MTSU-MSU Postgame

by

First, some quotes:

• Coach Sylvester Croom on burning Arceto Clark‘s redshirt: “I’m not worried about what’s happening four years from now. I’m going to let somebody else worry about that if that needs to be. I’m worried about winning a game today. Burning a redshirt, all I want to do is just win the game. We’re going to play him next week, we’re going to play him the week after that. What happens four or five years from now, I’m not concerned about it.”

• And furthermore: “My philosophy is to play guys that can help us win games. I talked to Nick Saban, I talked to other coaches about it, when you get real good athletes, hey, those guys might go into the (NFL) draft after their junior year, you never know.”

• Croom on the difference in the game: “We went out and executed. We made some good adjustments offensively as far as what we did to continue to drive the ball. We moved the ball extremely well offensively for the whole game except the second quarter.”

• Croom on QB Tyson Lee, who had 46 yards and a TD rushing: “I think his ability to make some runs off of the keeps early, I’m sure it surprised them, because they hadn’t seen him do that. We felt like the way people are playing us that we have to be able to do that, spread people out more than we’ve done.”

• WR Brandon McRae on Lee: “Tyson’s a playmaker. He always makes something happen when things break down. No play’s dead when Tyson’s there.”

• Lee on RB Arnil Stallworth (4 catches, 60 yards): “Arnil has great feet, he’s real fast, and he just makes plays. You get the balls to guys that are playmakers, and they’re able to do something with it, and Arnil’s been able to do that this year.”

• Offensive coordinator Woody McCorvey on Lee: “He had a lot more poise and composure. Even when at times protection broke down, he was able to get around and get rid of the football and didn’t take chances. He took what the defense gave him and gave us those opportunities to make some plays.”

• RB Anthony Dixon (27 carries, 126 yards, 3 TDs): “I feel like if I can have a night like tonight, we can win games.”

Some quick notes:

• Dixon now holds career school records for rushing touchdowns (29) and rushing attempts (596). FS/KR Derek Pegues became the SEC’s all-time leader in kickoff return yardage (2,321).

• CB Jasper O’Quinn tied a career high with nine tackles.

• MSU is now 3-0 against MTSU and 32-5-2 against current Sun Belt Conference teams.

Sean Ferguson started at left DE and had a career-high 3 tackles.

Some key stats:

• Total yards: MTSU 348, MSU 366

• Dixon: 27 carries, 126 yards, 3 TDs

• Lee: 17-25-0, 197 yards passing; 7-46, 1 TD rushing

• Stallworth: 4-60 receiving

• WR Aubrey Bell: 4-29

• 10 different Bulldogs caught passes.

• P Blake McAdams: 6 punts, 40.3-yard average.

• For MTSU, WR Eldred King was very impressive: 11 catches, 164 yards, 1 TD.

Croom is an idiot. Enough said. 😦

  2. OleBull Says:

I see that Mississippi State findly got into the winners bracket. Congrats!

  3. nextyeardawg Says:

I didn’t realize Pegues was the all time SEC leader in k/o return yardage. Congrats to him and Dixon for a job well done. The impressive thing is Dixon is only a JR. Next week against KY we need both of these guys to have big games.

  4. imabulldog Says:

    that’s right nextyr,

Uk has new Qb, loss their #1 RB and WR…

    We should beat em’

  5. rwriffe Says:

To me there was something very revealing in Croom’s comment. The fact that all of a sudden he’s not worried about 4 or 5 years from now. What does that say for our recruiting efforts? Tells me that he already knows that he’s not long for the MSU world. Basically he’s given up and we are in for a long, sad road in MSU football. They will have to force him out and the damage will affect this program for years to come. Looks like more of the same for years to come.

  6. darkcooger Says:

rwiffe: I noticed the same thing, but I wondered if the “let somebody else worry about that” wasn’t an accidental admission that he knows everyone wants him gone, and perhaps an accidental hint that he’s not planning on being around that long. I say accidental because it looks like he tries to cover it up with an “if” immediately thereafter.

I like how Woody said the O-line broke down “at times,” though judging by the number of QB hurries in the live stats and comments from the live game thread, the O-line broke down more than it held up.

  7. chrisfromcorinth Says:

It’s been a while guys but I”m still around. I thought the exact same thing when I read CC’s comment. But, I could also be a matter of he knows that there are some atheletes in the hole the need to develop and he finally decided to play Clark since he’s ready now. My problem is if he has been ready, why now? And I’m happy for DP and his record but if you think about it, he got it because we were getting kicked off to alot during his career. Which means a lot of points given up.

  8. 2thdoc Says:

I agree Chris, with Pegues it’s alot different than Moulds’ stats who led the nation in yards per return I believe one year.

  9. chrisfromcorinth Says:

Well if you think about it, there’s only three ways to return a kick off. Start of a half, safety, or give up points. We are MSU so which would it be. But We won last night, I agree with everybody last night that the HC court is a joke, and I’ve been blessed to be able to get some ribs, that are being bathed in hickory smoke for dinner.

  10. imabulldog Says:

I hope to see a lot more of Clark, he’s fast but- please use him more than twice, especially if we’re burning shirts

  11. carwwest Says:

the clark thing did me in…i will NEVER send another dime or waste gas driving 4 1/2 hours to all the games until the idiot selfish person who considers himelf a HC is gone…think about clark’s parents…if i were them i would either be in crxxm’s ear for a while or i would be asking the ncaa if there were anyway he could transfer without losing ANOTHER year for no f&^king reason!!!…i just cant get over that, my friend and i couldnt even enjoy the rest of the game after he put clark in…selfish azzhole..

i pray to god that his comment about leaving the future up to somebody else is a hint that he plans to resign or something at the end of the season because i guarantee you clark will not get anymore than around 2-3 touches a game from here on out…he is no longer helping our program and it is showing…

mtsu could have easily won that game…i said i would support the players but i cant even enjoy the game anymore with that effing idiot coaching us…so i will watch on tv and the computer but no more games for me…he can win 3 of the last 4 and i will not support him ever again because that means we should have won at worst 2-3 more games than we could have…i think we lose the rest of the games and byrne has to step in…if i cant hope for that then i will lose all hope…PLEASE BYRNE, IT IS PAST TIME!!!

  12. BirdZ! Says:

Croom has been all about the long term ever since he got there. Now he’s not worried about the future. Further proof that he doesn’t know what he is doing.

Just where is that “Plan” that he used to brag about having?

  13. chrisfromcorinth Says:

Come on guys. Let’s at least give him a chance to elaborate on the statement. I’m sure BL is gone do his job and ask for a clarification for us.

  14. skydawg706 Says:

I was looking for the “plan” all night, maybe CC did not have to go with the “plan”.

Personnaly, after seeing Derek make some moves, and his spped, I’d like to Pegues in the back field running the ball, and as a receiver.

Tyson look good on some of the scrambels – like to see what he could do of he had more time/better protection.

Do you guys feels it is so black & white when CC swaps out 24 & 29 in the back filed as single back. Like to see few plays with both of them in back field at the same time – mix it up.

  15. maroon1white Says:

it doesn’t matter who we put on O our opponent knows when we’re going to run and when we’re going to pass. Not to mention, since we don’t throw a pass longer than 10 yards they don’t have to worry about it. Did anybody notice we started trying to run out the clock with 14 minutes still left in the game. Your only up 15 and the other team has 3 timeouts and we run obvious hand offs for negative yards. PUT THE DAMN BALL IN THE ENDZONE!!!!

Kentucky is going to come in next week with a lot of anamosity I don’t see the O-line holding anything. Tyson better make sure his helmet is on tight. I hate not being happy after a freaking Win.

  16. cnd46 Says:

I am sorry but you people are taking this way to far. Last week, I read that some of you wont give MSU a dime until Coach Croom is fired. Fine, instead of acting like a two year old that cries when their toy is taken away, donate that money to the college that you attended at State or to the Library. As for the game, I am glad we won, none of you have said that and that makes me mad as heck. You bash every part of the team and then call for everyone’s head at the end. Not once have any of you bashed the idiot we have as basketball coach that can’t win past the second round. Now, I am not a basketball expert, but then none of you are football experts.

  17. thingreenline Says:

cnd46, I agree with your first three sentences. But your basketball comment is off. I complained all last season about Stans.

  18. osutrisha Says:

listen here all you little tinkerbell tats complaining about damn Croom, just be glad you dont have little nutty nutt the one that won’t sign tressels damn contract. One thing is for sure Croom is a great man with a great character and people like that don’t deserve to be bashed. I’ll be in damn oxford at the egg bowl with lloyd cheering my head off for MSU in spite of nutty nutt. cnd46 has a great point but then again most future buckeyes do

  19. Jimmy Barbee Says:

osutrisha, hope I have that right: osutrisha!! I really hope that you don’t have something too cheer you head off at that egg bowl in Oxford. We don’t want that head rolling around cluttering up our clean streets.

  20. rwriffe Says:

osutrisha, again I say that osu don’t want any of the SEC.

  21. rwriffe Says:

    doesn’t that is
