Hoops & Harriers

Some non-football news. In basketball, MSU won its season opener over Centenary today, 77-55. Ravern Johnson led the Bulldogs with 15 points, all on 3-pointers. Barry Stewart added 13. Paul Jones will have the story for Sunday’s Journal.

And in cross country news, State’s Robert Scribner qualified for the NCAA National Championships with a strong run at the South Regionals. Says the official MSU release, “Scribner, who becomes the first MSU male runner to advance to the nationals, finished 13th overall in the 10K event with a time of 31:39.48. Adam Lenz finished second for the Bulldogs with a time of 32:13.10. Both Scribner and Lenz earned All-South Regional Honors.” MSU finished sixth as a team; the ladies finished 16th.

And in case you’re wondering, “harriers” is an old-school term for cross country runners.
