makes.
October 26, 2008 at 12:01 pm |
We just have no more to say than Crxxm is an idiot!
October 26, 2008 at 3:03 pm |
Feel state got some lucky breaks for sure – saw few times MTSU had receviers wide open – thank the Lord the dropped them or over thrown.
Zone works good if you can put/keep pressure on the QB. Notice number 23 got burnt few times – QB looking somewhere else.
We keep talking about CC and Woody – how about the OL line coach – our OL needs to improve.
