Stat Report

by

Some random but interesting MSU and Alabama stats, with some comparisons:

Total offense: MSU 2,663 yards (295.9/game), opponents 2,663 yards (295.9/game). For real.

First downs: MSU 148, opponents 141, Alabama 192.

First half scoring: MSU 71, opponents 79; Alabama 212, opponents 40.

Fourth quarter scoring: Alabama 37, opponents 60.

Fourth down conversions: MSU opponents 8-8 (3-3 in fourth quarter), Alabama 6-6. Not a good combination for State.

Red zone scoring: MSU 19-29 (66%), Alabama 33-41 (80%).

Rushing yards per game: MSU 112.2, Alabama opponents 79.1.

Non-offensive touchdowns: Alabama 7 (1st in country), MSU 0 (tied for last).

Well looks like were in good shape for another victory over the Tide. 🙂

Wow. None of those stats are even close for MSU. Also, this doesn’t bode well for MSU either:
“It definitely gives us confidence because we beat them two years in a row,” said junior tailback Anthony Dixon, who has never lost to Alabama

Said senior free safety Derek Pegues: “It gives you confidence to know that you can play with them

    hmmm…who sounds overconfident?

i dont think it is overconfidence…i think it is somewhat “fake” confidence….i was taught a long time ago that college and pro athletes are coached to say the right things most of the time and i know that is the case with the crxxminator….the only way to really know if they have actual confidence going into this game is by the way they act and their demeanor, like how they say what they are saying, how the act when the press isnt around, how the talk to each other….

i am willing to bet the confidence level is nowhere near what it was going into the first couple games…i know from experience what it is like to go from a great season to a really really bad one and its hard on a player’s confidence and emotions…

i think the players are saying the right things and i hope they are confident and come to play like it but i know there has to be some players on the team with their heads down, i know people dont want to hear that but it is reality and these kids are only 18-21 years old….but i hope i am wrong and good luck to the players this week!!! i hate bama almost as much as ole miss….

I hope the players read this: I have confidence in them. We have a talented bunch of kids. When they click, they have the potential to be damn good. A better coaching staff would be doing really good things with the players we have. The potential to beat Bama is definitely there.

I just watched the last two game-minutes of the 1980 game on YouTube and even though I knew the outcome, I was still excited by it. Then I watched the last 30 seconds of the first half of last year’s game and I caught myself beating the couch and grinning from ear to ear on the interception in the end zone.

If I can get this fired up about a game that was 28 years ago and another one that I watched live on TV a year ago, then I see no reason not to get fired up for one that has not yet happened. Shouldn’t it be even more exciting, since I don’t already know what’s going to happen? Guys, I’m excited about this. I know we’ve got the talent to do it!

I gotta say it again, and probably several more times before Saturday night: GO DAWGS!

  5. carwwest Says:

cooger, you said it, we have the talent but not the coaching…i just cant get that excited about anything until crxxm is gone, even if it is #1 bama…

  6. biloxi13 Says:

Brad, I noticed in 4th quarter scoring you list Bummer 37 Opponents 60. What is it for State?

  7. imabulldog Says:

I havent called Bamaman an idiot today- so here it is…You my friend are an idiot 😉

  8. bamamanreturns Says:

That’s right biloxi, hope springs eternal…anyone got any tickets they want to sell?

  9. jcdawgman18 Says:

The guys are still confident in themselves, I see them around campus every day. They still believe that they are capable.

  10. biloxi13 Says:

That’s not hope you DUMBASS, that was just a question.

  11. bamamanreturns Says:

Sooo your saying there’s a Chance?!?!

  12. bamamanreturns Says:

Serious question. Will croom run the ball more or insist on putting the ball in the air

  13. biloxi13 Says:

He will have to throw it. John Puker won’t make the mistakes he’s made the past two years and the Turds probably cover 19 1/2.

  14. Brad Locke Says:

Biloxi 13: MSU has been outscored 58-43 in the fourth quarter.

  15. bamamanreturns Says:

    Doh!!
