Lazy Friday Links

by

Well, I’m certainly feeling lazy. Must be the off-week blues or something.

Speaking of the off-week, here is today’s notebook, led by football and what the team worked on this week. Also some stuff in there about cross country, basketball and ice hockey (no joke).

Don’t forget, since there’s no football game Saturday, you can go catch the MSU basketball team play an exhibition against Oklahoma City, which has won the last two NAIA Division I national titles. Check ’em out.

And, of course, gotta have something on this week’s big Bama-LSU game. I keep getting this nagging feeling that LSU will win, but I totally didn’t go with it and picked the Tide. Hope that doesn’t come back to haunt me. To the links!

• Here’s a fairly lengthy piece from The Birmingham News about Alabama coach Nick Saban returning to what is now hostile territory.

• The Mobile Press-Register informs us that Bama is preparing to face LSU freshman quarterback Jordan Jefferson.

• Perhaps the biggest news of the day comes via the Baton Rouge Advocate, which tells us that LSU mascot Mike the Tiger might be on the inactive list come Saturday. His handlers have had trouble coaxing him into his cage lately, and he’s missed the last two home games. He must have a different feeling about this game than I do.

    Hey Car,
I answered your question on the blog bag, just letting you know about my experiences with CC

thank ima, i wish i had your point of view though….i cant say i have lost faith in him cause i was never really a fan but this season is his fault, no one else’s….he still cant manage a ball game to save his life….

ima, i got another question, is it true that crxxm pretty much goes over wxxdy’s head calling the games on offense??…ive heard that from more than one person….

When I was there, he pretty much entrusted his men to do their individual jobs. He’d add his say-so, here and there as any head coach does.
I think thats where his experience on the NFL level is hurting him. At that level, everyone has earned their right to be there, and does their own job. But, Wxxdy has to be replaced-if CC has any shot of rebounding and being a winner once again.
He has done some bonehead things this yr, times when he shoulda took charge, maybe put Lee in vs Auby, called a Time out here and there, changed a 4 and 1 call from time to time 🙂
-But as far as overriding Wxxdy, I maybe saw it once or twice-and it was usually because he had a play in mind for a certain situation.

Go Ice Dawgs! Beat Loyola! Thanks for the hockey mention, Brad. Maybe if it works out well, in a few years we can start saying, “Well, there’s always hockey.” For now, there’s always basketball. Failing that, there’s always baseball.

Anyway, I know I’m not the only State fan that’s stoked about the Bama game next weekend. I mean, I’m terrified of what’s going to happen, but I’m also really excited. When was the last time Mississippi State met a #1-ranked Alabama? And what was the outcome? The outcome is etched into the sidewalk in front of Magruder Hall on campus.

I’m hoping for a Tide win against LSU this week. Maybe they’ll start looking towards Auburn and give us a chance for a three-peat. Hell, I’d be satisfied if they just didn’t score any offensive touchdowns. My expectations are low, but my hopes are high.

    Go Dawgs!
