Kentucky-MSU: Official Game Thread

No TV, so if you ain’t here, tune in Mr. Cristil. UK won the toss and deferred to the second half, so State will receive. Today’s MSU captains are Dominic Douglas, Craig Jenkins and K.J. Wright. Game on.

you can watch on the internet on and espn360 is really slow and blurry.

  2. Brad Locke Says:

Lee to McRae, 29-yard TD on third-and-9. Nice use of Clark and Stallworth on that drive. 7-0 State, 7:10 mark

  3. nocowbell Says:

    nice throw and catch

  4. bgbulldog Says:

    well done

  5. jmbulldog Says:

You can listen to Jack from anywhere here…

Just click on listen and enjoy.

    GO STATE!!

  6. goldendawg Says:

was lee as good as his stats were on that drive? or is uk’s secondary just that bad?

  7. Brad Locke Says:

Tay Bowser sighting. Beat his man, but Lee overshot him.

  8. Brad Locke Says:

I don’t know, goldendawg. But Lee threw a nice ball to McRae on the TD. And McAdams just boomed a 72-yard punt. Where’s that been all year?

  9. bgbulldog Says:

72 yard punt thats a nice change

  10. jmbulldog Says:

    no cowbell,

How do you find the State game on

  11. Brad Locke Says:

End of first quarter, 7-0 MSU. Thoughts:

    • Mixing it up nicely by using Clark, Stallworth and others. In fact, Lee’s completed passes to five different receivers. And he’s hitting those third-down throws.
    • UK’s freshman QB, Randall Cobb, does not seem comfortable. Making high throws and hasn’t figured out when he needs to run the ball.
    • Blake McAdams: That’s more like it.

  12. darkcooger Says:

That kick was impressive. It was nice to hear the crowd cheer a kick for a change. 😛

  13. Brad Locke Says:

Mike Hartline at QB for Kentucky.

  14. Brad Locke Says:

Raise your hand if you didn’t think Dixon was getting the ball on that 4th-and-1. He’s the one guy who hasn’t done jack squat today for State.

  15. darkcooger Says:

Really stupid 4th down play call. Seriously. I knew they were going to do it and I don’t know much about football. If I knew it, I’m damn sure the UK defense knew it. When is Woody announcing his resignation?

  16. bgbulldog Says:

everyone in the stadium knew that was coming

  17. nocowbell Says:

two passes that stop the clock?

  18. nocowbell Says:

i click on one of the links at the top that was titled “college football” it wasn’t the best viewing.

  19. nocowbell Says:

has MSU had a penalty against them besides the kickoff that went OB?

  20. Brad Locke Says:

Halftime: 7-0 MSU. My question: How is it only 7-0? Thoughts:

    • Good job by the defense, especially buckling down on that last drive. Monster hit by Zach Smith to break up that pass inside the 10. But Hartline seems to have given UK a spark.
    • I like what State is doing on offense, except for Dixon. He’s not exactly getting gaping holes to run through.
    • Blake McAdams is helping State win the field position game.

  21. darkcooger Says:

nocowbell: I think we had a pass interference penalty, but I wasn’t really paying attention. I heard the words, anyway.

  22. Brad Locke Says:

    Halftime stats:

    • First downs: UK 7, MSU 7 (was 5-1 MSU after 1st quarter)
    • Rushes-Yds: UK 13-24, MSU 14-12
    • Passing: UK 10-19-0, 108 yards; MSU 14-19-0, 146 yards, 1 TD
    • Total plays-yards: UK 32-132, MSU 33-158
    • Penalties: UK 3-20, MSU 1-15

    • QB Tyson Lee: 14-19-0, 146 yards, 1 TD
    • RB Anthony Dixon: 8-3
    • RB Arnil Stallworth: 5-50 receiving
    • P Blake McAdams: 4-48.2, long of 72

    • QB Mike Hartline: 8-15-0, 83 yards
    • RB Tony Dixon: 3-8
    • WR Randall Cobb 3-33

  23. Brad Locke Says:

Well, Randall Cobb obviously got his head on straight at halftime. Directs a nine-play, 53-yard drive and scores himself from 5 yards to tie it at 7-7 with 11:08 left in the third quarter. Two big third-down conversions, aided by a Derek Pegues personal foul (late hit).

  24. bgbulldog Says:

Cristil sounds pissed from that flag

  25. Brad Locke Says:

Good call on the pass interference. Pegues clearly grabbed his jersey. And yet many fans here can’t see that even on that 111×47-foot video board.

  26. bgbulldog Says:

ha i guess people see what the want to see

  27. Brad Locke Says:

Big play by Cortez McCraney. Caused it, recovered it.

  28. rwriffe Says:

BL, I know this is just your job but after several weeks of keeping up with the blog sense you took over I am beginning to sense that you enjoy seeing the Bulldogs struggle. I don’t expect you to necessarily blow smoke up our butts but neither do I think comments like the one that followed “clearly grabbed his jersey” are necessary. But hey, like I said it’s just your job.

  29. Brad Locke Says:

End of third quarter, 14-7 UK. Thoughts:

    • Wildcats’ offensive line blowing open some big holes.
    • Cobb obviously looks great. Two drives, two TDs.
    • Defense finally made a play there at the end. Now, hit something downfield.
    • Dixon’s had one good run.

  30. rwriffe Says:

  31. dc31 Says:

Anybody know why Stallworth hasn’t played more? Anybody know why Clark is not getting the ball more? Anybody know when they are going to fire the special teams coach?

  32. Brad Locke Says:

Wow, that kick never got up, did it? That could come back to haunt the Bulldogs. 14-13 UK. Snapper Aaron Feld hurt.

  33. rwriffe Says:

Excessive celebration, our team is so poorly coached it is unimaginable.

  34. rwriffe Says:

And in my opinion you need to be in another field of work

  35. dc31 Says:

Pegues, Glanton, Fitzhugh all look sleep. They aren’t tackling worth anything

  36. darkcooger Says:

rwriffe – Agreed that the comment wasn’t necessary (the ball looked uncatchable to me anyway), but lighten up man, this is just a game. I think Brad’s doing a fine job. Have you considered that he gets frustrated about constantly having to write about what went wrong? How would you like being assigned to follow one of the worst teams in the country?

  37. rwriffe Says:

Hey, he enjoys it and I don’t have to like it. Just exspressing my opinion.

  38. dc31 Says:

We got what we deserved. Got the ball inside the 15 and Woody just wanted to be content with a field goal instead of calling plays for six

  39. rwriffe Says:

And again if it’s so tough covering this team then request a change. Also, I am being light about it.

  40. darkcooger Says:

Also, what’s up with booing Carlson for a missed field goal? I understand the disappointment and the frustration, but the kid has done a lot of good for us. It’s one thing to boo the regular 10-yard punts (though the kicks look like they’ve been a lot better the last couple of weeks or so), but to boo a kid for an irregular mistake?

Are we going to start booing Anthony Dixon every time he gets stopped, too?

  41. rebelgiant66 Says:

    yeah lighten up, rwriffe.
Brad IS doing a great job. He calls it like he sees it.

    Sounds like a huge board.
MSU must be trying to overcompensate for the product on the field.

  42. nocowbell Says:

Well, that call don’t matter when you can’t even kick a damn chip shot.

  43. nocowbell Says:

I am not booing anyone, but no sense in not blocking for a fg. just frustrating. not blaming anyone at all

  44. darkcooger Says:

rwriffe: If the banter is some friendly joking between you and Brad, then nevermind my earlier comment.

  45. nocowbell Says:

Brad, I would hate to have to cover MSU football even though your content has been easy to write this year… suck, suck, and more suck. And to be honest it has been that way the majority of my lifetime and the years before that, but I have never been as miserable watching this season. It would not bother me to drop football and put all that money into baseball and basketball at least they make a good effort.

  46. darkcooger Says:

That was an impressive effort by Lee. Bad snap, and then fires a fairly nice pass.

After all these low snaps this year, I have to ask: is our center a midget? Seriously.

  47. dc31 Says:

I like Croom but I see the light. They have the talent, but they don’t have a clue on how to use it. I’m tired of seeing them just go after one touchdown and then try to turn the game over to the Defense that has gotten pathetic all of a sudden. No pass rush, no cornerbacks, even the stars have packed it in. With any real o-coordinator, that game would have been over before halftime. No, they just want to get 1 touchdown and play D the rest of the game. Special teams has blown at least 3 games this year…UNSAT

  48. rwriffe Says:

Well, I guess my frustration is starting to be more than I can take. I know BL tells it like he sees it but some of the comments just sound to me like he enjoys seeing them struggle. Everyone (like me) wants him to shoot straight with us and if that is exactly what everyone expects then tell it just like it is and leave the sarcasm out. It’s easy to consider it just a job when it’s convenient.

Maybe I’m being unreasonable but hey, it is what it is and my comments are just my opinion.

  49. dawgface52 Says:

Well i thought we would win one more game last week. Wrong. 3-9 here we come. And worse than that, I’m afraid we will have another year of the big guy on the side lines. Oh well…..we are MSU. 🙂

  50. jmbulldog Says:

I like Croom too but the offense isn’t getting it done. So much potential and no results. Giving up only 14 points should get it done in the SEC. Woody has to go. I say we go after former UT assistant and Ok State OC Trooper Taylor. Ok State’s offense is tearing it up and he is a guy with great energy.

  51. theconquistador2 Says:

5 years and the W/L column is the same as it was in year 1. It’s time for a complete coaching staff overhaul. Enough is enough. We are not a good football team. There is enough talent on this team to beat LA Tech, to take the game Auburn was giving to us and to win today.

  52. dc31 Says:

I know Trooper Taylor from when I use to live in Knoxville, I don’t think he would leave OSU for us, unless someone ponied up about 80,000 more than he makes now…would be nice to have though. These turkeys didn’t even play Clark in the second half and he looks great with the ball. They played Delmon Robinson two plays. They have just pulled their heads out enough to play Stallworth who all of a sudden looks like Knowshon Moreno.

  53. dc31 Says:

I like Cheese as a secondary coach, but he’s not ready yet. Kentucky started running the same plays that Georgia Tech ran on us and it was all academic from there.

  54. imabulldog Says:

I’ve left few games as disappointed as I did today.

-you know you are better than a team when you create every opportunity possible for you to win a game. But…we didn’t.

I felt we coulda almost put the game in cruise control with a better 4th & 1 call, BUT thanks Wxxdy!

This one goes on the players tho, Bad D in the 3rd, missed field goals and blocks. BUT first blame goes to Wxxdys play call, then the players

  55. Brad Locke Says:

I never, ever have enjoyed covering a losing team. I don’t know any sports writer that would.

  56. Brad Locke Says:

    Well, maybe T.J. Simers.

  57. skydawg706 Says:

Best part of games was the Special Ops jumpers……

    No offenseive line…….

It appears we only have about 7-8 offensive plays (maybe less) that can be executed.

DC31 – I was wording same thing on Stallworth – why he was nto played more.

Brad Locke – I saw the jersey pull on the interference call – what I saw was with fingers and ball was over his head. Minor to me, and not being said because I a Dawg fan.

  58. bantyrooster1 Says:

The worst coaching job in the history of Mississippi State football. Croom MUST go. Hire anybody. Heck, I mean ANY living, breathing BODY over Croom. His football days as a HEAD COACH are over. He had his chance and anybody out there that thinks he deserves another year should go for a brain scan. WE are as low as we were when he first got here. Wasted 5 years.

  59. mathistondawg Says:

Brad, I am a big MSU supporter and enjoy your column. I think you are doing an awesome job. You have given credit when it was due, and pointed out the shortfalls. Keep up the good work.

  60. osutrisha Says:

listen here rebelgiant66 twat waffle biotch, tell your damn little nutty nutt to coach to sign tressels damn contract NOW!! before i make him at the egg bowl with lloyd

  61. thingreenline Says:

banty, I agree that Croom should go, but there is no way we are as low as when he first got here. We just have a coach that can’t coach. That is another stupid comment from you.

osutrisha – take that crap over to the actual UM site if you want to keep repeating yourself. Dumb bitch.

  62. bantyrooster1 Says:

Thingreenline, I disagree with you. I do believe we’re as low as we were then. We’re the worst team in the SEC. How can we go lower?

  63. thingreenline Says:

Yes, we are the worst team in the SEC. But, at least we aren’t getting blown out by South Carolina or demolished by a Georgia team that wasn’t as good as it is now. That stuff happened in Jackie’s last years. There’s a difference in being some-what competitive and just flat-out getting your butt handed to you game after game.

    But last is still last.

  64. rebelgiant66 Says:

WTH? Get a grip. Nice language though.
You need to lay off the yam yam, woman.

I dont understand WTH you are talking about. Try using English.

Now go back to your Mom’s basement and play with your star trek ‘action figures’. Loser.

  65. imabulldog Says:

    I’m confused…
