Bye Week Blog Bag

It’s an off week, which means no press conferences or anything, but considering the dire state of things with the football team, seems worth our time to have a Blog Bag this week. But feel free to toss in some baseball and basketball questions.

FYI, the Alabama game will be on TV, just not sure which channel or what time yet. We’ll find out Sunday if it’s CBS, ESPN or Raycom.

I have a column done for tomorrow. Might get a few folks worked up, but that’s OK. A tease: I basically predict an 0-3 finish.

By the way, what do y’all think of me posting an Election Day thread tomorrow? Heh, just keep it civil. And go vote!

Someone told me that in the event of a tornado to go to Scott field for shelter because it was unlikely there would be a touchdown there.

question to espn, cbs, raycom….WHY ON EARTH DO YOU WANT TO PUT THIS BLOW OUT ON TV??

question for crxxm….when do you plan to do the right thing and step aside as HC??

question to byrne….when are you going to fire crxxm??who are you look at to replace him??

another question to byrne….what are the future plans for the dawgzillatron?? i figure some stats will run along the bottom ribbon like it did saturday but are their any plans for the other 2 ribbons and is there going to be an actual scoreboard put up above it or something?? and when is the realistic date it should be completely done??

BL, i understand you really cant answer some of those but i figured you could try on the others….thanks…keep up the good work…

Mr. Locke, how dare you predict an 0-3 finish for these bulldogs after their impressive defeats of vanderbilt and southeastern louisiana state? Their losses have been to quality opponents such as La Tech, Tennessee, Auburn, and Kentucky. Tsk tsk tsk.

But seriously, I think you are doing a great job covering this not-so-great season.

    Go Dawgs!

Ask Crxxm how he would like his buyout. Would he preffer cash or check?

  5. bleedmaroon Says:

oh and bad idea on having an election feed. very bad idea. seems that around here when things drift away from sports it gets ugly real quick.

BL, I’ve heard members of the Central Mississippi alumni association saying Al Borges will be the OC in ’09. Do you or anybody know how true this could or could not be? I know he’s a WCO guy so that’s why I thought the talk could be true.

If anybody thinks Byrne will fire Croom this year don’t count on it. Woody will leave due to health and to help Croom appease the fans. Not to mention, ’09 will be the 1st year Croom has all his scholarships to work with. I’m pretty sure Croom has been reminding Byrne of that.

If you want him gone start buying Powerball tickets now and if you win donate the buyout that’s the only way its going to happen this year.

  7. maroon1white Says:

I agree, you shouldn’t mix Sport & State.

  8. bleedmaroon Says:

yeah crxxm will be the hc next year and i think wxxdy will step down bc of health reasons. Im not sure of the Borges hire, though it would be better than what i think will happen, promotion from within.

Now, the way I see it, we should easily win 3 games a year through non-conference scheduling. We dropped LA tech in favor of JSU next year, I guess cause we couldn’t beat them – maybe we need to drop GT and Houston and add valley and alcorn as well.

We are going to Middle Tenn next year – can you say “biggest win in Murfreesboro”, or headlines of “SEC school beaten in front of 14,500”.

Our schedule is even tougher next year, I only see three probable wins in 2009, five at best. At least give us a chance Crxxm by scheduling more pansies.

  10. mathistondawg Says:

Maybe we can be known as not only the first SEC school to play a predominantly Black school, or SWAC school, but the first to lose to one.

What is the deal with Adam Carlson man? Does this guy just kill in practice and choke in the game or does is just not that good all the way around? Not saying I could kick a 45 yrd field goal (or any field goal for that matter)…but dang it he should be able to! He is kicking for a D1, SEC school. I mean he is kicking knucklers on extra points (in the event that we actually score a TD). Just wondering. There has got to be a better option.

I have a thought…take every guy who actually made a field goal in the “punt/pass/kick” thing at halftime, take them to Davis Wade, crank the music, give them 10 kicks from different yardages. The guy who makes the most is our new kicker…just a thought.

nice article today, brad. I think you reflected the opinions of many MSU fans.

btw, you need to adjust the time on here.

  13. 2thdoc Says:

Good article Brad, please send a copy to Byrne everyday until the end of the season.

This morning, I wrote in Crxxm for President and Wxxdy for his VP. Definitely no more airstrikes to come and a severe cut in defense. Only in America can you make $1.7 M and ride in a golf cart all day.

  14. jonnychapps Says:

Hey, I guess you guys saw what happened to Phillip Fulmer at Tennessee yesterday? I think that was a little overboard for a coach that has done what he did for them, but, it makes you think about the mindset that sets good football programs apart from ours.

Tennessee is having a rough season and he’s gone (after 17 seasons and a national championship!). I believe this is why we will never be at the top of the SEC or any football program for that matter. It has to start at the very top, if things aren’t working out you make changes. How long has it been now? 1-2-3-(4)-5 seasons and we’re in the same place (in wins and ranking) as we were 5 years ago! If the higher ups can’t see that we need a change (BIG CHANGE) than we’re just wasting our breaths.

  15. deaddawg1 Says:

BL, your article is right on the mark. A little late, but what the heck? It’s a sad commentary on the state of MSU football, but it’s the truth. The question is ” what to do about it?”. The school administration has a difficult choice. First. it can stick it’s head in the sand and hope for the best. Or, it can recognize the resonsibility to the school, it’s supporters and the state of Mississippi by developing a plan of action to correct the present situation and pursue an immediate implementation. The choice is clear!!!!

Otherwise, we need to realize The SEC is not for us, even with all it’s money, and get into a league where we can, at least, be competitive. My suggestion would be somewhwere between jr. high and jr. college, take your pick.

It’s obvious my outlook is not optimistic, but taking a que from the political world, it’s time for change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. imabulldog Says:

    Jr211, the answer is NO!

I worked with the team when he first got there. All his kicks were 8-10 Ft off the ground, spinning sideways like a helicopter! He is Terrible. He’s blown 2 games this year, and I have no clue why he had a good yr last yr

  17. carwwest Says:

ima, since you worked with the team…is crxxm really the “motivator” the media makes him out to be??…i have heard from friends of players that he is not…

but BL, i have another blog bag question…how are robert elliot and jamar chaney doing with their injuries??…do you see chaney returning next season???

  18. truedog4 Says:

Here are two questions for John Cohen. What is one facet of the current team/state of the program that is stronger than you expected it to be at this stage? What is a facet that is weaker/hasn’t progressed as well as you believed it would?

  19. imabulldog Says:

I can tell you when I worked with the team he was an awesome motivator. He had multiple chances to put the focus on himself, but he didnt (Such as his 1st trip back to Bama).
Before and after games, he has great speeches.

I myself questioned how much ‘Dawg’ was in him, but I saw how exactly how much was at his first practice…

During our ‘nutcracker’ drills and tackling drills, I can remember him getting on his knees yelling in peoples faces “YOU GOTTA BLEED TO WEAR MAROON, YOU HAVE TO EARN THE RIGHT TO WEAR IT!!!”

The guy is great, he just doesnt show much fire outseide the locker room or practice fields. I don’t know why. Just Very HUMBLE guy.

Thats why I have so much faith in him, the guy wants to win, he just needs help from his staff, especially Off. and Special Teams
